Just what the world needs, another FPS game!

I was bored and got the beta and it looks nice. Nothing really to do with a beta by yourself though since there's no servers I could find anywhere. They released a demo though (500mb!) that's single player.
I see a predator game being made with this engine. Or at least a mod.
Movie with some of the engine features shown:

Anyone get this yet? For single player games it's a great experience. The MP is still buggy and not very varied. So if MP-only is your thing, this game probably isn't for you at this time.
AI, while pretty good in some places, still needs some work.
The non-mercenary enemies are just dumb. As in overpowered dumb. Two hits and you're dead.
Save option.. Big debate on this from both sides. There is no abilty to save from within the menu other than random save checkpoints scattered about. However, there's a supposed patch coming out to add that. In the meantime you can do \save_game form the console.
Also, if you have virtual drive software installed, such as Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120%, the game wont install. (Believe there's a hack out there to get around that.)
No complaints about the graphics and sound though. Dynamic sky would be nice but to be honest I don't really notice and it would just suck up more processing.
The engine potentially has a good future though. And the editor (Sandbox) looks to be one of the best out there. The user manual for that is 190 pages. So I'm thinking the mods will be many.
It's getting pretty good reviews despite the flaws mentioned above. If single player FPS games are your thing, may want to give it a look. However, it is a bit heavy on the system requirements to run at maximum settings.

hmm, it installed for me with daemon tools installed.
I really like it, but I don't like the non human enemies either. they're way too hard. still, its the best single player fps since half life.
I really like the different themes for the levels; from jungles and beaches to old WW2 bases to high tech labs. The physics engine is pretty nice too.

Yeah, the downloaded version doesn't have a problem with the virtual drive things. It's the actual retail one. That's why copy protection sucks. It only hurts their customers.kyoukan wrote:hmm, it installed for me with daemon tools installed.

Easiest way I've found for the non-mercs is shoot them in the noggin. I've found that to be the fastest way to dispatch them. Keep backing up if you can because once they get close enough that's when they jump. When that happens it's all over.
(Oh and points off for not offereing the DVD version in the US. Which means you get 5 CDs instead.)

Those damn mutants are pissing me off. Oh, and the "fat boys" forget it. A game on easy setting shouldn't be so damn hard. Obviously I suck at games like this which is why I chose easy to begin with! And they wonder why people want a save game feature or turn to trainers.

yeah I stopped playing it until they come out with the quick save patch. I don't like being a quick save whore, but I like replaying the same 10 minutes over and over again because some stupid monster spawned behind me and killed me in one hit w/ full health and armor even less.
At least I didn't pay for it.

Bring up console (`) and type \save_gamekyoukan wrote:yeah I stopped playing it until they come out with the quick save patch. Although sometimes that messes up and when it reloads you can't move.
Even with that though it's tough. I'm at a point now where there's 4 little ones and a big one. And they can jump up at me from two floors below.
Official quick save thingie supposed to come out in April.
Will try it a couple more times then it's trainer/cheat time!

Lost some of my enthusiam about this game. The 'trigen' storyline (man creates monster, monster tries to overthrow creators, etc) has been done to death. They could have left it with just the human element and you having to overthrow the the evil scientist and his henchmen. But then you'd have no critters with unlimited rockets who can take a rocket to the chest without dying. And in some places there are two-three of them...
I wanted to play it without the cheat but even on 'easy' it was just too hard. Also spending a lot of the levels indoors. I liked the outdoor levels more since you had opportunity for sneaking around. You can't really do that on the indoor levels.
If you dont mind overpowered monsters in a game, you'd probably have a good time.

i just beat this game and i can tell you this:
You think that the game is hard? get rdy for a swift asskicking in the volcano lvl. Its quite possibily one of the most difficult lvls i have ever played ina game ever and this game is quite possibly one of the hardest i have ever played (played on medium). I was quite dissappointed in the bosses and the scripted events, but seeing that this absolutly beautiful game came out of nowhere and was free
im willing to let those slide.
Hopefully some good multiplayer will come out of this.

I'll admit I went and got a cheat. I think I'm at the volcano level now but I haven't played it in a few days. It's not quite as fun when you cheat! Of course, games on 'Easy' should actually be easy.
As Doom3 and Half-Life 2 will be.Pretty standard fare IMO. The graphics are nice, as is the sound, but it's just same old - same old in every other department.
