Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

Post by Canelek »

Kinda shocked not to see this topic, and even did a search...

I had heard all sorts of awesome things about this film directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz). It was a crappy day in Tahoe Sunday so we hopped over to the movie theater inside the Horizon Casino to give it a go (after a few drinks and video poker).

All I have to say is that it is the ultimate homage to 80s video game goodness (Zelda, Street Fighter, etc.). It is not a movie that tries to be a video game, or a video game that tries to be a movie. It is just awesome.

Scott Pilgrim is the bassist for a garage band in Toronto that finds the girl of his dreams (literally). In order to be with her, he must defeat her seven evil ex's (to the death). During these encounters, it basically turns into a stylized throwback to the aforementioned games, and then some. It is simply beautiful and hilarious.

There are a few quasi-weak story lines including his brief relationship with a crazy 17 year old girl named Knives, but really do not detract from the main theme. It is a really kickass flick!

Is everything based on a comic these days? Sheesh! :P

Well, it is a good movie and well worth the price of admission.

In order to make a movie you need to create story boards. Comics gift wrap it for them by having the story boards all set for them.

Watched this today, thought it was pretty awesome.
It was shot in my old neighbourhood so I recognized every house, alley, store and club.

I got to see it a few weeks ago, and laughed my butt off....a lot better than the comic imo.

I had an idea of what to expect, but sitting down and watching it blew my highest expectations out of the water. I figured it would be "ok", but I think it's easily one of the most entertaining movies I have seen all year. It's like Sin City and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind had a baby and then that baby grew up to be awesome. It was very kinetic from opening to end credits.

It's a movie based on a comic which was inspired by video games. It was pretty much custom made for me and I loved every second of it.

Much better movie than I had anticipated. Recommended.

Awesome Movie - Zora's Domain music was a super touch :D

Really underrated, which is a shame. It's funny, ridiculous and kind of heart warming. Like an emo computer game turned into a film for every gamer ever.
