The Truth!

Post by Metanis »

No, I don't have the inside track on the Truth. Nope, I sure don't.

But when I look at the bullshit you guys are fed by the news sources you deem trustworthy and when I see how little critical judgement you possess I simply conclude the world is entering a new Dark Ages.

Most of you like it that way. In fact most of you remind me of cattle. Incurious. Plodding. Docile. Placid. Too stupid to step out of bounds. Too comfortable chewing the regurgitated scraps of some cause-of-the-day.

Maybe it won't matter in the long run, but I just don't see how a society can function when the information upon which it depends cannot be trusted.

Examples abound but with your closed minds I won't bother to try and cite them. You won't pay any attention anyway.

I am however inclined to note a semi-famous quote. One of Superman's signature lines was "... for Truth, Justice, and the American Way".

I really think that line inspired a generation of journalists. However they were inspired by the notion of social justice. 50 to 70 years ago no one considered that Truth itself could be assaulted successfully.

So the whole journalistic world view became focused on agenda journalism and basic reporting took a back seat to righting wrongs and standing up for the underdog. I mean there was nothing inherently wrong in fighting to make the world a better place. But the idea of Truth as an important element in society began to wane.

The truth became secondary. There was no big conspiracy to undermine the truth, it simply wasn't considered to be something that could be subverted. But gradually over time, with no one to stand up for it, the truth started to become elastic and slippery. I'm not talking religion here at all, not pushing any theology. I'm pointing at the slop you are fed daily in nearly every newspaper and on every TV set and every radio broadcast.

I'm sorry but the X-Files was wrong... the Truth is NOT out there. There are Agenda's and Talking Points, nothing more. Yes, even Rush and Sean have joined the herd. I'm not claiming any special insights for conservative talking heads.

So that's where you boys find yourselves. You seem to enjoy a world where truth isn't an important factor. You certainly don't seem to have any facility in recognizing it. Good luck raising your families and trying to stay on the politically correct side of the cultural divide. A few of you show some promise, perhaps that flash of insight will strike and you'll suddenly realize a thing or two... ...Nah... never happen with this crowd.

Are you trying to say there was no agenda 50 to 70 years ago? You mean you are sad that our government does not have more control over the information that is disseminated to the public?

The news media is horrible today. I agree. They sensationalize everything for a fast buck, higher ratings and more ad dollars, but there is also an underlying independence that we have today that was never available back then. Yes every news organization, Church, Government Agency and company has an agenda and anyone who listens to any of those groups and takes everything they say at face value gets what they deserve, but to claim the old tyme days were great is just stupid.

Everything sounds great in hindsight. That first kiss seems so romantic, the first girl you dated seemed so much hotter then she was and the simple days when we could listen to news and not want to question it seems wonderful, but do you really think it was better?

Do you also wish for the days when cigarette smoke and alcohol didn't really kill you; This is directly from an ad in a magazine years ago.
A responsible consulting organization reports a study by a competent medical specialist and staff on the effects of smoking Chesterfields...

'It is my opinion that the ears, nose, throat and accessory organs of all participating subjects examined by me were not adversely affected in the six-months period by smoking the cigarettes provided."
So keep your nostalgia, I hate the news today, but it was not any better back then, just more controlled for your viewing and listening pleasure.

Typical Metanis statement. Well, when he isn't plagarizing someone else. "Here is what I think. I will not say why I think this or attempt to prove my statements with any kind of evidence be it fact or even theory, or even any type of supporting thought whatsoever. And when pressed to, I will just ignore or abandon thread to start another one."

At least you're reaching critical mass again with a stupid thread like this and will leave for another 6 months.

Hay guys, i'm going to post something about how Christians control the milk supply to see if i can give him that one last little nudge into "alcohol-soaked screaming man with a sandwich board on the street corner" mode.

Met, if you'd studied American history at all you'd realize the current situation is normal for the US. Even mild compared to some other points in our history. One of the big benefits of our system (as designed) is we'll never have a really dark totalitarian period, but since people are people we'll never really have a golden age either as greedy bastards and those with other agendas strive for more personal power.

People are sheep for the most part, they want to be told something in black and white that makes them feel better. Truth makes fanatics of any sort happy as well. Regardless of what reality is telling either.

I find it ironic that you blast the media, yet all posts that you've made in the last 2 weeks have been agreeing with something in the media that fits your world views.

Aside from the frequent flames, the lot of people here are really good at dessiminating fact from bullshit and independant thought.

The OP sounds like cut-and-pasted crap from somewhere - not from The Real Metanis.

Any time now he's going to come here and reveal he copied it from a rant by "some loony lib" and your attacks on him reveal your foolishness mua, mua, muahahahahahahaaaaa! etc.

Truth in this world Met is a continum, there is NO Truth with a capital "T" when it comes to man, everything is relative to some degree. If you are looking for that, get over it because you are NOT going to find it, anywhere, ever.

There are small truths though and those are what we have to cling to while investigating the rest to try and determine it's validity.

There is only 1 Truth, and I believe you know what That is, knowing That you should also know why the statements above are accurate in regards to this world.

But we are to be here to set an example, take care of those in need and do the best we can to be like Him. Don't get His message confused with that of the conservative propaganda machine or falliable men who put their agenda's first.

Marb

PS - Heh, and don't confuse me with being perfect or correct all the time either, take my thoughts for what they are, the best understanding that I have at the moment. :)

Not sure I've ever said this here, but when I rant about "Christians" I mentally exclude the real ones like Marb who actually are exemplars of what is good in religion. Not, mind you that I agree with you about the Truth Marb... 8) ...But I respect your decency and humanity.

Hi Metanis. You sound like you've had a rough day. Do you want some ice cream or a soda? Would that make you feel better? I knew it would.

ya rly!

Since when has the "truth" been taken for granted in politics and the media that is covering it?
Can you see the truth better than everyone else, Metanis? What do you have that makes you better to see the truth?
What measures do you take to verify that media is broadcasting the truth?
Is it based on your values, and perspective? Do you even attempt to see it from different views?
I'm curious. Moooooo!

Go back to sleep, Lizard! That was stolen from an old Furor rant, and has nothing to do with all the mad cows up here, or any Swedishisms.

I'm curios how you view the truth! The truth is a very hard thing to explain objectively and keep it out from your own values. So how do you see the truth better than the rest of us?

That's the point. I want an argument, because that is left out in his first post. I want an answer to how he's more capable to judge the truth about what's going on in the world, since we get the "truth" from media.
Give me a reasonable argument, or keep on trollin'.
