Rush Limbaugh = King Asshole

Post by Aslanna »

Nice spokesperson you Republicans have...
Rush Limbaugh caused a controversy by describing Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke as a "slut", "prostitute" and "round-heeled" and questioning whether her parents were proud of her on his radio show for supporting a federal contraception mandate for private insurance that included religiously-affiliated institutions. On February 29, 2012, he stated:

What does it say about the college coed Susan Fluke [sic], who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex? What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex.

He continued that day and stated:

Can you imagine if you're her parents how proud of Sandra Fluke you would be? Your daughter goes up to a congressional hearing conducted by the Botox-filled Nancy Pelosi and testifies she's having so much sex she can't afford her own birth control pills and she agrees that Obama should provide them, or the Pope.

On March 1, 2012, Limbaugh said that Fluke is "having so much sex, it's amazing she can still walk". He also asked "Who bought your condoms in sixth grade?" During the same show, he said:

So, Ms. Fluke and the rest of you feminazis, here's the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it, and I'll tell you what it is. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch.

On March 2, 2012, he offered what he said was a "compromise" to contraception coverage: purchasing "all the women at Georgetown University as much aspirin to put between their knees as possible". He continued that saying he "[ran] some numbers" on contraception costs and arguing that contraception coverage was "flat-out thievery" that would force taxpayers to pay to "satisfy the sexual habits of female law students at Georgetown. Later, he dismissed concerns over lack of access to contraception coverage and mocked Fluke's congressional testimony, affecting a baby's voice and pretending to cry, saying: "I'm going broke having sex. I need government to provide me condoms and contraception. It's not fair." He asked, "Ms. Fluke, have you ever heard of not having sex? Have you ever heard of not having sex so often?" He then stated:

"So, Ms. Fluke and the rest of you feminazis, here's the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it, and I'll tell you what it is. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch."

"Who bought your condoms in junior high? Who bought your condoms in the sixth grade? Or your contraception. Who bought your contraceptive pills in high school

He continued that Fluke is "having so much sex, it's amazing she can still walk". He also said Georgetown should establish a "Wilt Chamberlain scholarship ... exclusively for women". He described Fluke as "a woman who is happily presenting herself as an immoral, baseless, no-purpose-to-her life woman. She wants all the sex in the world whenever she wants it, all the time, no consequences. No responsibility for her behavior."

On March 3, 2012, Limbaugh defended his previous comments about Fluke and complained that "not one person says that, 'Well, did you ever think about maybe backing off the amount of sex that you have?". Limbaugh said that requiring insurance companies to cover contraception is "no different than if somebody knocked on my door that I don't know and said, 'You know what? I'm out of money. I can't afford birth-control pills, and I'm supposed to have sex with three guys tonight.' " On her parents being proud of her he said, "I'm gonna button my lip on that one." He went on to say that if his daughter had testified that "she's having so much sex she can't pay for it and wants a new welfare program to pay for it," he'd be "embarrassed" and "disconnect the phone", "go into hiding", and "hope the media didn't find me". He continued later, "Oh! Does she have more boyfriends? They're lined up around the block. They would have been in my day." He continued that Fluke testified that her "sex life is active. She's having sex so frequently that she can't afford all the birth-control pills that she needs. That's what she's saying."
Oh but wait.. He did "apologize" so it's ok.
For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.

I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit? In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone's bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.

My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.
How sincere! Seven advertisers so far have jumped ship. I can't see how any would stick around but I'm sure he'll have enough to stay on the air. Unfortuantely.
David Frum, former special assistant to President George W. Bush:"Limbaugh's verbal abuse of Sandra Fluke set a new kind of low. I can't recall anything as brutal, ugly and deliberate ever being said by such a prominent person and so emphatically repeated. This was not a case of a bad "word choice." It was a brutally sexualized accusation, against a specific person, prolonged over three days."

To be fair, her statement "I'm going broke having sex. I need government to provide me condoms and contraception. It's not fair." is pretty ridiculous. It's like smokers asking the government to pay for their cigarettes because they can't afford it anymore.

I'm not on his side or anything, but he's been called similar names too. My favorite being from Al Franken "Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot" and I don't think Franken should apologize for that. That being said, he's a big fat idiot and should just go away already.

Yeah I can see how calling someone "a big fat idiot" is totally the same as personal attacks on the same person over a three day span...

What sucks is that old people love Limbaugh (and voting), and they and their twisted opinions won't just die, along with his radio tenure.

As long as Limbaugh continues to control the message for the republican party I am totally cool with that. There is is no better reason to not vote GOP than lard asses like him. Although he is slightly dangerous than retards like Santorum, who put their sweater vest on and try to look like an every day kind of guy, who will straight up outlaw casual sex, women's reproductive rights and homosexuality if he could get away with it.

He is obviously out of line and I in no way endorse what he said.

On the topic though, I certainly don't feel it makes any sense for people to be focusing on getting the government to pay for contraception, instead of figuring out a better way to handle healthcare as a whole. Again, thats not to say I don't feel contraception isn't important, the last thing we need is more people having children they don't want or can't/won't take care of. But there are people with much more serious and pressing health concerns that can't afford to have them addressed.

For a group so opposed to abortion I find their stance on contraception truly puzzling. Especially too with how opposed they are to social programs such as welfare. The whole thing is just a big bowl of "does not compute".

He apologized after sponsers started dropping him. FYI, it was the Democrat's fault he said those things. Seriously. That's what he said!

I'll still take Limbaugh over Hannity any day. I can and do listen to Rush on occassion. Hannity is 10x the shill that Rush is. I fucking hate every single thing about that guy.

However, like all things Republican, it's really a matter who is shittier than the other guy. Both of them are terrible human beings.

Moral opposition to birth control is grounded in religion (mostly catholicism) because some random pope a few centuries ago had the revelation that if caltholics stopped yanking their dicks out of their wives before the money shot, then there'd be more kids. And those kids would be catholic. There is actually nothing in any version of the bible where God says you are not allowed contraception.

Contraception is a women's health issue mostly, which is why the religious right despises it. To them a women's health issue is putting an ice pack on her black eye if dinner is served cold.

Especially when I've heard it suggested than the huge drop in the violent crime rate in the last 10 years can at least in part be attributed to what in essence was self-inflicted eugenics via easy access to abortions and the violence of the "crack wars". The completely politically incorrect news story described it as "a generation of criminals that was never born, coupled with another that snuffed itself out". Seems kind of logical but how true I've no idea.

Guess we'll see when Gen-meth fails to reproduce and the trailer parks empty out.

Contraception is to an extent a male control issue too, no birth control means wifey can't run around like a trollop. A good chunk of the RNC is anti-Catholic too if you recall. Sex is only for marriage or old guys and their mistresses after all.

Viagra is 100% for sex only. Using it can actually complicate and exacerbate a huge range of common comorbidities. Viagra is covered under insurances. Meanwhile birth control, in addition to preventing unwanted pregnancy, is used to provide a wide range of health benifits to women and is not covered.

Women can walk down to the health department and possibly get birth control for free or at a greatly reduced price. However, the taxpayer is subsidizing that. Make insurers offer birth control and let the woman pay for it herself if she wants/is able to. I don't see the problem here other than what Kyoukan eluded to which is simply unadulterated sexism.

Viagra is not covered under most medical insurance plans, and only for erectile dysfunction due to medical reasons like prostate removal. And you have to have a pretty sweet insurance plan even for that. Pfizer's fight with insurance plans and legislators to force insurance companies to include it as a covered expense is well known.

The only reason men are prescribed Viagra are for ED which happens for a variety of reasons, all of which would be a medical diagnosis. However, no one ever died from lack of sex. Viagra is prescribed and taken for the sole purpose of fucking, unlike birth control.

I'm aware of that. The pope that originally said no to birth control was actually only in the 50s or 60s, when the first pill came about. They actually came close to convincing him, and likely would have if they would have focused on different speaking points. The catholic church's view of birth control at that point (and still today, possibly) was timing a woman's cycle and having sex when she is the least fertile. Had they focused more on how the pill can regulate her cycle making that time more predictable, they may have seen a different outcome. That's not to mention studies that have shown that taking the pill can reduce cancer risk due to shortened periods, resulting in less cell mutation. That said, they didn't know all of this when they were originally trying to convince the pope.

However, if the reason this is being made issue is more related to conservative religious assholes trying to control women's lives, it would be better to address that directly, in my opinion.

Winning Our Future, a super PAC backing Gingrich, ran two ads critical of Mitt Romney during Monday's broadcast and said it would not pull its ads. "Why would we?" said Rick Tyler, a senior adviser, noting that Limbaugh had apologized to Fluke. "Did USA TODAY call advertisers on Bill Maher's show after what he said about Sarah Palin?"
These people are so dumb they don't even know that Bill Maher's show doesn't have advertisers. When is the last time you saw an ad on HBO? Other than for their own programs.

If the Sarah Palin supporters were so offended perhaps they should have started a campaign to boycott HBO or something.

I haven't read any responses to this, but whatever.

I think it is retarded that people are fighting so hard against this. Honestly, why the hell would anyone be against insurance covering contraception? We have TOO MANY PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. Take every other argument out of the equation, and this one still wins. The only group that has any legitimate beef with that is the Catholic Church...but if everyone in the world was Catholic and had been Catholic for the past few generations, we would already be so overpopulated we wouldn't be able to breathe.

Beyond that, birth control is a legitimate insurance claim. Honestly, I'm very surprised insurance companies are not fighting for this themselves. Many women develop long term problems from being pregnant. My fiancee developed hypothyroidism after having my son. Her doctors said it was completely because she became pregnant. Her insurance ended up paying around $50,000 for that in the long run. My mother did not have those kinds of problems, but has more long term (and my fiancee may as well, but its too soon to tell). Her teeth were basically drained of calcium from my brother and me. I was 9 lb 13 oz, my brother was 9 lb 8 oz, and my mother is 5'8 and weighs 110 lbs. She had great teeth before becoming pregnant, and right after I was born, and even more so after my brother, her teeth started to break and basically fall out of her head. She has about half of her natural teeth left now, and those + her jaw and the rest of her mouth are in constant repair. Around $35,000 in dentistry bills so far, and has signs of osteoporosis as well.

Then you have the child itself. Most insurance plans are required to cover a new child. Many cannot even raise the rate when the child is added. My son is quite healthy, but right after birth had jaundice and had to spend 4 days in the ICU under ultraviolet light. I was on medicaid at the time, because my financial status was nowhere near what it is now and my parents weren't in a position to really help, but if I were on my own insurance that would have cost my company tons of money. Even without a private insurance company, my medicaid definitely cost the government plenty. My son is now on BC\BS through my step-father, who doesn't pay any more with him added. He is completely nuts, and I completely expect a broken bone at least in the next few years, on top of constant sinus \ upper respiratory infections (my brother and I had them as well when we were children). Again, tons of money to insurance companies.

I know the insurance companies can afford it, as they are making stupid amounts of money and generally find every loophole they can to keep from paying on the high dollar problems. That is not the issue I am looking at here. I am looking at it from the standpoint of an insurance company that actually cared about what they are paying out on this issue alone, and nothing else included. It makes the most sense to pay for birth control. The pregnancy rate for women without birth control is so so so much higher than those without it. Pregnancy includes HUGE medical bills and continues to add more for years and years, but birth control is a constant, cheap solution.

Maybe the insurance companies are just looking at it with the idea that most women will get pregnant eventually, so it does not matter to them if it is sooner or later...but even then it seems that later would generally be better, as the women tend to be more mature (less therapy payments), have better economic standing (more money = better average health before birth = better average health for mother and child after birth), and more knowledgeable (less likely for anything to go wrong after birth).

I was the accident, my brother was on purpose. She always wanted to have kids, but started earlier than she planned on. Would have had more, but was worried she wouldn't be able to give us all the attention we needed with more than 2. Ended up with 3 basically, considering my father died when I was 7 and she met my step-father, who had a 3 year old daughter, when I was 8.

your mom sounds pretty cool. my point was more that birth control wouldn't have helped much if she had kids on purpose.

besides, most insurance plans already cover birth control. this whole stupid fucking issue is actually a non-issue because it is about legislation that forces employers of religious institutions to cover birth control on their plans. almost all of them do already, even for catholic institutions because boilerplate health insurance plans just cover birth control pills. they are absolutely dirt cheap and save insurance companies so much money in the long run that it is stupid.

so once again, your federal government is wasting god knows how much of their time and effort over something that is completely meaningless in almost every definition of the word. and the 24 hour news channels are falling all over themselves to cover it because covering politics is dirt cheap for them and they can generate 100s of hours of content for basically the cost of paying their anchors.

How's this for an argument?
The total fertility rate in the United States estimated for 2009 is 2.01 children per woman, which is below the replacement fertility rate of approximately 2.1
The United States doesn't even pump out enough babies to replace the population. We are at negative growth if you don't count immigration.

Your argument assumes that population growth is a positive. 5000 years ago? Sure. Now, with mechanization and gerontology and all the other benefits of modern, post-industrial society, I think that stand needs to be reevaluated.

Unless all you're worried about is replacing the poor drones we send to die in the desert so rich cocksuckers like yourself can get 0.001% richer every year.

The US population isn't growing due to too many child births in country. Our country isn't overpopulated (thats' why people bitch so much and complain about closing our borders since we need lettuce pickers from Mexico). Immigration is another story but that would be due to population in other countries. The U.S. is lucky enough to usually get the more intelligent immigrants which also plays in our favor for population control.

Stewart and Colbert had pretty funny takes last night on the giant bag of shit we call Rush Limbaugh.

As others have said, I would think that insurance companies would be tripping over themselves to provide contraceptive coverage without any prodding from the government. My wife and I have had two daughters in the last 3 years. The hospital where we delivered both has charged our insurance company over $115,000 dollars for the two births. Both were via c-section, but neither had any added complications or required hospital stays beyond the minimum required. Vaginal births might have shaved 10k or so off the total - maybe.

You can buy a lot of birth control for $115k.

If you ever look at an insurance bill, they charge your insurance massive amounts but a huge amount of that is waived and not paid by the insurance company.

I had a recent test. It was about 800.00. I paid about 15.00. My insurance paid about 200.00. The rest of it vanished into la la land.

The crime is that uninsured people are charged the full 800.00.

Yes, I'm aware of that, but in this case there's not a lot of space between what was charged and what was paid by our insurance company. I'd be more specific, but I don't have the docs in front of me. Lets say they only paid half of the total amounts billed (they actually paid much more than that, but for the sake of argument, lets go with it). Contraceptives are still a much cheaper option.

It wouldn't have made much of a difference in our case because we were trying to get pregnant both times, but there's no shortage of unintended pregnancies in this country.

Abortion is pretty cheap too. A lot less than the amount quoted for birth control pills.

Sometimes I think everyone, both male and female, should be sterilized while young. Then, in order to procreate you would have to meet a set of criteria and pass a few basic classes on child care. Yeah, yeah, I know I just wrote the outline for a dystopian future based movie, but it works in theory!

Many people should not be breeding. People tend to not think things out for long term or be willing to put a child's needs front and center. I see it over and over and over working in a hospital. It's heartbreaking.

I think it is retarded that people are fighting so hard against this. Honestly, why the hell would anyone be against insurance covering contraception? We have TOO MANY PEOPLE IN THE WORLD.

How's this for an argument?
The total fertility rate in the United States estimated for 2009 is 2.01 children per woman, which is below the replacement fertility rate of approximately 2.1
The United States doesn't even pump out enough babies to replace the population. We are at negative growth if you don't count immigration.

What is your point? We have too many people in the world today. We don't need to reach critical overpopulation levels before we stop pumping out kids. Of course, that issue isn't something the U.S. alone can control. We have been doing a pretty good job, and birth control only helps, but there are many countries where families are still having 3-20 kids per couple. However, that is a different discussion completely.

That is the best course of action, IMO, but I don't see it happening any time soon. People would be up in arms about that, and the method would have to have at least like a 99% success rate on the reversal. It seems like it would be pretty hard to completely turn off the reproductive ability of a child that is still developing without a serious chance at permanent damage. Of course, if we manage to perfect a few life extension methods that are being worked on right now, we may all have to be temporarily sterilized so we don't completely cover the world within 50 years.

The people who are against giving people birth control are even more against abortion.

My point is overpopulation is a non issue within the United States. There are localized issues (uneducated or lack of education on the subject)

Addressing insurance coverage of contraceptives in countries that actually have a positive growth rate due to childbirth might be more helpful. Abortion and after-you-screw-up-and have-unprotected-sex death pills are options as well.

Plenty of great people come from shitty parents. Then you have sexual deviants who steal everything and contribute nothing to society financially or culturally, like Winnow, who may have had decent parents. This is a pretty dumb idea.

Depends on how you're using the term :)

In men it can be done in reversible and non- manners. Women too I suppose but never looked. Reversible stands a higher chance of it eventually correcting itself (iirc).

The US needs some level of sustained population growth to thrive, an immigration policy similar to Canuckias' would be a good step. We need more "smart guys", if you've education that benefits Canada they're more than happy to have you. For others with no money and\or no education it's quite a bit more difficult.

All we really need is a viable guest worker program that includes exemptions from minimum wage requirements. BigAgro will never let that happen because then they'd have to declare and cover workmans comp, which even when coupled with the lower wage levels is still more than the nothing they pay right now.

Likely cheaper than the crops rotting in the field that we have now as they've scared all the migrant workers out.

Take a ride out around Bartow, Sebring or Wauchula. The third world ghettos that aren't empty are even more impoverished appearing, looks like something out of SW Asia.

Globalization and consumer demand for rock bottom food prices is also a factor in how much a farmer can pay their pickers. It's alright to blame the farmer to not hire regular people and pay them a living wage, but they can't when they are competing against produce producers (lololo) from other countries, who can sell apples to piggly wiggly at 50 cents a ton because they pay their day laborers 12 cents an hour. You can't have literally 100x the labor costs and expect grocery stores to buy your produce at a price that keeps your farm solvent.

There is no way american farms can compete without undocumented labor.

Unless we make it legal to bring in the Mexicans in the interests of both the free market (merika, fuck yeah) and maintaining some semblance of national self-sufficiency in our food supply. But the politifucks can't have that because that would involve 1. admitting that they were wrong and 2. doing something that helps brown people.

The pill is used for health reasons, it is not just used for contraception. This whole thing really should be a non issue because of that point.

It appears, in this case, insurance coverage was requested to prevent unwanted pregnancy. If it's for other medical reasons, that would be a separate consideration.
