I see Clinton downplaying caucus wins. What exactly goes on at a causus?
A primary is straight up voting and a causus is like a convention?

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
Obama beats her up this weekend and she cans her campaign manager and brings in Maggie Williams.
Hmmmm. Wonder where she's going here.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
Pretty much Forthe.
In a caucus they get groups together in a room and make you play diplomacy and any "non-viable" (less than x% support) candidates get the boot and those supporters have to decide who else to side with.
Primary = straight up vote, which may then be used to decide what percentage of delegates to award or (in some states) who gets all the delegates.
I prefer the division of delegates from a straight up vote myself, as it ends up being more representative of the electorate in general.
Mind you, there's still some concept of wheeling and dealing at the convention, and I'd imagine there often is when it's close.

Interesting...
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld ... k=ntothtmlColin Powell wrote:Powell, a Republican, praised Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.
"I think he's been an exciting person on the political stage," Powell said on CNN's "Late Edition." "He has energized a lot of people in America; he has energized a lot of people around the world."
Powell backed Obama's proposal to open talks with Iran -- a key difference with Obama's opponent, New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton -- saying it was important to engage with leaders of states in conflict with U.S. policies.
"You have to talk to folks that you may not necessarily like, and you can't put down impossible preconditions for conversations," said Powell in a clear reference to Clinton, who has said she would not open discussions with antagonists without ground rules.
"You can't say, 'Give me what I want before I will talk to you,' " Powell said. "That doesn't work. It won't work with Syria; it won't work with Iran."

Yeah, last I heard he was about 150 delegates ahead (50 after supers) and they were in a dead heat in Texas. This is after she has been campaigning in Texas for quite some time and he is just starting. Few weeks ago she had a big lead.

First, I've got to give the USA props; I had no idea USAdians (as a whole) were so evolved. You are surprising a lot of people up here.
Second, Clinton is making this very entertaining. It is like watching a trainwreck about to happen.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
About the TX primary: Austin (hugely pro-Obama) gets more delegates than Houston, Dallas and San Antonio individually. This is based on past voter turnout in 2006 and 2004 where Austin dwarfed these much larger cities.
If that's not complicated enough, 15 minutes after polls close there are "precinct conventions," which, from my understanding, resemble little caucuses at your local polling station.
Of TX's 228 delegates:
126 in general election
35 super delegates (most undecided, though more who have said Clinton than Obama. I wonder if they can change their vote?)
67 delegates decided through precinct, district and state conventions ... which comes from some long convoluted process originating from the "precinct conventions."
From personal experience, Mexicans hate blacks, though the few I know are voting Obama. I think they might hate white women too.
and I get to go to the debate tomorrow yay

Have there been any developments with Edwards giving his support to either candidate? I wouldn't imagine he'd go for a sinking ship (Clinton), but if he does I'd lose all respect for him because I'd know he did it for the money.

Edwards hasn't endorsed.
In general, the taller candidate wins.
In general, the better looking candidate wins.
Texans: Vote for Obama! Twice!

The more I see of Obama the more I'm reminded of Hilary, I liked him initially. He's just as much of a party stooge as she is, with a slightly different spin on the same song she's singing. One difference is he'll blow the first two years in office prior to getting down to (realistic) business, like Bill Clinton did in his first term.

Re: Obama WILL be the next president
On the other hand if you're popular with the public, and can get them interested and behind your objectives, then you make anyone that opposes you look like a jackass to the public. The public votes these people into office (theoretically) and they need to keep them happy.
Example: Obama wants to pass a law that says children should be allowed to eat Fruit Loops. Gets public to agree that yes, kids should be allowed to eat Fruit Loops. Senator votes against kids being allowed to eat Fruit Loops. Public demonizes anti-Fruit Loop communist. Senator commits suicide after binging on Fruit Loops and losing election. Clinton then makes speech saying she supported Fruit Loops all along. Really.

Obama is easily the most able candidate to restore a sense of pride in the United States from within and a sense of respect from outside.
McCain is....well, he's a hypocrite, so in what sense is he worth voting for?

And McCain doesn't like Fruit Loops.
Re: Obama WILL be the next president
After hearing Barak H Obama say that unfounded attacks on character, loads of hyperbole, and fallacious information are the best way to make a point, I felt that someone needed to write a dissenting opinion. Let's review the errors in his statements in order. First, he is a scavenger of human misery. This is not Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia, where the state would be eager to brand me as obstreperous. Not yet, at least. But he is the picture of the insane person on the street, babbling to a tree, a wall, or a cloud, which cannot and does not respond to his catch-phrases.
Perverted clunks create a regime of quasi-quixotic particularism. That said, we mustn't lose sight of who the real enemy is: Barak H Obama and his unsympathetic worshippers. If history follows its course, it should be evident that if I didn't sincerely believe that where there is an excess of power there will always be an abuse of power, then I wouldn't be writing this letter. Obama argues that my bitterness at him is merely the latent projection of libidinal energy stemming from self-induced anguish. I wish I could suggest some incontrovertible chain of apodictic reasoning that would overcome this argument, but the best I can do is the following: Objective consideration of his heinous, debauched contrivances compels the conclusion that those who get involved with his backwards followers are seldom aware of his dealings with libidinous publishers of hate literature. Regular readers of my letters probably take that for granted, but if I am to bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to the current debate, I must explain to the population at large that we must indubitably provide an atmosphere of mutual respect, free from escapism, blackguardism, and all other forms of prejudice and intolerance. Does that sound extremist? Is it too beastly for you? I'm sorry if it seems that way but that's life.
If I didn't think Obama would weave his ultra-prolix traits, sick comments, and jackbooted platitudes into a rich tapestry that is sure to arouse inter-ethnic suspicion, I wouldn't say that he has done inestimable damage to everything around him. That concept can be extended, mutatis mutandis, to the way that my general thesis is that I have a New Year's resolution for Obama: He should pick up a book before he jumps to the querulous conclusion that honesty and responsibility have no cash value and are therefore worthless. I'll talk a lot more about that later, but first let me finish my general thesis: He has stated that his opinions represent the opinions of the majority -- or even a plurality. That's just pure diabolism. Well, in Obama's case, it might be pure ignorance, seeing that if Obama were to get his hands on the levers of power he'd immediately legitimize the fear and hatred of the privileged for the oppressed. If you don't believe me then consider that when I first became aware of his covert invasion into our thought processes, all I could think was how he says that "the truth", "the whole truth", and "nothing but the truth" are three different things. This is noxious falsehood. The truth is that on a television program last night, I heard one of this country's top scientists conclude that, "We have not only a right but also a responsibility to keep our courage up." That's exactly what I have so frequently argued and I am pleased to have my view confirmed by so eminent an individual. Before you read this letter, you might have thought that the media should "create" news rather than report it. Now you know that one need not look any further than Barak H Obama's sniffish insults to see that I challenge Obama to admit he was wrong and thereby begin the healing process.
And thats all I have to say about that.

Yes, and please keep putting the "H" in there. That way, you can get away with calling attention to his middle name Hussein, without actually calling attention to it! Well done to whatever idiot wrote that diatribe of idiocy.

Guns? Absence of religion? Lack of self-esteem? Poor parenting? The entertainment industry? Who's to blame for Kalduar's squalid nostrums? Numerous professionals (and not-so-professionals) have speculated and mulled, publicly and privately, over what has caused Kalduar to convert houses of worship into houses of collectivism. Before I get moving here, let me point out that he has so frequently lied about how ebola, AIDS, mad-cow disease, and the hantavirus were intentionally bioengineered by annoying imbeciles for the purpose of population reduction that some weaker-minded people are starting to believe it. We need to explain to such people that if you look soberly and carefully at the evidence all around you, you will obviously find that mass anxiety is the equivalent of steroids for Kalduar. If we feel helpless, Kalduar is energized and ramps up his efforts to interfere with my efforts to stand by our principles and be true to them on all occasions, in all places, against all foes, and at whatever cost. In closing, please remember that my ultimate goal is to help young people develop the ability to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world. If I advance, follow me. If I stop, urge me on. If I retreat, kill me.

I would rather discuss the merits / flaws of neoliberal economics or the benefits / costs of climate change inaction with Mid, Funk and Fash than talk about anything with this supertard Noysy. Jesus fucking Christ what a useless shitcock.
That is all.

Interesting... I find betting markets to be a great indicator of what will happen.
Current odds at the moment:
Barack Obama 1.73
John McCain 2.85
Hillary Clinton 7.50
I still think McCain is good value at 2.85 though.

Guevara, Che (1928–67)
Biography
Revolutionary leader. Born Ernesto Guevara de la Serna on June 14, 1928, in Rosario, Argentina. After completing his medical studies at the University of Buenos Aires, Guevara became political active first in his native Argentina and then in neighboring Bolivia and Guatemala. In 1954, he met Cuban revolutionary Fidel Castro and his brother Raul while in Mexico.
Guevara became part of Fidel Castro's efforts to overthrow the Batista government in Cuba. He served as a military advisor to Castro and led guerrilla troops in battles against Batista forces. When Castro took power in 1959, Guevara became in charge of La Cabaña Fortress prison. It is estimated that between 156 and 550 people were executed on Guevara's extra-judicial orders during this time.
Later, he became president of the Cuban national bank and helped to shift the country's trade relations from the United States to the Soviet Union. Three years later, he was appointed minister of industry. Guevara left this post in 1965 to export the ideas of Cuba's revolution to other parts of the world. In 1966, he began to try to incite the people of Bolivia to rebel against their government, but had little success. With only a small guerrilla force to support his efforts, Guevara was captured and killed in La Higuera by the Bolivian army on October 9, 1967.
Since his death, Guevara has become a legendary political figure. His name is often equated with rebellion, revolution, and socialism. Others, however, still remember that he could be ruthless and ordered prisoners executed without trial in Cuba. Guevara's life continues to be a subject of great public interest and been explored and portrayed in numerous books and films, including The Motorcycle Diaries (2004).
