Made my way through the Freewarden (Defiance) initial questline with my mage. Not too shabby, despite difficulties with some mage builds (I hear that is being addressed). The public group option makes it pretty easy to get through some of the late teens quests.

Joined up with some of my friends in Troops of Doom, which is/was a raid guild in EQ2.

Tatas 18 Mage
Coho 18 Rogue

Graybriar/Defiance

...if anyone else is on that shard. Another work-friend ported over from WoW as well, so it is cool to know some folks to knock out some quests with. Looking forward to more group content, but I have not had a whole lot of time to sit down and play for stretches.

Need to remember to kill my EQ2 accounts.

Me too. My only problem is that I have a toon of each class on both factions, spread out over 3 servers.

I started with Mage, got frustrated and rolled a cleric (Sentinel/Inquisitor mostly) which I have got up to level 28 now.
After getting blowed up (1.3k blast charge OMG) multiple times by a badass saboteur in PVP, I must roll a rogue now!

level 26 shaman / druid for leveling. It is an all out dps build that depends on crits so I get some nice spikey damage and moderate survivability from justicar abilities that heal a % of my damage done + my druid pet who drops little heals on me.

I am on a pvp server, but only got my first kill last night.

Really enjoying the game and the rift dynamics make things very fresh for me so far.

I'm on a pvp server but for some reason I don't gank. There has been opportunities to do so but I didn't. Probably a bad thing as I have gotten ganked a few times. I don't understand the mentality of those who do. I can't understand what the motivation is for a level 50 to come down to a level 25 area and gank players. I mean, why even stealth when you can just walk up to them and one shot them? I've heard all the arguements and I know that I am on a pvp server and I expect this to happen. I just can't understand how people can find that fun.

People find that fun because they are douchebags that have inadequacies in real life that they are making people pay for in online games they play. I'll never play on a PVP server in a MMO again, I want PVP situations restricted to when I feel like doing them.

I think my guild (Troops of Doom) has 2 level 50s so far :)

As for me, I actually have been having a good time just running around Freemarch and collecting shinies to sell as well as doing rifts for the shards. Bought a horse and a few silk bags so want to continue on in the next zone and get that done with (about 50% done with Stonemarch I think). I'm not crazy about that zone, really.

Left mage at level 23 for now since I started to have a ton of fun with Saboteur/Bard/Ranger(ranger for pet only). I think I'll just try and get through Stonemarch as quickly as possible!

It is! That is why I have not switched back to Ranger/Marksman/Bladedancer (which is fun range/melee hybrid).

0 Points in Ranger just to get the pet that holds aggro well, most points in Sab for blowing shit up, and some points in Bard for slight healing ability and buffs.

can't wait to get more points!

How could anyone NOT like velios? this expac rocks. SF was way too easy, TSO was way to hard (for me beeing a new scrub) this one is perfect. You have to be good to succeed, but it isnt stupid hard. 6 max level toons now and i can play whatever i feel like at the moment. Come back to eq!

Good to hear rifts is doing well, hope it sticks around. Imma still play eq1 and 2 since they are free however =P

I'm actually struggling a bit with it. I think with the lack of nailed down classes I'm either having a hard time finding one that feels right to me, or I just can't decide because I'm wishy washy. Or a bit of both. Got a rogue up to 35? and a mage up to 23, and I have yet to find something comfortable. I think the thing that irks me most is that, to get something with proper synergy, it seems a pet soul always enters the mix, and I hate pets!

Pets kinda suck unless you're a soloing mage.
But it sucks ass having to micromanage your pet's position so it doesn't aggro roaming mobs.

I tried Druid as the 3rd soul on my Cleric build.
The pet does crap damage and crap healing.

Never bothered with a pet on my rogue build.
Saboteur just works so well with bard and my 3rd is nightblade for stealth.
No room for a pet soul.

I think that you can right click the base soul, and it will give you options of other souls you have unlocked. You might have to have no points spent in that sould in order to swap it out though.

There's a lot of friendly people on Gnarlwood.
You can look me up on Leny, Lene or Miir, and/or check out http://www.ignobleliver.com/forums/index.php

You can only replace a soul when you have no points spent in it.
For a few gold, your class trainer will reset the points on all your souls.
When you click on a soul with no points, a popup will appear with all your available/unlocked souls.

You can also purchase additional roles from your class trainer.
This will allow you to store multiple roles (builds).

For example, my cleric grouping/solo role is Sentinel, Inquisitor, Warden.
I purchased a second role for PVP which is Sentinel, Cabalist, Templar.
Each role has it's own hotbar config and can be switched on the fly.
You are just stripped of all your buffs when you swap roles.

I really enjoy the invasion style in Scarlet gorge. It's a fucking hoot when there is a good sized raid force. Had a chance to fight the robot boss guy at the end yesterday. I must have joined later in the event since I didn't get a purple shard. I did get a blue shiny and shard though. Fun times!

On a side note, it is much more of an enjoyable questing experience with a partner. Much less clutter!

I fought the water rift boss last night. Somehow I was tanking it for a long time. Must have been some awesome healers to keep me alive so long. About half way through a huge group of Defiant show up and start attacking the boss as well. One of my guildmates said to leave them alone as we'd need them to bring this guy down.

So about 50 of us are fighting this boss and he is slowly dropping. Then another Rift invasion force was marching down the road and I'm not sure if they were fighting the players or the boss but it was kind of crazy there for a bit.

As soon as the boss dropped both Guardian and Defiants went at it. It was fun to see that much fighting going on. We ended up winning that battle. Then we realized that we had killed the boss but the rift was still on top of our quest hub area of Hammersknell or whatever its name was. We had to kill another 50 or so mobs to clean that out.

It was a lot of fun.

Yeah, it is crazy when there is a boss encounter on enemy soil. My second rift invasion encounter in Scarlet Gorge was in the Guardian area. There were a ton of epic zombies (maybe 100?) and it took a bit. I guess the AoE wacked a bunch of townsfolk so everyone got flagged PVP. Since it was a Guardian quest hub, a good bit of fun ensued. I was blasting the fuck out of folks, which was a good time. However, much of the raid force bailed for some reason and I ended up losing some support.

Good times.

So I am running my level 25 Dwarven Cleric alt through stonefield in an effort to get to an outpost in Shimmering Sands for a crafting daily turn in. This is the first time I have been down here with this character. I ran another alt for the same reason to Lantern Hook but it was during the day so less traffic.

I am almost to Freemarch when I pass a level 34 Defiant. He didn't seem to be paying me any attention as I trotted by on my trusty turtle but I kept an eye on him anyhow. Sure enough he turned around and gave chase. He had a pet wolf or something with him as well. I took a quick turn and head over the mountain along the crest. He was doing his best to navigate the path I was taking and was almost upon me. I remembered our guild leader (a dwarf warrior) making fun of us all following him like lemmings over the cliff the other night and a few of us died in the process.

So I jumped off the cliff. The fall nearly killed me but I survived. Apparently the Defiant wasn't so lucky. He hit the ground and went SPLAT. I went back over to his corpse and giggled and then continued on my way. That was some fun.
