I just watched season one episodes 3-10 over the past few days in preparation for Monday. Amazing how freaking good this show is. I'm so tempted to pick up the second book or audiobook but will stick with the video series at least for season 2. If it remains as good as it has been, and I don't anticipate it dropping off in quality, I'll be forced to hit other media formats to see what happens. Can't wait another year!

I was going to hold off until they all aired.. But stupid Google News is filled with spoilers every time I scroll down so figured that probably wouldn't last long.

Ep 01 was decent. Wolves have grown a wee bit!

I thought S02E01 "The North Remembers" was a solid start to the second season.

Watching a 1 hours episodes of Game of Thrones feels like 2 hours which is a good thing. There's a lot going on.

For the length of time Jaime Lannister's been bound to a pole by his neck after being pretty beat up, I hope he doesn't spring up and fight someone after all is said and done. This guy would be a complete mess and be barely able to stand for awhile. Will wait and see how it's handled by the author!

This is one of those "travel" episodes, where they wanted to have all characters do a little something so people could refresh themselves with the different arcs. Not my favorite, but it did an ok job of catching folks up.

I ended up watching it again, and it worked for me a bit more. I'd expect condensed action and plot forwarding to ramp up quite a bit. There is a lot of territory to cover!

I agree, although the book front-loaded so hardcore with Davos that I had a hard time cutting through it.

Also, Davos does not look right--I imagined a Viggo Mortensen-like actor.

Liam Cunningham is playing Davos. He is an excellent fookin' actor on the Irish scene, so I'm really looking forward to seeing him played. The changes from the book were more pronounced in this episode, which I hope does not signal a new change in artistic direction from the team. However, it was a bit necessary to do so, considering the differences in medium. As Canelek said, this was about reminding the audience who people were and where they are. Looking forward to seeing Arya next week, as I'm sure that we'll get some Hot Pie dialogue. That can only make the episode an 11 on the cool scale.

Am I the only one who does a little happy dance every time Peter Dinklage opens his mouth? This season is Tyrion's season, and I'm really looking forward to it.

That guy is awesome. I don't know what he's supposed to be like in the book but he's by far the most entertaining character in the TV series.

Also, hot pie dialogue? No spoilers!

Yes, Dinkelage is absolutely perfect as Tyrion.

Hot Pie is one of the kids going to The Wall along with Arya. There should be some amusing dialogue if they spend much time on the Crow Caravan.

Seems to be commonplace in Westeros!

Targaryens used to do it to not dillute their precious bloodline etc, trying to keep their bloodline "pure"
Had something to do with believing their blood to be controlling them dragons eh?

If you mean Theon Greyjoy, he clearly didn't know.

Regarding the Lannisters, well those two are probably special, they have a connection as deep as Winnow and Kyoukan.

The Wildling? Well, you know those winters sure can get cold up there.
Not many decent people up there either, you take what you can!

Season 2 is not really clicking with me yet. I realize it's based off a book but I really don't enjoy 5 minutes of each character's story an episode. It was basically the same problem I had with Heroes. There's just so many stories going on at once that they can't really devote a lot of time to a specific one. And when they do it seems to be scenes that most of the time don't interest me and much as some of the shorter ones in the episode.

I was hoping they would skip some story lines so the show didn't get to parsed, but they appear to be maximizing. But you're right, its a bit "thin" at 5 minutes at a time. I thought it would have been a better idea for the show to have less, so the books still retained a quality worth reading for those that watch the show first.

Re: Game of Thrones - Season 2

The flow of the story seems OK to me although I wouldn't count either of the last two episodes among my favorites. Even the worst of Game of Thrones blows the crap out of just about any other ongoing series right now.

You can't fault a story for being "epic" in size. If it was a movie, the little bits would suck, but its a TV series so you need to keep all parts flowing each week.

I like that the last two episodes have been pretty dark. There's not much hope anywhere except maybe for the Dragon lady near the end of S02E04. I don't like some of the turn of events but that's my problem. I didn't write it, I'm watching it. It's pretty grim.

There seems to be some supernatural forces heading for battle. Dragons vs Wolves vs Black Smoky thing vs Wildings.

I like the intrigue. The characters are multifaceted. There are plenty to hate and very few to like completely. I'll reserve judgement of the overall story until I get through book 5 whether it's the series, audiobook, or reading it.

It seems like they are getting the results they intended for the non-novel-fanboys (such as myself). Winnow, I think that pretty much sums it up as they intended. Hopefully, they continue to reward the "new" fans as well as keep the folks like me interested. It is certainly quite divergent in some places this season, and I am fine with that.I see far more complaints regarding The Walking Dead books vs series.

If HBO continues to produce this well, as well as doing a good job on the upcoming Dark Tower series fillers, I will almost forgive them for killing Deadwood. Almost.

deadwood petition? /signed! Never understood that move either.

But yes, GoT is near perfect in every facet when it comes to story telling and drama for a series. No doubt about it, its better than anything else on TV right now, but that's also helped by the shear fascination of the world with reality tv shows/contests. Network TV has given up on the drama show...unless its about doctors or CSI/NCIS/Law&Order. This makes it a little easy for a GoT setting, or a Battlestar setting to be loved for its creativity, because there is no competition. Obviously, the writing and acting must still be there, and both are fantastic for GoT. Peter Dinklage has made Tyrion a household name.

I don't think Peter Dinklage is the one who is making Tyrion a household name. While reading the books, I couldn't wait to get to the next Tyrion chapter. The character is a great one, always one step ahead of everyone.

I found season 1 to be pretty much spot on to the first book. Season 2 has been a bit different so far.

I wished they showed Arya kick some ass when they captured her. Right now, she's being shown as just a scared little girl when she should be a scared little girl who can do some damage.

Well, she was "a little mouse" during her entire time at Harrenhall. Keep in mind she didn't really get badass until Braavos. She does get empowered a bit when Jaquen gives her some retribution.
And Season 2 is way divergent from the novel! In a good way though.

Dinklage's portrayal of Tyrion for those that haven't read the book has absolutely made him the most popular char in the show, and a household name. Not the book. So many haven't read them yet.

Not sure if this is what they are doing, but it seems to me like every opening credits is a spoiler to where the episode will take place (or the story line). In the last episode, they showed King's Landing, Winterfell, Harrenhall, Pyke, Qarth, and the Wall. Anyone else notice this?

So I channeled my inner Winnow and stoled season 1 last week.

Despite my vow not to send another dime to that fat fuck, I had to buy a direwolf shirt from the HBO store.

Assuming His Fatness is able to finish the books and HBO doesn't lose their collective mind and cancel this, it's an easy day 1 blu ray box purchase. I am amazed at the casting of the Stark kids, and these kids are not Mannequin Skywalkers.

Most surprising way the series differs from the books, and I assure you no spoilers, is that I like Tywin Lannister. He's definitely a merciless bastard, but doesn't come off as pettily cruel as in the books. Charles Dance is doing good work in this series, behind only the Imp, and his scenes with Maisie Williams are fantastic.

Couldn't agree more, Masteen. Dance and Williams are doing an amazing job with every cupbearer scene they share. In the books it was Roose she served as cupbearer, but I'm okay with the change as this way we get some Tywin action. I think it's a necessary change, considering Tywin's character has to be stressed so a viewing audience understands how he works.

Imp down!

They should have went with 12 episodes instead of 10. I could see for Season 1 when they maybe didn't know how it would turn out or if people would watch it but it seems a lot to try and fit a book into 10 episodes.

Agreed. 10 episodes blows.

At least they crescendoed(sp) at Ep9 so we can get some more for the finale. But really, 10 is stupid. Hell, Storm of Swords is the biggest book of the lot so far, so even 12 will not cover all that ground.

The fight on water scene was just perfect. I was in awe while watching it. I was thinking about what needs to be wrapped up last night. Episode 10 will seem rushed I think.
