Actually, you know what, I think I've just had an epiphany. For me, it's not about politics, it's about intelligence. I hated Bush because he was an imbecile, and I feel similarly about Sarah Palin for the same reason. I liked Clinton because he was smart, and I like Obama for the same reason. You put up a smarter Republican candidate vs. a Democrat who is on par with Bush or Palin and I would most likely vote Republican (unless it was a rocket scientist that was too crazy-religious, but that's a an oxymoron these days, right?).

In my mind, the hierarchy of power should be based on intelligence. My boss should be smarter than me, his boss should be smarter than him, and the President should be smarter than all of us. Yet somehow during the last Presidential election cycle (possibly before, I wasn't always paying attention) "smart" and "elite" became pejorative terms and for whatever reason a scary-big number of people in this country decided that being President and being a Subway Sandwich Artist took the same qualifications. I'm pretty sure we might see President Larry the Cable Guy in 2016.

Intelligence is a must in politics but not necessarily for the figurehead. Biden is useless which makes both President and VP a waste instead of just the top spot in this administration. Other countries knew who was running things back in the W Bush era. If Cheney will casually shoot a friend in the face with a shotgun, you can be damn sure you're going to get worse if you're heading up some axis of evil country. Look at Libya. Omar Kadafi turned into a complete pussy after we steamrolled Afghanistan and Iraq. These little country dictators flap their jaws but shut the hell up when the U.S. steamroller starts up its engine. I'm not so sure that will happen with Obama/Biden. These guys are busy watching their party fall apart, preparing their fancy speeches to dupe the American voters again in 2012. It's not going to work this time because now Obama can't fill people's heads with fantasies. They can see he's been inept. Time to get back to business getting this country out of a recession/depression while all Obama can does is spend more money.
