Online Car Insurance

Post by Akaran_D »

Anyone know some decent online car insurance quote sites?
Tried progressive, but they don't cover WV. Trying Geico, but I'd like two or three others to go with my phone research.

Thanks!

State Farm has online quotes I think. Maybe Allstate as well. But that's just a guess!

Been using them for two years, no complaints so far and excellent prices here.

Progressive does cover WV, but state laws prevent the company from providing the quotes online. The state wants Agents to be the #1 sale type.

Think I posted this before but DO NOT BUY INSURANCE FROM GEICO. If you have a claim of any sort they cheerfully pay it then drop you come next renewal period.

Progressive is good as is State Farm. Also if you are a current or former member of the armed services (or if a parent is) you should check out USAA.

I know it varies, but in minnesota progressive and geico are the two most expensive car insurance providers I have come across. I was with allstate for a while and only changed because I totalled 2 cars while with them. But I liked allstate a lot, and had no problems with them.

Funkmasterr: Call your insurance company (whichever it is now) and ask them to just quote what it would be without the two accidents...I am willing to bet you will see the premium drop dramatically.

edit: Just to clarify...you aren't calling to get a quote on a new policy, but just to get an idea of what the impact your accidents have on your premium with that company.

You didn't find Progressive and Geico expensive because they are expensive in general, they were expensive to YOU because you totaled 2 fucking cars!!! Learn to drive and I guarantee your insurance will go down...

This is a deja vu thread... I've called Geico on occassion and they always gave me a much higher quote than anyone else. And I don't have accidents on my record. I don't see how people claim to save money by switching to Geico but apparently someone is somewhere.

I've used Progressive for the past 7 years.

I think the cheap-factor of Geico's rates varies a lot from state to state. They were by far the cheapest when I lived in NY. Less than half the cost of my State Farm NY quote - who I'd had an account with for over 5 years with no claims.

When I moved to FL, I figured I'd stick with Geico, and they'd be really cheap since it's FL, and not NY. My quoted premium here was HIGHER than in NY. When I asked them why, they just said 'FL is prone to lots of immigrants who don't have a valid license or insurance, that's why it's so high.'

Hooray for Esurance!

Insurance companies vary greatly depending on many factors. In one city one company will be cheaper than another, and in another the city that same company will now be more expensive than the other. That's just the way it is. No matter where you live, don't go by what other people say who are in a different area than you are. When it comes to insurance you have to find out for yourself, not go by what other people say. Just call them all and compare the quotes. Be truthful with what you tell them, or expect a possible rate increase when they check your driving record. Aside from the obvious of having a clean record, if you are planning to switch insurance, be ready to show proof that you have been insured for at least a year. This is especially important if you have a company in which you renew every 6 months or so.

My personal experience, not to be used to influence your decision, down here in Miami I pay almost 3200 with Progressive with a 1000 deductible. Geico would have been over 6000 and State Farm would have been 1680 had the car be under my name and not a corporate lease. State Farm does not cover third party leases unless you are an officer of the company, so I can't use them. I'm married, with a child, have a home, my record is clean (well no points, 1 accident which I went to school for). The car is a BMW M3, hence the high deductible. As you can see there is a huge difference between insurance companies for the same car. It's just that for each one, different factors influence the amount they will charge you. I could go to another state and the prices would be completely different as far as who would be more expensive.

Geico wanted more per month for insurance than my car payment costs. And it's over $300.

I use 21st Century Insurance. http://www.i21.com I am not sure if they are in all states though. They have some competitive rates.

Edit:

Found out they are only in some states.
21st Century Insurance offers personal automobile, motorcycle, and umbrella insurance in California and automobile insurance in Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon and Washington. The company receives much of its new business through referrals from current policyholders; the average annual renewal rate of existing policyholders is over 93%.
