The Big Content Patch

Post by Kwonryu DragonFist »

What are a couple of cool additions we can expect to see in the first update?

The major change is that we're increasing the level cap to 50, with new zones & villain groups to match those levels! Plus, we've added a lot of mission "interactivity". This is a direction we'll be going down more: making missions much more in-depth.

What can you tell us about Portal Corp?

The Portal Corporation is the "good" science institution in Paragon City. Though they often make mistakes, the Portal Corp. is interested in nothing other than the betterment of mankind. The Portal Corp. has actively worked with earth's super beings and continues this policy to the present day. Experienced heroes will find themselves entangled in many adventures caused by Portal Corp.'s experiments.

What can you tell us about the new Rikti Crash Site and Peregrine Island zones?

At one end of the zone lies a huge Rikti base ship that's still teeming with alien forces. The U.S. military has the Rikti pretty much bottled up in this one area, but there are constant skirmishes back and forth over bits of territory that change daily. While adventuring in the zone, it is commonplace to see a squad of Rikti teleport in and begin a firefight.

Peregrine Island is the headquarters for the famous Portal Corporation, whose MedCom patches teleport injured heroes to hospitals all across Paragon City. Portal Corp also invented the teleportation beams used by police sentry robots to protect vital parts of the city from villainous assaults. Some of the areas protected by the police sentry robots are the light rail stations and the gates between city zones.

Because the research on Peregrine Island is considered top secret, many villains and even corporate rivals invade the island from time to time. The special experiments held in the Portal Corp's HQ buildings also require heroes' intervention. For instance, Portal Corp. has been trying to perfect the technology to access other dimensions. Unfortunately, this research has begun causing more problems than providing answers.

The word on the street is there are some new villain organizations crashing Paragon City, what can you tell us about them?

In this update we learn of three new villain threats: Malta Group, Carnival of Shadows and Praetorians.

The Malta Group is a shadowy organization that's insinuated itself in the military and espionage organizations of the Western World. Rumors say that the group has been around for decades, but they have recently stepped up their operations against superhumans (for reasons still unknown). Part of their forces include the robotic Titans, a collection of cyborg/mech hybrids.

As far as the public knows, the Carnival of Shadows is a strange underground entertainment show that promises "depravity and despair"; it's become all the rage among the young socialites of Paragon City. No one can quite describe what the Carnival does in these quasi-legal shows, but authorities have their suspicions.

The Praetorians are supervillains of immense power and resources. Players will find them very, very familiar…

Can you describe what the Sewer Trial will be like?

The Sewer Trial is a long lasting, repeatable mission that asks the heroes to beat back the monstrous Hydra that lurks at the center of the sewer. Successful completion of this Trial nets a unique, powerful Enhancement not available anywhere else.

What's the deal with the new instanced outdoor missions and enhanced indoor missions versus current missions?

Outdoor mission sets allows heroes to take on missions in instanced pieces of the city. For example, a player might be asked to defend a neighborhood from a street gang riot. Only that player (and his teammates) can step into the fray and halt the thugs' rampage. Instead of being in a mission map with walls all around - and a ceiling - heroes will be battling in the fresh air of Paragon City.

-

The enhanced indoor missions add flavor to pre-existing sets. One example is the prisons; instead of re-appearing in a hospital, defeated heroes reappear in a jail cell. Players will need to blast through the door and escape detection to find their teammates (if they have any). Another enhanced room is the tech labs. If players destroy one of the experimental tech labs, they will be irradiated to receive a random buff or debuff to an attribute. So it's a good last gasp tactic to destroy one of the lab stations; you might get a much needed reprieve.

A source close to the Freedom Corps mentioned something about a new Tailor program is in the works?

The Freedom Corps will soon sponsor a tailor to create, mend and alter heroes' costumes. Their methods range from old-fashioned sewing to genetic alteration. The Freedom Corps believes that it serves the hero community - and thus helps Paragon City to create a brand new generation of heroes.

The Freedom Corps does not charge any money for its services. In order to access the tailor, heroes need to accomplish a few good deeds in the name of the Freedom Corps. But any costume change inevitably costs the player Influence; a change in appearance means that a hero isn't quite the recognizable figure that he was before!
