Palin is resigning

Post by Spang »

I'm happier than a priest at a daycare.
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will resign

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Alaska Governor Sarah Palin said on Friday she will resign this month and will not run for re-election as governor.

"I'm not seeking re-election," Palin told a news conference at which she said she would transfer authority to Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell.

Palin was Republican presidential candidate John McCain's vice presidential running mate in last year's election and rallied the party's conservative base. There has been speculation that she would seek to be the Republican Party's presidential candidate in 2012.

"We know we can effect positive change outside government at this moment in time," she said.

Palin said her decision came after much "prayer and consideration." She did not want to waste time on "political blood sport" and cited public criticism of her actions and her family since the 2008 campaign.

Imagine if she somehow would've been elected VP. It's good to know she can't take the heat now instead of finding out when it really matters.

Can you say scandal incoming? Resigning before the 4:th of july and not answering questions. Either a Palin sextape has been made or she's been spending taxpayer money on crack.

Do you honestly think she's just going to go away? I'd rather have her up there running Alaska where she's out of the way and we don't hear that much. Unfortunately that will be changing.

The sad thing is that so do a lot of republicans.

If she or anyone thinks this would help her in a run for president, they're seriously mistaken. It will backfire as badly as McCain's 'gonna stop campaigning and go fix the country' stunt. She's now a quitter.

I may not like some people on VV, but I'm somewhat confident there's nobody here that honestly thinks she'd make a good president (or even VP).

I just keep thinking that there is one good reason to do this... if you're not going to run again, why not give your lieutenant governor a years on-the-job experience and a leg up in the next election?

During the end of the campaign, I swear I would go to sleep and wake up with "Joe Six Pack" and "Hockey Moms" echoing in Palin's voice through my head like a broken record. I would wake up and immediately think "Joe Six Pack" and "Hockey Moms" and punch myself in the groin. I may have PTSD.

So if she actually was elected president of the US, does that mean halfway into her second term she'd resign to give her VP some on-the-job experience too?

I can see Fash is trying to look for a positive (facetiously?), and while I might think the people of Alaska are better off without her running their state, she's setting a bad precedent. If she's too stupid to realize it then I hope she does carry through and thoroughly embarass herself with a presidential bid.

after reading a fairly lengthy article in the NYTimes yesterday (OMG BIAS!) I agree with their assessment. this is not a ploy in hopes of running for president. I confidently believe now that she has no intention of running for president. Her resignation was a direct reaction to the spotlight, scrutiny and avalanche of lawyer bills created as soon as she accepted McCain's invitation to join his campaign.

I mean think about it, she's become this politics diva. She'd do better on the lecture circuit, reality tv show and crappy books racket where she can get in no trouble for saying the retarded BS she spouts almost pathologically. she was facing financial problems. though generating hundreds of thousands in donations to her PAC and legal defense fund, she could not use that money to help her family out. her husband retained the shitty oil field job he had when she was just a councilwoman in Wasilla, and it should be noted she has a special needs child. in the end she just couldn't take it anymore.

here's a link to the article. read it if you have 20 mins to kill. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/13/us/po ... lin&st=cse

i actually kind of felt sorry for her. then I remembered "Joe Six Pack" and "Hockey Moms" and that now iconic wink. needless to say, I punched myself in the groin. I may need therapy.

I know next to nothing about her but she can't be the idiot she allowed her party and the press make her out to be. Regardless of your thoughts on her brand of Christianity.

I still don't think the republicans had any intention of winning the election, they'd have had to do a major direction shift to do so and they need a few more spankings before they'll be willing to do that. They're still busy waving their hands shouting "We're not democrats!", hoping to scare people. Parading Cheney around right now is like taking David Duke to an NAACP meeting.

I'm guessing irrelevancy for ~5 more years is their lot, then they'll retake congress and the pendulum will swing again.

Disregarding the electoral college game which the democrats played very well (as did Bush in 2000), it wasn't a landslide election regardless.

I wrote a song for Sarah Palin:

And I'm proud to be a fake American
Where at least I know I'm elite
And I won't forget Sarah "Quitter" Palin
Who gave that title to me

And I proudly stand up, next to you
And congratulate her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt Alaska's better off
Without her running that state
Make love, fuck war, peace will save us.

The Young Turks sum up my feelings pretty well. Why can't network news channels be this clear when discussing things?!? Spot on commentary.

The first 5 minutes is the gist, the rest is just color commentary (but still great).

Barack\Biden, Democratic
Popular - 52.87%
Electoral - 67.8%
McCain\Palin, Republican
Popular - 45.60%
Electoral - 32.2%
Nader\Gonzalez, Independent
Popular - 0.56%
Electoral - 0 0.0%

Regardless, he won the election, he's the president and I'll support him until he gives me reason not to (not that it means a lot). In this arena opposing someone just because they're the opposition is stupid, the two parties and their hangers on are so entrenched in the us vs. them that the real goal isn't considered much of the time.

My attitude continues to be "tentatively optimistic", he's done well so far with the plate he was served.

This should be required study for die hard supporters of both sides, portrays them very well. It's funny but not really satire, could almost call it documentary:

He won Virginia, Indiana, and North Carolina. He even won part of Nebraska. He won the electoral vote 365-173. Maybe "landslide" isn't quite the right word, as Presidential elections have tended to be blowouts until the recent past, but it's a substantial beating, bigger than the thumping that JFK put on Richard Nixon. It's especially impressive given the current polarized partisan climate.

In the Senate, the Democrats did not lose a single seat. Not one. The extended their advantage to 59-41 (prior to Specter's switch) and defeated incumbents in previously solidly Republican states like Alaska and North Carolina, as well as winning an open seat in Virginia. They also managed to get Al Fucking Franken elected.

In the House, the Democrats lost only five seats, some of them held by guys with scummy histories (William Jefferson, Tim Mahoney) and others in hugely Republican districts that Democrats previously only controlled due to random luck (Don Cazayoux, Nancy Boyda). They gained 26 seats, including wins (sometimes more than one) in Idaho, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, Alabama and Arizona.

I guess whether it's a 'landslide' is a matter of semantics, but it was certainly an ass-beating.

I predict she'll end up with her own radio show, something focused more on caller comments than her own comments. She'll give out recipes for cornbread and moose stew between incomprehisible sound bites of country "wisdom." She's have a loyal following who will eat up every word she says and stoke her ego with every call.

But that will be after the book deal.
