Iran in the 70's
Re: Iran in the 70's
And yet despite these lovely pictures the majority of the population were still unhappy enough to support an Islamic revolution.
I wonder why.
I wonder why.

But everyone is happier and prettier in a US backed dictatorship!

Some of the Iranian women have nice stems. Can't see them with the current regime!
Re: Iran in the 70's
If you haven't seen it, I recommend the movie Persepolis, which is based on the autobiographical graphic novel (that sounds so redundant) about a girl growing up during the culture change.
Re: Iran in the 70's
Saddam had rosy pictures created as well...
It was a puppet government setup by the US and Britian to get us cheap oil, they had death squad as bad as the KGB and there is no record of how many people died at their hands...
This is a dream world of the Iran of the 70s... it was probably this for American tourist but not for the average person.
Don't get me wrong the revolution had their death squads as well but...
Marb
PS - Xyun, you going to chime in on this, what are your thoughts?

Re: Iran in the 70's
Despite the Shah's iran being a dictatorship it was heaps better then the current one.
Ideally the country wouldve fared the best under Mosaddeq, wich was the countrys only democratically elected president.
You can thank the Eisenhower administration ( Wow, a republican, who wouldve thunk it ) for the removal of Mosaddeq and the reinstallment of the Shah regime tho. ( Wich pretty much fueled antiwestern sentiments and paved the way for the islamic revolution )
Furor, what are your thoughts on this?
