KY or Astroglide

KY or Astroglide
Is there a difference aside from cost? My doctor actually recommended the Astroglide and now I'm wondering why. Discuss!

Learned somthing the hard way.
Never use a condom on a pussy you plan on licking afterwards.
TrojanLube + All Natural Female Excretions + Latex + your tounge = absolute no chance of getting that taste out of your mouth for the next hour.

But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

little soldiers never had a chance....
anyway, Nimbrethil househould uses KY liquid, not the gel.
Currently using the KY Warming Liquid Lube, but after reading the ingredients I'm going to have to switch to something less toxic and potentially cancer inducing.
Ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Acacia Honey Type O, Methylparaben
Edit:
Ingredients of Astroglide: Purified Water, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Polyquaternium, Methylparaben, Propylparaben
At least the main ingredient is water in Astroglide, unlike KY which is petroleum based.

There's no petroleum in either of those ingredient lists. I saw a callout for the propylene glycol, but that's an alcohol (or rather, an alcohol derivative).Xyphir wrote:Currently using the KY Warming Liquid Lube, but after reading the ingredients I'm going to have to switch to something less toxic and potentially cancer inducing.

A quick litmus test for whether or not a lube is petroleum-based is to test whether or not it breaks down condoms. If a lube is "condom safe," then it's water-based.
edit> Don't forget, also, that glycerin is also an alcohol derivative that is very closely related to propylene glycol. In fact, when synthesizing one, you usually get some of the other in the mix, as well. Propylene glycol has a backbone of 3 carbons with two hydroxy groups attatched. Glycerine has 3 carbons and 3 hydroxy groups. They're both just in there to make it all slippy and good.

I would guess it's either one of two things:
1) The trick to the heating lies in the increased amount of propylene glycol. It's a very mild skin irritant, so that could account for the "heating" feeling. Also - though it's related to glycerine, the loss of a hydroxy group will change the characteristics quite a bit. Perhaps one of those characteristics accounts for the warming...
2) Propylene glycol can react to make aldehydes, ketones, and organic acids. The mix may be set up to produce a spontaneous exothermic reaction between the propylene glycol, perhaps the sugars in the honey, and some oil or compound frequently found in your skin.
I kinda favor the second guess, as there seems to be a big variance in the amount of warming people experience, and that could be determined by the concentration of reactants (what's in their skin). But those are just my two guesses, I have no real idea, and am not a professional chemist - I just took some advanced chem classes.

Astroglide is easier to clean up, KY still makes me feel I'm at the gyno's office.

Liquid Silk for me. I didn't like Astroglide, was a bit too sticky for me, so I felt gross.

I'm surprised to see someone else mention liquid silk, seeing as how it is both rather expensive and pretty new on the market. Simply put, there is nothing better. Nothing. Once you use it, you'll never go back. It cleans up very easily in a shower, does not stain clothes/leather/furniture, and it's really easy to clean off toys as well.
A dab will do ya, that's for sure!

heh, came free with a toy, I think Fair.
We've had this for about 6 months now I believe. The small bottle 6.5 or whatever it is.
I quickly tossed the bottle of astroglide after using Liquid silk once. Hubby even likes Liquid Silk better because "its not as slimey as Astroglide".
Tru if you were asking if I felt sticky after using liquid silk - No not so much. It can get sticky if you get really worked up going at it, but if you stop and then go again its fine.

If you're in a situation to be using a lubricant and you're thinking about it being sticky or not.. you must be married.
Single guys, in a position to be using lubricant, aren't thinking about whether it's sticky or not. They're thinking about the number of different places they could use said lubricant.
