EQ2 Character Generation (graphics intensive)

Post by Winnow »

Well, I grabbed the EQ2 character generator.

My thoughts...

Some of the accessories are nice but others are bad. The cat
race appears to be into self mutilation. I didn't post any picts
but there are lots of options for facial piercing.

The hair is horrible. Playdoh hair to the maximus. Some of
the hair styles/color combinations are downright hilarious.

This post covers mostly the females...and only the ones that
looked semi decent to me...the other races are worse.

First I tried to recreate my gnome Winni. That went pretty well. Cool shades!:

Image

Image

The female Iksars looked pretty nice as well:

Image

Nice fish necklace on the kitty cat:

Image

Dark Elf females are pretty standard:

Image

Image

Erudites look quite a bit different:

Image

Wood Elves have the hottie factor still!

Image

High Elves aren't too shabby:

Image

Female Ogres. Eep

Image

Female Trolls are pretty cool looking:

Image

Image

I may have mixed up the woodelves and halfelves:

Image

What's up with the hair???

Image

Image

Now for the downright scary...female barb. That's got to be a joke:

Image

Male Dark Elf...think Ace Venture 2 Movie!

Image

Obviously the hair is the worst part of the new models. That said,
I did spend much more time creating characters using EQ2 generator than I did in the WoW Phase 3 beta!

Every review I've seen about the models from anyone who attended E3 and the Guild Summit say that the models look a thousand times better in person.

Interested if anyone has a copy of this that'd be willing to send me, will pay.

Can get it at some bittorrent sites.. will see if my links are still live. From what I have seen it looks better than WoW.. and as for wasting beta slots: I know quite a few people who have quit WoW beta.

The WoW character generation is pretty boring right now, but I'm not entirely sure they are done with it yet.

I was able to download it from torrent -- so far all I've done is recreated Llaffer:

And yes, it does look better in the the program while it is going through it's idle animations than just the stale still image.

I'm impressed and looking forward to how the rest of EQ2 will work out.

As much whining as I hear, the majority of the people will end up in EQ2. WoW, right from the opening same old Blizzard opening screens, was just another clone. The character generation isn't as good as EQ2s. THe hair sucks in both but EQ give you more options. Gameplay..i hit "T" for attack and sat back and watched my gnome attack a wolf...seems the same as EQ! After seeing WoW and EQ2, Lineage 2 is still far and away the king of character models.

You can hack into WoW Phase 3. Just download the Phase 3 off the newsgroups or Bittorent, then you use a little loader program to get you onto the servers.

It's not for beginner hacks but also not that hard. You're playing on non WoW servers so you don't get the masses of people but you do get to create characters, run around the world, level up, fight baddies, get skills etc.

Here are some links for you:

Torrent link to EQ Character generator:

http://66.90.75.92/suprnova//torrents/2 ... at.torrent

Link to WOW Beta Hacks:

http://www.blizzhackers.com/viewtopic.p ... bbccd919f5

Note: don't try out the WoW hack unless you're patient and can download a 2gb mainfile and then research the other requirements with a chance that it won't work for you.

BTW, there's an age slider for the characters. I made the gnome as young as possible, otherwise they look old and ragged like Luclin gnomes!

All of the controls for nose, size, shale upturned, down turned, lips full/thin, wide/narrow, etc...eyes slanted up/down...chin large, long, narow, cheeks, etc etc. All sliders.

You can come up with decent characters but the hair texture and styles are pretty bad overall. I doubt they'll revamp those before release but they should....oh and female dwarfs, halflings, are bad. I couldn't come up with eve a decent one to show here using the randomizer. That said, EQ2 > WoW!.

The hacked WoW gives you no real feel for how the game actually plays. Just killing wolves on an emu server is nothing like the actual game play.

You can get a great feel for the interface. You can also level up, group with other players, get skills, travel...the only thing you're missing is the high end game. It's not like you're running around in an empty world with no other players or mobs.

I'd say you can get a pretty good feel for the game using the hack and logging onto a server with 500 people on it.

Just knowing how picky the gamers are from VV....and knowing their attention span from previous games.....I am betting there are less than 15 people who stick with WoW and play it like they did EQ after 6 months.

It only seems cool because it is beta and because it is somewhat new. Blizzard will have you furious after a couple months of playtime when it goes live. I am not even wasting time immersing into it knowing that EQ2 will be the place I end up anyway.

Personally I'm ecstatic that Winnow won't be playing WoW, even though they have his fetish personified in the female gnomes.

As for the EQ2 models, they've said that the textures are not final, that they plan to re-texture a lot of it (think hair).

The Iksar look really sweet, but the rest left me unimpressed. Still very plasticky looking. The skin in particular needs a LOT of work.

I made a gnome in WoW. She was haggard. EQ original gnomes are better than WoWs!

I hope the hair is retextured as it seems way out of whack for the quality of the models. The female barb I posted above isn't a joke. That's an actual model...the problem with the hair is it's too thick and the your color picker is limited to 4 colors which makes for unrealistic hair colors even with the highlighting options. Make the hair much mure subtle. All the men have groucho marx eyebrows. Give the men eyebrows more liek the female models have and fix the hair and we're all set!

I'm glad I won't be playing an online game with dregor as his liberal band of pussies probably never attack anything and stage protests when the horde is attacked.

I have no power to ban anyone, nor would I want to.

I fully support an individuals right to have an opinion and express it, and I look forward to seeing differing points of view now and in the future. That said if it devolves into personal attacks in this forum, which is very clearly labeled for video game discussion, the thread will be a) moved to an appropriate forum, b) locked or c) split and moved to an appropriate forum.

I didn't mean actually ban us, I said ban us from badmouthing each other. And if we're talking about video games, then yea, we'd have every right. Just because it's negative doesn't mean it isn't on topic. But hey, I could make this a second job for you if you want.

Key thing you are missing here is QUESTS. Questing is the bread and butter of WoW (at least, 1-35 or so - experience needs some rebalancing to keep quests the main focus past 35). Playing with the interface, running around, and grinding doesn't give you an actual sense of how WoW gameplay really unfolds.

Winni is hotter! You can call her Mini MaryJane though if you want.

If you wanted to try and match them up closer, you do have controls over chin length, width, cheeks high/low etc.

It's a shame all models look like they're wearing wigs though. IMO, the Lineage 2 character designer artists are worth big bucks. FFXI comes in second. What the hell is wrong with american companies? We're outsourcing everything else, lets outsource the design of character models as well.

WoW is all about the quests. If you're just killing without any purpose then I concede that it might be like EQ-like.

I'm sure there's a world of difference between the few wolves emu geeks put on their "server" and the actual mob placement that Blizzard setup on the actual worlds.

I'd recommend that you don't judge this game Before playing it the way it was meant to be played. I've been playing it for 9 months(except for that few weeks of CoH) and quality-wise, it's superior to anything available on the market right now.
