Enrichment of white rice with B1, B3, and iron is required by law in the United States.

I eat both. I'm Asian. So basically, you're wrong Winnow.

I don't know where you got your info on the enrichment, but from Wiki: (LOL HAS TO BE TRUE RIGHT?)
Wikipedia wrote:Brown rice and white rice have similar amounts of calories, carbohydrates, and protein. The main differences between the two forms of rice lie in processing and nutritional content.

When only the outermost layer of a grain of rice (the husk) is removed, brown rice is produced. To produce white rice, the next layers underneath the husk (the bran layer and the germ) are removed, leaving mostly the starchy endosperm.

Several vitamins and dietary minerals are lost in this removal and the subsequent polishing process. A part of these missing nutrients, such as Vitamin B1, Vitamin B3, and iron are sometimes added back into the white rice making it "enriched", as food suppliers in the US are required to do by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). [1]

One mineral not added back into white rice is magnesium; one cup (195 grams) of cooked long grain brown rice contains 84 mg of magnesium while one cup of white rice contains 19 mg.

When the bran layer is removed to make white rice, the oil in the bran is also removed. Rice bran oil may help lower LDL cholesterol.[2]

Among other key sources of nutrition lost are small amounts of fatty acids and fiber.

In addition to having greater nutritional value, brown rice is also said to be less constipating than white rice.
One thing I'll mention is that how Brown rice is cooked can weigh heavily on whether it tastes good or not, imo. I really freaking hated it when my dad first started eating it, he didn't cook it as long as I do now. Also it's harder for some people to go between the two since it takes different amounts of water to cook the two and it'll either be pasty or dry. Although I guess you could say that about white rice too.

Edit: NM, I can see you just picked the convenient parts of the Wiki article to post.

I like both. As long as brown rice is cooked properly, it can be pretty tasty. Which I prefer varies depending on how it's being used / served.

Exception: Sometimes for lunch I like to grab some supermarket sushi rolls. The sushi counter at the market I usually go to has been offering brown rice sushi rolls for a while. I tried them, and consider them to be an abomination.

Different rice has different applications... sticky rice is good times too, long and short grain haventheir place. I'm not a huge brown rice fan though. It works sometimes!

I like both, brown rice is better if you cook it for about 45 minutes to an hour.

I buy Thai Jasmine rice at the oriental market up the road, I can't pronounce the name. All the Filipino ladies call the brand dance rice "because it's so good it makes you want to dance".

I side with Aslanna. I eat brown rice pretty much exclusively (except if I'm having sushi, as noted above-- but even then I'll usually get sashimi).

White rice is calories with no nutrition. What's the point? If I want calories with no nutrition, I'll at least eat something interesting or tasty.

White rice with some olive oil and Everglades Seasoning on it is very tasty stuff. (http://evergladesseasoning.com/)

Soak up the juice from your steak with it, oil left from the salmon or whatever. Great as a compliment to other things.

White Rice with a little teriyaki sauce or butter = mmmmmm!

People overvalue all of the exotic spices. The two items you should always have handy are salt (iodized or not) and fake butter (Margerine, Can't Believe It's Not Butter, Country Crock, etc)

The rice has got to clump together of it's not cooked right.

Missed the "no nutrition" claim before. Judging by what's in my cupboard, white rice and brown rice are nearly identical nutritionally, the main difference being a few grams of fiber per serving that you gain from brown.

Neither is particularly nutritious. White rice has virtually no worthwhile stuff, while brown rice has a few extra grams of fiber and more vitamins and minerals-- B vitamins, potassium, etc.

As if we needed any more proof white rice sucks?
If you're concerned about contracting type 2 diabetes, you may want to consider laying off white rice. That's according to Harvard School of Public Health researchers, who released a study that collected data from loads of other research to posit that people whose diets rely on white rice tend to be more at risk of being diagnosed with the condition.

The analysis, released in the British Medical Journal, rounded up studies from China, Japan, Australia and the United States to come to its conclusions, the most damning of which says that each white rice serving you eat per day ups your risk by 10 percent.

Authors of the study recommend sticking with brown rice and other whole grains rather than processed white rice, which is rich in refined carbohydrates.

Heard this on the news, I'm too lazy to go look at the article but they've left something significant out. Maybe the "sponsored by the brown rice club of America" or something :)

Only downside to brown (and black) rice is they can go rancid after a while due to th tiny bit of oil in them.

I like brown rice, but Japan made me fall in love with sticky rice. A bowl of sticky rice with kimchi mixed in = fucking awesome. Regular white rice sucks.

Nono, I should have been more specific. Japanese sticky rice. The actual grain of rice is different, and while you can kind of get other white rices to be sticky, it's not the same and won't taste right. That's the only good white rice, IMO.
