Phoenix Dust Storm

Post by Winnow »

PHOENIX (AP)

National Weather Service meteorologist Charlotte Dewey said they are still trying to get exact measures from satellite and radar to figure out how big the dust storm was, but they estimate it was more than a mile high and more than 100 miles wide.

She said winds from separate thunderstorms in the eastern and southern parts of the state collided in the dry air between Phoenix and Tucson to create the wall of dust. The storm also hit the Yuma area and far western Arizona.
Yesterday evening we had an epic dust storm. This one lasted for like an hour. Typically they blow through in a few minutes.

Some pics (unless they red-x, in which case this is the lamest thread ever!)

gnarly! A little rain mixed in with that dirt made most uncovered cars caked with mud, unable to drive. Even paradise has its bad days!

Here's a time lapse video of it:

Lol. Phoenix is far from paradise. Not even close. Treasure Island is paradise!

Pretty sweet pics. A buddy of mine had some nice shots from his house as well. However, it makes me want to donate trees to those that live in states with no trees. :(

I don't see any face in there. I'm guessing Brendan Fraser was nowhere in the vicinity.

Although it is interesting seeing all those cars continue to drive when there is a wall of sand headed right for them.

Watch this redneck's video of the storm.

Feel free to skip through the footage as the guy is mostly yelling at his kids he's let on the roof even though this massive dust storm is approaching. It gets so dark after the dust hits.

Used to see these blow in all of the time when I lived in Lubbock. It was eerie when everything was almost silent before they hit.

Amazing people driving in that crap, pure death to a car even if you don't run into someone\something as you can't see.

Saw a few in UAE, what a nasty mess afterwards. They tried to wash the ship down with firehoses after the first one, gave that idea up as all it did was make gritty mud :). Give it a day or two and it blows away by itself.
