2013 Finished Game List

Post by Aslanna »

You know the drill. If not:
Here is where we keep track of which games we've finished for the year. I think keeping our small group of remaining posters playing and discussing on the same thread would be better than splitting us up into console specific threads.

--What counts as finished?

Well, I say it's when you see credits roll (if possible). Some games are perpetual, such as sports games, things like Battlefield 1943, and many others. For these, it's whenever you feel you've accomplished the goals you set out for yourself in the game. For something like L4D, it may be as simple as playing through all the maps, or as complicated as getting every acheivement in the game. We're using the honesty system here, so when you've finished a game, go ahead and list it!

What counts as complete?

This is a significant difference over simply finishing a game. Completing means you have snagged 1000/1000 acheivements or platinum trophied the game. You have done everything there is to do in that game. This counts for games as large as Fallout 3 and as small as an XBL or PSN game. If games have no "proof" or scoring method, it's all you're decision.

--What counts as a game?

It's a harder question than you maight think. For instance, when tallying up the games I finished last year, I had to really think about some particular situations. One such issue was "Do I count each piece of DLC for Fallout 3 seperately"? My answer was yes. However, the DLC for Gears 2 and L4D were only one map, so I chose not to count them. I totally counted Peggle on my iPhone, since I beat that like a rented mule. In the end, it's up to you. Some situations will just depend on your personal opinion on what you consider as a game, or just an addition to the game itself. More examples are the latest Borderlands DLC (not games IMO) and the GTA4 expansions Lost and the Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony (both games!).

--Do multiple playthroughs count?

I say yes! I played the single player of Halo 3, Gears 1, and World at War only to play all the way through them again at a later time in co-op mode with a friend. I plan on doing a co-op run through RE5 sometime this year. I count each one of those complete playthroughs as finishing another game. I think you should give yourself credit for the time/effort it takes to play through your favorite games multiple times. This also helps ensures that you continue to play games for enjoyment.

--What systems count?

All of them. iPhone, PC/Steam, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP, fucking anything and everything!

The format will be as such:

Date - Game - System - COMPLETE

Only use the red completed msg when you have completed a game. The rest are just assumed that you finished a game.

Frankly I enjoyed it quite a bit. I got it off the Humble THQ bundle and enjoyed it a whole lot. There's not a while lot of variety in the levels but the story carries you along very well. Definitely a letdown at 60$ but for 10-15$, it's a pretty good, solid 3rd person shooter. Enjoyed it a lot more than the few hours I put into Metro 2033.

It's not the same type of open world game like Guerilla ended up being and that's where a lot of reviewers knocked it hard(and unfairly IMO).

Mayhem 3D. Ahem. Fuck this motherfucking game to hell and back. Fucking gang raping AI in the final 2 chapters make this game completely rage inducing. It starts out almost too easy, but I fucking give up on the last 2 races. If I get first place in those 2 races I unlock 180 gamer score but after 2 hours playing two tracks I cannot fucking take it anymore. Cheating rubber banding AI motherfuckers. Fuck this game.

(It was an absolute steal at 5$. This is Demolition Derby for this gen. Addictive as hell and great to play in short bursts. But fuck it anyway, I'm done. I can't take it anymore!!!)

I thought Mayhem was a terrible game.
I would rather play the 6 year old Flat Out: Ultimate Carnage or the 12 year old Twisted Metal: Black than that ugly, clunky, headache inducing game. Terrible physics, handling and hit detection.... which are pretty important in a game like this.

I did have fun with it for about 15 minutes before the it became painfully obvious how truly awful the game really is.

If I had spent $5 on it, I would have felt ripped off.

It's funny you mentioned Twisted Metal, because I was thinking how much better Mayhem is than the latest entry in the series which is sad considering the respective budgets. Mayhem is an arcade racer. The controls are simple and intuitive. Anyone can pick it up and play it. Hell, it's just as easy driving backwards as forward. It is not better than other racers out there, like NFS, Forza, ect, but it is indeed different and fills a niche that has been neglected since the early PS1 days. Mayhem is a great demolition derby game. Lots of interesting modes (The Pit baby!) and tons of stuff to do, all presented in a very fun format. More people should be trying it out! My cons with the game are that it's pretty short and it boasts 120 vehicles that are basically nothing more than pixel swaps. The music is great though, and I mentioned the overall presentation was done very well with the black/white/red graphics. There isn't a whole lot of reviews out there and the ones I have either read or watched on youtube are "Love it or Hate it" type reviews. I'm certainly glad I happened upon the title in the cheapie bin and took a chance.

Man, I played this for days back on PS1. Mayhem scratches this itch like nothing else out there right now.

I admire your spirit, I really do.
Let me tell you why my last 2 races suck so hard. First, they are 5 laps (most in the game are 3). Second, they are 3x elimination laps (most are 2x elimination). This means that every time a car crosses the finish line per lap, the last 3 cars explode. So you can never be in the last 3 spots or else the game ends immediately. On both of these courses, there is a suicide turn at the start where every fucking car dogpiles me, virtually guaranteeing me that I will be in the final 3 positions on the very first lap. A couple of times I have survived the dogpile, only to have every car on the track coming at me with 100% suicidal tenacity. I actually made it 5/5 laps in first place once only to have the last 2 cars fly past me with the finish line in sight. I was sitting alone in my basement at midnight staring stone faced at my TV muttering curse words under my breath. So, this is the type of track where you are either first, or you die. I have lost a track in 15 seconds and played for 5 minutes and still came in last. I'm getting mad just thinking about it!

So, it goes back on the shelf for awhile. I'll try it again in a couple of weeks and see if I can wiggle out a win, but I'm not sure I can at this point.

Haha, this was my first thought as well. I was thinking about starting another game related thread where we discuss what we've been playing on a daily/weekly basis. I enjoy general game chatter and like to hear about what others are playing. Also, much like this thread, it is an interesting way of tracking stats and gaming habits of mine.

Finished up the last of the achievements for Darksiders 2 today, that was a great game! Only negative was that over the 55 or so hours I played it, it froze my xbox about a dozen times.

Just realized I'm not going to be able to get 1000 points for farcry without playing through again (not gonna happen). You can miss the achievement for getting all the akills because one requires you to liberate 2 outposts without being detected and ive already lie rated them all. I'm pretty pissed to be honest, they shouldn't do shit like that.

I agree missable trophies are lame. That's why I always check a guide first. That doesn't excuse developers putting them in there but it's something every person who wants to 100% a game should consult before beginning.

- Estimated Trophy Difficulty: 2/10
- Trophy Breakdown: 51 (1/2/10/38)
- Offline Trophies: 51
- Online Trophies: 0
- Approximate Time to platinum: 25 hours
- Missable Trophies: Unheard, Fully Inked
- Glitched Trophies: None
- Minimum Number of Playthroughs: 1

Dead or Alive 5 (credits rolled)

Really enjoyed the storyline which was as bad as any other DOA game in the series. It's worth playing if you can pick it up for cheap and you like fighting games. Not a fan of the genre myself but kinda got drawn in because of the DOAX games. It does add to the game seeing many of the same characters over 5 games (DOAX 1, 2, DOA 3, 4, 5) The new characters introduced in 5 were pretty good.

Far Cry 3 was a highly enjoyable game. Good pacing, just the right length, and by the end you really feel godly with maxed skill trees. Marking camps from a safe distance then figuring out the best way to slaughter the enemy was a great game mechanic. Jumping down from above, killing 2 dudes at once, chaining to another, then using his knife to toss into another dude was some of the most fun I have ever had in video games. And the game had some memorable and crazy NPCs in it to boot. The acting was great and the models and animation were top notch. Going back to something like Skyrin wih it's rigid, generic NPCs is going to be hard after playing through FC3!

Ni No Kuni platinum tonight. Overall a fun game, but fairly easy. The only fights that couldn't be facerolled by over leveling (which will happen if you're trophy hunting) were both post campaign (guardian of the worlds and final fight of the solesseum s rank), and they werent even that tough.

There are a couple of dick-punching grinds if you're going for platinum.

Halo 4 down. I thought it was the best one. The enemies were pretty intetesting and so were the new weapons. Graphically, 343 wirked some weird vodoo magic in order to milk those 8 year old technology. At times the game was stunning to look at.

On to the next game!

Having a tough time completing Lego LotR. I get that Lego games are all about collecting shit, which I can accept considering I have 100%'d a lot them in the past, but it seems like they went overboard with this one. Or maybe the open world thing makes it more of a chore than it should be. Not sure!

I just wrapped up Diablo 3 Normal mode as a wizard. Damn this class is so much more fun than my Witch Doctor! I also played it through online, which is a first for me. Definitely more fun with others. The game flies by as well. I bet it took me 1/2 as long with a full group as it did when I was single player.

For all the shit it gets, Diablo 3 is a damn fun game. I just ignore the RL auction house altogether.

Nobody has said anything bad about normal mode. It's actually quite fun the first time through.
Considering you can blow through Normal mode in about 8 hours, it's just not particularly good value.

Diablo 3 is rubbish after Nightmare.
Cant believe they still haven't put in PVP.
The pvp implementation in 1.0.7 looks pretty fucking lame.

Ignoring the auction house is fine if you just want to casually go through the game on normal/nightmare with a few characters. If you're going to keep playing in inferno though, ignoring the auction house will afford you a fuckton of frustration, and that's about it.

Yup. Pretty much a lesson in madness to avoid AH past Hell level. Not like you have to spend real money after all...that just is not fun. Not like the game varies much each iteration. You need very specific gear per class to make it through the second act of Inferno and beyond. I called it a day after farming and farming for very little entertainment value.

Had potential, but the game really is a waste of time at that point. It was fun for a while though! They needed to keep things fresh since they had no upcoming content. Torchlight 2 is a superior game as far as gameplay, but could really use a AH, conversely.

I just beat normal with a Demon Hunter. Started out weak as fuck, but boy did he ramp up in power fast! I think I may actually like him more than the Wizard. I'm going through as a Barbarian now but I'm thinking I enjoy ranged combat the most. He's still fun to play though.

My day off is finished. Back to reality tomorrow with getting up early, kids, work, ect.

I never had a big problem with difficulty on demon hunter, and once I got it down farming inferno was a cake walk. Problem is drop rates are so horrendous that the only way to get the good shit in inferno is the auction house. And the only way to get it in the ah is to farm for months per piece, or spend real money. That's a horseshit way to prolong people's interest, and like miir said, it's a joke pvp still isn't out.

Monk down on D3 Normal. I liked the Barbarian more for melee. A lot of the monk's (limited) active slots were taken up with my ghost monk companion and a mantra of some sort. That left me a whopping 4 slots for actual, fun fighting abilities. He was ok overall. Looking over his skills, I bet a monk is pretty nice to have around on the harder difficulties though!

Skyrim: Dragonborn done...was alright. not as good as the original story line...but whatever. Also, the setting is kind of lame.

Tomb Raider done. (credits rolled)

GOTY! It will be hard to top this game for me but I know there are next gen games coming out the end of the year so we'll see. Extremely satisfying game. Highly recommended.

I'm pretty pissed to be honest, they shouldn't do shit like that.
Latest patch might help?
Far Cry 3's "fan requested features" patch, announced in February, was released today for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC, Ubisoft announced.

The patch is part of Ubisoft's "on-going effort to respond to players" by adding improvements, new challenges and more. In Far Cry 3's single-player campaign, the patch includes an option for outpost resets, a new "Master" difficulty setting and new HUD settings. Multiplayer updates cover a map test, which allows players to publish a new map in beta mode, idle kick for away players and more time to cast a skip vote.
I don't know what all an "outpost reset" entails.

Sexy, thanks for the heads up :) I'll probably finish that game up in that case.

Wrapped up my Halo 4 playthrough on Legendary. Played the whole thing solo. There was a few tougher spots in the game but overall there was nothing here that was unmanageable or that would induce controller throwing rage.

I haven't played Halo 2 but this is easily my favorite of the Master Chief's outings. (I'd preferred the non-numbered campaigns, ODST and Reach). You can see that 343 care about preserving the Halo franchise.

Jetpack Joyride 100% finally.

Tomb Raider finished also but not going to bother with 100% on that game thanks to the stupid multiplayer trophies. The game shouldn't even have MP much less a bunch of trophies for that!

CoD Blops 2 down. Fun game. It got pretty crazy at the end. The story was even more confusing and full of plot holes than anything else in the series so far. I'm always impressed by what they manage to pull off graphically in those games despite the age of the engine.

Next up? I've played/have been playing a large amount of games here and there. Ni No Kuni, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, Lego City Undercover, Tomb Raider, and at least 5-6 more I cannot think of right now. It's time to focus fire another one into the finished pile so I'm thinking Tomb Raider will get my full attention next, then Bioshock Infinite after that? I'll continue pushing characters through various levels of Diablo 3 too.

At least there aren't a ton of major releases coming out in the foreseeable future!

I just wrapped up Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X on the VITA/Playstation Plus recently but I'm not sure how I feel about putting it here given that I've finished this game about a dozen times across multiple platforms, including iOS.

I'm on my first ever playthrough of MGS2 on the Vita currently as well as working my way through LA Noire and XCOM: Enemy Unknown on the PC. So many quality games in my backlog at the moment. Talk about a good problem to have. Waiting for Tomb Raider to dip to at least 29$ before jumping on that one. Farcry 3 is also on my list to get at that price.

Also, if you'd be interested in Baldur's Gate 3, supporting the enhanced editions of Baldur's Gate and the soon-to-be released Baldur's Gate 2 will help make that a reality.

It is nice to see Apple catching up in the gaming world. Perhaps soon you will see such modern titles as Metroid and Mario Bros.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition was released for the PC last November, just three months before it was released for the Mac.

I just finished Diablo 3 on Inferno with a Barbarian. When working as a group, I only die on multiple elite packs or if they have a combination of ridiculous abilities. I have a series of stuns that I can do that tends to hold enemies in place long enough for the others to decimate them. With crazy elite packs I tend to shuck and jive a bit by running in to stun/bleed, then run away letting the others beat them down.

There is a type of player in D3 that I already fucking hate. They put on fast run abilities/gear, and just sprint ahead of the rest of us, skipping every single monster along the way. I don't understand why these fucking dicks don't just play single player. They raise the difficulty level by being there and then they don't help in the killing. I've started to kick those players and the votes are passing every single time so it seems like I'm not the only one that hates them.

Well, summer is here. My video game time is dwindling. I spent 8 hours in the yard yesterday with the wife and kids doing spring cleanup and getting ready for summer. Mowing the lawn, putting down river rock, mulching, ect. I'll be cutting down a 45ft tree and putting up a privacy fence in the coming weeks as well as putting in hardwood floors in the dining room, painting, and possibly doing the living room floor as well. We're also seriously considering getting kayaks for the entire family, which means lots of lake time on the weekends if we go that route. It's going to be a productive and active summer, that's for sure! However, my gaming will likely suffer haha.

Crysis 1 down. I have started this game from scratch 3 other times and lost my save files via HD formats or HD failures every single time. I beat the game in 2 sittings this time only to find out that my last play through I was about 2/3rds of the way through it.

Crysis 1 is a good game. Besides the graphics looking fantastic, it also had great sound design. The story was meh, but the action was above average to say the least. The vehicle sections were kind of shitty though and I had to resort to quick saving every 10 seconds during the last 2 encounters because they were pretty cheesy. I own and have played Crysis 2 on the Xbox. I'm about 2-3 hours into it I would say, but it has been a long time since I played it. I have Crysis 3 for the 360 as well but haven't touched it since I have yet to beat 2. I look forward to using that bow in Crysis 3!
