Fable
I know it doesnt come out until next week, but I was considering buying and Xbox solely for this game. Any feedback on whether it's as good as it looks and has been hyped up to be would be appreciated
, thanks.

Well, the amount of hype that was built on this game on forums of gamespot etc will never live up to what we come to expect.
It got a good rating.
I'll quote a few things on the important aspects of the game from the gamespot review.

Storyline
Gameplay and replayabilityFable's storyline, which is punctuated by an elegant sequence of paintings showing your hero's latest exploits, is mostly linear and starts slowly once you get past the childhood prologue. Past the halfway point, it actually becomes fairly involving, since its few key characters become relatively fleshed out. However, the hero himself remains silent during all the proceedings, and all the moral decisions you've made have little effect on what happens or how it happens.
there isn't necessarily a clear incentive to play through the entire game over from scratch once you've finished it the first time. Yet, however you choose to spend your time with the game, you should be able to squeeze a good 20 to 30 hours out of it when all is said and done.
Computer AI and diversity
Graphics and enviromentYou'll face a fairly diverse variety of foes during the course of the game, some of which will seem reasonably smart
Sound and MusicFable is excellent from a technical standpoint, featuring highly detailed visuals brought to life by soft, colorful ambient lighting, which gives the entire game an appropriately dreamlike, wispy look. Little details are everywhere, and character animations are nicely exaggerated, making the inhabitants of Fable appear larger than life. The game's various environments, which include your standard fantasy trappings like forests, swamps, caverns, and graveyards, are dense with color and little atmospheric touches. Weather effects look very real, and other effects for spells and such are also great. But the best-looking aspect of the game is certainly the hero himself and his gradual metamorphosis into whatever you're trying to turn him into.
Overall SummaryThe same is absolutely true of the audio, which is quite possibly the best part of the game. A beautiful classical-style orchestral score plays pleasantly throughout the game, changing its tone and mood effortlessly to fit each different type of setting and situation. Ambient sound effects match or even surpass the richness of the graphics. The game's voice acting (all of it is British) is of very high quality overall, and there's a ton of spoken dialogue to be heard. You'll occasionally hear some repeated lines as you wander through towns, and this is really the only strike against a game whose sound is amazingly well-done.
Beneath the surface, Fable is a well-put-together but standard action adventure, primarily consisting of lots of basic combat and running from point to point.
I have no sense of decency. This way , all my other senses are enhanced!

Yeah. I kind of got a rundown about it too on the xbox retail training site. 20 to 30 hours is kind of weak though. I have already put 15 or 20 hours into tales of symphonia and im not even on the second disc.. I will have to see, I am not buying the xbox for halo, because I just really don't care much for those kind of games, but I have seen a few others that seem cool too.

The 20 hours of gameplay has been stated as the minimum to finish the game if you know exactly how to do it and go straight from start to finish with no side quests at all. They have said that it contains over 100 hours of gameplay if you do all the side quests...not to mention that you can kill an hour just fishing.
This game was so well designed that it has games within the game. Fishing takes skill so as not to break your line...not much skill, but you don't just haul it in. I also found a card game last night that you can play for cash. BTW...I did spend a good 30 minutes catching fish last night. Played for about 4 and a half hours and don't feel like I have really even scratched the surface. So far, I have not even hit a hint of the real story line. I am guessing the average player will get 50ish hours or so of gameplay.
Xbox definitely has the games to make it worth owning...especially if you don't have any other console. Halo and Halo 2 in addition to Fable would make it worth the purchase alone. I think you can pick up pre-played Xbox for $100 now anyway.

XBox > PS2 no contest except for a few select games and the controller sometimes.
PS2 good points:
-FFX (if you like that sort of turn based role playing game, it's the best although this advantage weakens more every month with new games released)
-Easiest mod for copied games using Swap Magic disks
-The controller is nice. I like the top of the ontroller setup but have grown to like the triggers on the XBox controller especially with all the good racing games.
XBox good points:
-Best graphics. If you have a high definition display, XBox is your only choice and makes the games look outstanding. Even without HD, the XBox games look better.
-Endless mods. Crack open the case, stick a mod chip on the motherboard, and you don't even need a DVD burner, you can copy your games directly from your PC to the XBox hard drive via LAN or you can put in a new or rented XBox game into the existing XBox DVD player and copy it to hard drive with one click. Modding the XBox takes a few more brain cells than the PS2 so be sure to research it first.
-Easy to replace the 20MB HD with a 120-250GB HD to fit 30-60 games on the hard drive. Simple to add and delete games if you get tired of them or need room for newer ones.
-Halo/Halo2. Halo is the best FPS ever and Halo2 looks amazing which comes out in November. DOA/Team ninja games. Great graphics/gameplay from a japanese based company that cares about their product.
-Best online/multiplayer support with XBox live.(for legitimately purchased games)
-With a mod'd XBox and connection to your PC, you can make the XBox your home entertainment playing MP3s and Movies directly from your PC through your XBox and also play emulaters such as the Big Ass Emulator Disk series. #2 has 47,000 old console (Atari 2600, Intellivision etc etc) games on one DVD (installable onto your HD) another emulator has 300 Super Nintendo games all on one DVD (also installable)
Here's how I break it down:
BEST GAMES: TIE
BEST GRAPHICS: XBOX
MOD GEEK FACTOR: XBOX
CONTROLLERS: TIE (both have positives and negatives)

I really dont get where you get that Xbox has best games..I've owned both systems (PS2 got stolen and currently own Xbox) and from what I've experienced, PS2 games were much more fun. Depends on type of games I imagine. RPGs on the Xbox few and theres only so many racing and sports games one can play.

My points were the same in that thread save for maybe the comment about PS2 and XBox games looking the same via component cables...although that's only true if the game isn't capable of HD resolutions!
Name some besides FFX, Delayed GTA releases, and Champions of Norrath that are good that aren't on XBox.Siji wrote:I'd have to give that to PS2 as well. PS2 was around longer but recently the game distribution is much more even and some exclusive to Xbox only. Who really wants to play the original PS2 games that came out anyway? The latest generation of PS2 and XBox games are much more refined.

No point. What I find more enjoyable you might not. Ratchet & Clank 1 & 2 for example. I found those two games to be two of the best and most entertaining games. For others, they may be too Mario-ish. YMMV.Winnow wrote:Name some besides FFX, Delayed GTA releases, and Champions of Norrath that are good that aren't on XBox.

Games better on PS2? How about every RPG that comes out (CoN, BGDA1&2 etc.. != RPG). Only Xbox RPG that I can think of is KOTOR...and thats out in a better verison on PC...
Most platformers are better on PS2 as well. DMC, R&C, Jak and Daxter etc.. etc..
I've never found halo to be good, considering I have a PC and FPS on PC >>> consoles.
BUT, for utility Xbox owns the PS2. Media Center and emulators...mmmmmmmm. In most cases I'd rather play emulator games then ones out today that concentrate too much on graphics then gameplay.

Yeah, I'm not too big on halo. I have a PS2, although I play my gamecube more than it. And a lot of those games that are xbox only should come out for ps2 and gamecube as far as I am concerned.
And the whole thing like releasing it for xbox, then ps2 2 months later, then gamecube 2 months after that is bullshit.

I rented tis game a couple days ago, its pretty good, nothing amazing but pretty good. I would give it a good 8/10 and after 5 hours of gameplay or so, i feel like im pretty far into the game, it is discouraging when your character is already 27, scrawny and a virgin though

I have 14+ hours in and not pushing to finish it. I am working on owning as many stores and buildings as I can afford to buy....and have 6 of the 20 keys. I am guessing that to get all of the keys, all of the dolls, all of the treasure clues, etc etc that I am going to be way past 50 hours unless I use spoilers.
I haven't heard about the new Forgotten Realms game....but it looks like it will come ou when EQ 2 does....that should make that a much later purchase.
Also have head that they are working on more for Fable....next fall shoul see a second part.

I played this game a little yesterday. The first part seemed pretty scripted.
I did take the bribe from the guy that didn't want me to tell his wife that he was cheating on her and then I made some gold by telling her anyway. Muahaha!
I've only gotten just past buying the sister her present so I'm guessing that part was all mostly tutorial and why it seemed scripted.

I bought my xbox on friday morning got 5 games along with it. Fable being one of them but I still have yet to even take it out of the wrapping. Been too busy playing Halo and Star Wars: Battlefront.
I'll probably delve into Fable soon enough though.

I managed to get an unreal bow and finally found a "named" hammer. I am definitely edging towards the evil side and people cower in front of me and run away in one city. I have slaughtered 4 families and bought the houses to rent out in one whole section of town.
I highly recommend taking the Heal power as soon as feasible. It will be the only way you can heal a follower and in some quests you may need it.
If you are not minding a good sized evil hit, here is a spoiler on the bow...
