An actual EQ question
What happens when you cast an unresistable spell on a critter that's immune to that type of spell? Might sound dumb, but I'm curious and can't test it right now.
I.E.: Casting a poison based spell on a mob that's immune to poison.

I believe your character file gets corrupted, deleted and VI sends Guido to break your legs.
Oh and they kill your dog.

"This spell will not take hold on this target" or my personal favorite "This creature is immunte to runspeed changes".
Those are some of the more popular ways for VI to let you know that you cannot effect a target with a particular spell or line of spells. However, if I cas spells on a MoB like, say, Uulmp the frog in SoNH, then all I get is resists, and no msg at all saying he's immune to my spells. Only lures hit the frog, btw. So, it's a crap shoot. Some have a msg, and others you need to figure out on your own.
On the bright side, the snare portion of the druid epic has been removed on Test Server as of 9/20/02.

No, they are not replacing it with anything. VI is doing OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of weird shit right now on test. The DG is alive with information as soon as it is discovered. The big news is in reguards to changes on the 8th shawl.
Removing the snare effect from the epic was one of the issues addressed in the druid petition several months ago. Don't want it, don't need it. Our epic will now only make one resist check, redce aggro, and work on runspeed immune mobs and Boss encounters. This also has larger applications should the DoT stacking changes go live. Snare effects do not stack. However, 3 druids all stacking thier epic DoT would be very, very nice indeed. Good times.

we were talking about it a little last night, and one person brought up the potential hope that the 15 debuff slot would be done away with for mobs.
i think that it is reasonable that as mobs get these stupid amounts of hps, an increase in the amount of debuffs, dots, whatever that can hold on them simultaneously is a good thing.

As far as i know, there aren't any mobs that are "immune" to posion, or magic, or anything else.
There are mobs that are immune to slow, and snare etc, and there are mobs that are so resistant to a certaint type of spell that they are basically immune, but i don't think there are any mobs that are flagged "immune to posion"
There are certain mobs that "cant be mezzed" but this is actaully something totally different, and not rellated to any other spells.

I read a post over on graffes speculating on an unresistable root, and was wondering what would happen to non-rootable mobs with it.
I would've asked over there, but they banned me a while back. Uptight buggers
Takeing the snare off the druid epic is nice for stacking purposes. I do like the snare/dot on exp grinds, just have to right click an earring before the epic now.
Makeing dictate and rapture unresistable doesn't seem to make a lot of difference unless they change the caps on them (not likely). From all I've seen/heard, the resist rate on both was already miniscule.

This is incorrect. There are actually quite a few. There's actually very few spells with no resist check (tash, malo, mala, occlusion)- dictate, lifetaps, rapture, etc all could get 'Your spell has been resisted' type messages if trying to cast on a magic immune mob.Colal wrote:As far as i know, there aren't any mobs that are "immune" to posion, or magic, or anything else.

For all practical purposes there are many mobs that are immune to magic etc because of their level of resistance, but I don't think that there are any mobs that are flagged immune to certain types of magic where you get an Immune message. Not really an issue though, because even if they aren't technically immune, they are so resistant that there is no point in trying to land a spell on them.
Feel free to post a screenshot though if I am wrong.
The only reason I bring it up is, I think that if they flagged a mob immune to magic, then mala/malo/oos wouldn't land.
its really a moot point though.

That's what brought up my questionColal wrote:The only reason I bring it up is, I think that if they flagged a mob immune to magic, then mala/malo/oos wouldn't land.

The whole tash series is flagged unresistable (as are malo and very few others). A level 1 chanter could land tash on a level 60 NPC (never tried it, should work though).
So mobs immune to <insert spell here> should be affected by an unresistable spell.

No, it isn't moot, and little things like understanding these can be critical to the success of raids. Understanding game mechanics, rather than having a vague idea of them, allows you much more options when running a raid. Just because they haven't implemented a, 'That target is immune to magic based spells' message certainly doesn't mean some mobs aren't flagged as untouchable by that spell type.Colal wrote:For all practical purposes there are many mobs that are immune to magic etc because of their level of resistance, but I don't think that there are any mobs that are flagged immune to certain types of magic where you get an Immune message. There are several spells flagged unresistable currently. Tash line, malo, mala, occlusion of sound, and mana sieve off the top of my head. Dictate and rapture are only resisted by mobs flagged immune to magic, currently. There is no special message for it. They simply 'Your dictate spell has been resisted' rather than being uncharmable. Likewise, take a truely immune mob like Lord Vyemm to magic. No matter how much you might debuff his magic resist, no magic spell will ever land on him. There is no random chance for it. With irresistable spells alone, you can debuff his MR by over 140 points, and it will not matter. Lifetaps will not land on him. There is never any mob that will resist dictate/rapture style spells that you can debuff them into not resisting. They are immune to a resist type, or they aren't.
Keep in mind, the messages are just that. Unfearable mobs just gave a resist message, the same with uncharmables. Unstunnables just ignored the component.
This change will be most noticeable with wizards in the _sub_ 60 game, as there are a lot of mobs with proximity resist/immunity. These are mobs with anti-exploit code that causes them to auto-resist any spell cast outside melee range. However, they need an actual resist check in order to do this. Tash, sieves, etc could all be cast outside range. Taps would be resisted. So with lures losing their resist check, wizards don't need to be standing right underneath the dragon or whatever in order to nuke it. Tunare will be more trivial, and various other encounters will be effected. Wizards that haven't bothered to do dragonsbane won't need to feel stupid being the only guy running up near the dragon.
