Quicktime and MP4 conversion tool?

Prompted by the latest thread on Apple...

Can anyone recommend any (free) conversion tool to take Quicktime and MP4 video files and save them as AVIs? I despise the Quicktime player.

no clue. I usually convert from other formats to mp4 for playback on my touch using Videora

I use nidesoft mp4 video converter which helps me convert MP4 to MP3, AVI to MP4, MPEG to MP4, WMV to MP4 video easily and fast with simple settings. I like using it.
