Logitech G15 Keyboard + EQ2 (and general macro help)

Post by Canelek »

So EQ2 has support for this fabulous keyboard. It looks like you can type macros directly into the programmable 'G' keys (6 vertically down left of keyboard w/ 3 "toggles" to bring to a total of 18 diff macros).

Does anyone use this? I know there is an older G15 with 18 keys, as well as the G11. Even though they reduced the amount of buttons, the config is most likely same.

Since the ALT + * and CTRL + * hotbar banks on UI are only so useful (unless you have incredible hand-span), I want to make the best use of those macro keys, if for nothing else to ease strain on my hand and maximize efficiancy.

Does anyone with this keyboard or similar have some nifty tricks/tips? Looks like there are a ton of options for programming keys, but I want to be able to simply add functionality without fucking up any other shortcuts default to EQ2.

Also, I have heard about mining macros and tradeskill macros, etc.. any guidance here? I have never been very creative when it comes to macros, so any help would be awesome, whether or not ya use this particular keyboard.

thanks!

Why the hell would you need macros for mining or tradeskliing....
Tradeskills involve 6 preset reaction arts tied to your 1-6 number keys.
Mining involves putting your mouse pointer over a node and hitting F... or making a target/useability macro.

I have an 18*3 G15 and a N52.
I use them quite a bit in other MMOs but have never found them to be useful at all in EQ2.

The support they recently added for the G15 was specifically related to the LCD display.
Macros on the G15 are done via the driver software for the keyboard. They don't require specific application support.

Just wanted macros for tradeskills so I would not have to do anything. :D

And harvesting, just so I could grab a drink. ;)

As for the real usage....

I want to hook specific CAs up to the macro buttons to clear them off of my primary, secondary and tertiary hotbars.

You can use the programming software for the keyboard to make /useability macros.... but then you won't be able to see cooldown/refresh timers.

I can't see that being something you'd be willing to give up just to clear a few hotkeys.

Maybe for persistent buffs...

Well, I want to put the icons on non key-bound hotbar so I could see cooldowns. :) So I can type /useability directly into macro/keyboard app, sweet. :D

Meh. I switched back to the hotbar layout I was used to, which means my CAs are all over the place but at least I know where they are! This is what happens when you level up for the first time I imagine. As you gain levels and CAs, you put them where you think they may work. Whatever though, it works for me (at least solo).

I need to have a pure raid profile so will need to split some of my CA combo macros apart to make sure I use things like Dispatch, Traumatic Swipe, etc at appropriate time as opposed to just having them as part of a macro package. I only bottled the CAs together so I could minimize the hand reaching due to abundance of positional attacks. ;)

Getting used to the keyboard layout however.

Hand span? Are you playing basketball or EQ? LOLZ!

I have not actually ever used the WASZ or ESDX setup for EQ. I made my own keymaps and use the arrows for all movement and tie all 3 of my hotkey bars to the numpad. It is compact as you can get and when you add in the 10 hotkeys you can have from the mouse I am gold. I had the G15 on that setup and found I just did not need it so I moved that board to my second box for the healer where I can make much better use of it.

What I would recommend for your G15 is to use it as an easy mode instead of your primary macros. Since you can make your own macro on those AND it can be set to remember keystrokes in real time, you can run off a string of your attacks just as you would do in a fight and basically it will be able to run off your entire first string of attacks on a mob while you sit back and light one up. It would also be a huge bonus in making targetting macros for certain fights.

Keep in mind that I had no numpad on the laptop. ;) Now, with that said, I like this keymapping to the numpad idea. Do use the standard hotbar setup (regular, ctrl+, alt+), just with the numpad as opposed to the regular # keys?

for the most part yes...I just added the numpad as a second hotkey for each so technically you can use either.

Are you calling my G15 old?

G-1 through G-18 for the win!

But me I also have a selecter, the m1-3 buttons to tripple those macroes!

I love this keyboard, but this damn mouse has been a huge headache.

As for macroes to do everything for you... Its been a long time but there were a ton of motion save macro programs I used for UO back in the day, for those actions that required mouse input.

Can you macro a simple command to a button without changing the interface file. Example, say I want /pet attack on my toolbar instead of on the pet interface (which went away when I switched to Profit, but I didn't like the default UI one in any event)

You can drag the pet attack button to your hotkey bars. You can also make that into a macro to put extra commands or output chat to a group or just about anything you want.
