MP3 Players

Post by Dregor Thule »

Just curious what everyones MP3 player of choice is. I use Winamp 2.0, I like the skinning and the simplicity of it. I don't like how it's got memory leaks out the ying-yang it seems. Didn't care much for Winamp 3.0, seemed to be trying to do too much.

So what other options are there out there?

My MP3 player of choice is the audiotron ( http://www.audiotron.net ). It's pretty nice, digital audio out, and streams anything you have shared on a windows share. Also supports net radio as well, and will take feeds from Winamp if you so choose. I don't pipe anything out of my computer except video game sounds.

If I am going to listen to something on the computer, I just tend to use Windows Media Player, as I never got around to installing winamp again since I got my audiotron. Usually I just listen to make sure the rip I did was error free.

Get it while you can!
Winamp was there? NOT FOR LONG: It's gonna be silenced forever
Media player to be withdrawn and all its websites with it in one month

The latest version of Winamp, released on Wednesday, will be the last, with the venerable media-playing software scheduled to all but vanish from the internet next month.

"Winamp.com and associated web services will no longer be available past December 20, 2013," reads a notice posted to the Winamp website on Wednesday. "Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be available for download."

Winamp was launched in 1997 by developer Justin Frankel via his company, Nullsoft, and it quickly became one of the most popular media players for Windows. AOL acquired Nullsoft two years later, and the company has operated as an AOL subsidiary since then.

There's a rumor that Microsoft might buy it from AOL. Eh.. Just let it die!
