Euro 2012

Post by Boogahz »

Germany and Netherlands are 9-0 in qualifying games so far with 27 points! One more group stage game to go if they're going to go through unbeaten. They're scheduled for a friendly on November 15th, which should be good.

Will be cheering for Denmark over Portugal in Group H!

Not a big soccer fan but I must admit it is a hoot going to a local pub downtown that is soccer/rugby-crazy. Go Dansker!

Only way that draw could have been worse would be if we'd gotten Spain instead of the Netherlands. Oh well. It's not impossible - we've done really well against Portugal lately, and we tend to be a good tournament team. Drawing against the Dutch isn't impossible, and with a win against Portugal and not too bad a beating from Ze Germans, we could qualify - if the other games in the group go our way.

The seeds for the draw were a complete joke, though. I realize that the hosts are usually seeded 1st, but still. We won a really hard qualifying group while Croatia came second in a joke of a group. Sweden qualified as best runners up, not as winners, and didn't even qualify for the 2010 WC - but still rank higher.

Oh well.

Watched a little of this (because Czech strippers like it), and man, the fucking Portugese take diving to a whole other level.

Maybe they spend their spare time learning from the masters by watching Italy play.

Another final where you wish there was a way both teams could lose.

For some strange reason, the Italian team has been growing on me. For the first time ever, I'm actually liking them. Balotelli is hilarious and awesome, Pirlo is awesome and awesome and awesome and looks like Taylor Negron and for once they haven't once played for a draw!

Yeah, Mario 'why always me?' Balotelli is definitely fun to watch. I'm waiting for Pirlo's skills to start dropping. He's...33ish?...yet his footwork is still super-smooth. I fully accept the fact that Italy beat Germany this week. It's what they effin' do :(

I just can't bring myself to watch Spain play. It feels that they have been skirting by throughout the tourney. I think I would rather watch an Italy v Greece final. At least you could see some finesse trying to break through the Greek walls.

If this final ends up being anything other than a 90 minute game of keep-away, I will be shocked.

Recovered from the shock yet?

Spain were semi-boring through the tournament, but with that showing in the final, you can't say they didn't deserve the title. Impressive, would've been even if the italians hadn't had to play a man down.

Really enjoyed the tournament this year. First time I've gotten to watch just about every live match. One of the only good things about having lost my job recently. :P

I really hated Balotelli until this tournament. His shinanagins in the past made him seem like a totally despicable person. Through the tournament he seemed to have matured a bit. Or at least he didn't hurt anyone or burn anything down. That's improvement! Oh and he was easily the most exciting player to watch on the field.

Was a real shame that Italy used all their subs so quick against Spain and had Motta get injured minutes after coming on. Going 2 down against Spain is bad enough, then going down a man...It was over at that point. Spain would have probably won no matter what, but Italy didn't get to shine like they had up until that point.
