Saw this trailer in front of the TCM remake... Dawn of the Dead is my all time favorite horror flick... the remake looks completely different than Romero's staggering zombies, but I bet it will be pretty good....always nice to see another's take on a classic! :D

March 19th. I will probably be hitting this one stag since my wife isn't a fan. Looks like a lot of fun from the previews on the SciFi channel.

I noticed that they are re-releasing the DVD on March 9th for the original. I just rented the VHS a couple weeks and it is still a good movie. The previews for the dvd show some really good reconditioning of the colors and film it looks like.

Looking forward to this but I'm not sure how I feel about how they changed the speed of the Dead, the lure of the movie (for me) is that there were a large number of the dead trying to eat you but there was a good chance you could survive because you were faster and could get away if you had enough bullets to make a path through the horde... If they are as fast as living people you can't even get far enough ahead of them to reload.....The trailers do look good though.l

I was considering going out and buying the original but what is this Super Version you are talking about? Does it have the main 3? Night, Dawn, and Day of the Dead? The originals?

Tune in to Final Destination TOMORROW at 8/7C, when USA presents a television first: the terrifying first 10 minutes of the upcoming motion picture Dawn of the Dead - uncut, uncensored, and before it hits theaters.
For those interested. I plan on checking it out.

Supposedly, the release later this year will have all 3 versions of Dawn of the Dead with all the special edition bonuses, etc.

Day of the Dead was released last year and Night of the Living Dead will be released at some point late this year or next year.

I bought the recently released 'Dawn' and am impressed with the quality. :)

I saw the ten minute preview of Dawn last night on USA. Really fast paced and looked like a fun movie. I am stoked to see it on Friday now. I just wish I hadn't been forced to sit through that shitty assed Final Destination movie.

Luckily, I did not have to suffer through that horrible movie as Mawafu dropped me an IM when it came on. I missed the first few minutes trying to find the correct channel, but was impressed with what I saw!

It certainly is not like Romero's film, but that is a good thing, as the original is about as perfect as you can get with a shoestring budget. :)

I am really looking forward to seeing this. :)

I bought the original Dawn of the Dead this week and just finished watching it. It was good. I loved the gore. I found myself feeling bad for the zombies when the gang showed up. It was really cool to see "Sex Machine" in the movie too. I can't imagine what the remake is going to be like. I am eager to see it.

I just need to get Day of the Dead now to complete my set.

I saw Mekhi Pfifer (?) on soem talk show discussing the movie and he said it wasn't that much like the original. There are similarities but he said this version is an old version on steroids. I will be seeing the first show at 5:10pm. Looking forward to it.

He also invented and provided all the zombie make-up. But for his best stuff you have to watch "Day of the Dead" which is the best of Romero's zombie trilogy.

**** SPOILERS AHEAD ****

I have a small problem with the details of the movie. At the beginning you see the Wisconsin state flag and the radio reports talk of the county of Milwaukee and surrounding counties. That is all well and good and even cool seeing as how I am from Wisconsin. The problem comes in when they plan their escape to an island. What island? Unless they are going to go up the entire length of Lake Michigan there aren't any islands out there.

It seems that they forgot where they were and transplanted California in Wisconsin. I mean come on, not a single Yupper accent in the bunch? When they having Andy shoot zombies were the zombies really Jay Leno and Burt Reynolds or were they just zombies that looked like them?

There are a few small islands in teh great lakes. Not many and they aren't that great though far as I know. Also once the lakes froxe over, the zombies would have several months to run across and eat your ass anyway.

The Jay Leno zombies were just look alikes. They were just doing it to show how good of a shot Andy was and to justify saving him later.

SPOILERS!!

Overall I liked the movie a lot. I definitely wouldn't call it a remake and I think they put too much action in it. I am also wondering why they didn't throw some gas bombs off the roof. The zombies were packed together so tight that they would have gone up like a forest fire. Looked like Andy had enough ammo to shoot a lot of them too. I think I would have made a fuckload of molotov cocktails since they had the gas tanks in the basement. Of course there were a hella lot of zombies but they could have thinned a lot of them out that way.

I would have thrown that one asshole off the roof really early. Not the redneck, the yuppie.

I would have left that stupid little bitch that went after the dog. One thing I don't miss about old horror flicks is the stupid defenseless female. Just annoys the hell out of me now.

I would have liked to see a few more people survive. Seems like Hollywood is really trying to kill everyone today.

Here is a thought. How long do you think it would take for the bodies to decomposs to the point of rendering them inactive? Granted in the original movies the dead came out of the graves for the most part before they started killing the others but in the remake it is more like a disease.

Dealing with exposure to the elements and such don't you think they would be mush piles in a matter of months?

But being buried is something different than being out in the blazing heat or the freezing cold. Not to mention the fact that if you are buried odd are you are also embalmed and will take more time to rot. You don't have the "Food for Worms" situation the way it used to be anymore.

I think they would rot faster but here is the next problem, disease. All those rotting bodies would be a haven for plague.

yeah but a body in a coffin has had its blood removed and replaced with embalming fluid which "fixes" the tissue.

real zombies (the ones in Haiti) actually aren't dead people. They were people who were poisoned with TTX (Tetrodotoxin - from the Fugu or pufferfish) and presumed dead, so buried. But they actually werent dead, and woke up in the coffin, suffered some brain damage from anoxia, but managed to escape (above ground graves in some areas).

The Great Lakes don't freeze!

I loved the movie. It was a load of fun. I was hoping the zombie baby would've jumped through that chick and gummed the guy to death or something. There was a lot of potential there that was wasted IMO.

I've not heard any review mention the music, which I thought it was one of the best parts of the film. The opening credits with Johnny Cash's "When The Man Comes Around" was awesome and haunting at the same time. Also, special props out to Richard Cheese's rendition of Disturbed's "The Sickness", which was kookie, fun, and fit perfectly with the flash forward of the people's relationships within the mall.

This definately makes my top zombie flick.

I finally got to the theater to see this.

First off, as I have said before--The original Dawn of the Dead is one of my all-time favorite movies.

Ok

With that said.... this was the best remake ever. From original film cameos to random 'salutes' to Romero (including the MUZAK). They pretty much followed the idea of the original films(trilogy) without seeming cheesy.

The gore was top-notch and the comedic moments(often gore) were fun. I absolutely LOVED the A-Teamesque ROLLINGDEATHMACHINES! From trepidation to elation, I want to see a remake of Day of the Dead now!

This is a must see for the Zombie flick fan! :D :D

Yeah, this is awesome. Very thrilling, very funny, and totally worth seeing if you like horror flicks. Its an instant classic. So many scenes in that movie are going to be remembered for a long time. The rich dude was hilarious, btw. I wanna know the title of that lounge song that plays when they are on the roof playing chess(or was it another roof scene?), that was fucking hilarious.

I went with my dad, who doesnt normaly watch horror movies at all, and I was worried he wouldnt like this. He came out grinning and his first words were. "That was great! that's one of the most entertaining movies Ive seen in a long time".

I highly reccomend that movie to anyone who isnt afraid of a little gore. If you have to close your eyes at any gory scenes in movies...hell still see it! :D

:/ Liked the original better. This one was plenty fun, but lacked some of the anti-commercialist underpinnings that were so great in Romero's original.

Though I liked this a good deal, I still have to say that I liked "28 Days Later" better as a modern take on the zombie genre. Of course it helped a lot that GYBE! did much of the soundtrack to that one.

Saw this one, great zombie flick, and I'm not a zombie flick kind of guy. It was 1000000x better than 28 Days Later which fell apart in the second half. I actually found myself "talking" to the movie, lol. "Just shoot her in the head, can't you see she's already dead!?!"

Make sure to watch the credits too!

Yea the superman speed kind of freaked me out. There is just something cool about slow shuffling zombies. Fast ones are a bit more scary to imagine.

What extra stuff was in the dvd? I torrented the movie but want to know if it is worth the buy on DVD.

They have a video diary of Andy from the time this all started to the time he died. It was pretty cool actually. They also follow a news anchorman as the events unfold. The anchorman is the guy who played the doctor on babylon V. There is more but I didn't watch it yet.
