Netflix also has it available through their Watch Now interface. Kind of cool...Looked like some other season premieres were added as well.

I thought the season premiere was great. They really set some things up for this season. How could Dexter be so careless?!

the shoe at the end of season one kind of set up his carelessness in my mind.
I have not watched the season 2 premiere though.

Well... I heard this series was going to based on the 2nd book, which I haven't read, but the first book ended very differently to the series. So differently I don't really see how Deb can be the same character at all. That and Paul wasn't in the first book, at least not as anything other than an off-stage character.

I'm a bit concerned really that they're going to expose Dexter's "humanity", when part of what made him such a compelling character is he doesn't have any.

I'll still be watching though...

That's almost certainly true.

I don't think all their adjustments were bad, I certainly thought the TV ending was more believable than the book ending, and fleshing out Rita was good, but if they're making this season up out of whole cloth from established characters.. I can see it turning into a big pile of shit =/

Oh yeah, 2 other things:

1) Who is in the last photo on IMDB's listing for Jennifer Carpenter: http://imdb.com/name/nm1358539/

2) This is not Dexter: http://www.sho.com/site/dexter/season2/ ... r_home.jpg

Wtf...

1) assuming the photos do not rotate, it is Jennifer Carpenter as well.

2) that is the actor which plays Dexter. If you are referring to the books again, I would restate that they are moving away from them in season 2. The author of the books has stated that he was used to help guide them through season one, but that he really wasn't needed anymore during the writing/development of season 2.

1) ahh, they do rotate, they had this on Jennifer's page: http://imdb.com/gallery/ss/0773262/Ss/0 ... ,%20Lauren
I think it's Lauren Vélez... but doesn't really look like her either.

2) Yeah, kinda, but it's *so* retouched it looks like some alternate reality Dexter...

Ep 2 was pretty good.
[Show]
That scene with him killing little chico was crazy, "See that? Steady as a surgeon". Is it me or does it seem like the Dexter character has gotten a lot .. darker? Then he was last season. Almost seems more maniacal. I'm digging it.

Well... it's NA, so it's *supposed* to be narcotics anonymous... but she could just be a tourist, a'la Fight Club.

As to Dexter "caring" about Rita... that kinda irritates me, he's supposed to be emotionless...her look of dismay at his smoking hot sponsor made me LOL though

I have all the movie channels, as well as OnDemand. Every original series on both HBO and Showtime is shown on OnDemand.

Entourage and Flight of the Conchords are HBO.

Dexter, Californication and Weeds are on Showtime.

Each of those makes having both movie channels worth it, not to mention some of the other heavyweights I've always liked like Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Wire, Deadwood and Sopranos on HBO, and Dead Like Me and another that I'm drawing a blank on Showtime.

Neither HBO nor Showtime are at all worth having for movies anymore, but their original programming beats all other networks, hands-down.

Are they doing any more work with The Wire? That was a really solid series.

I totally agree about the movies thing. Most of what they show is pretty awful. Though they did show the revenge of the nerds movies, which = silly fun.

So when he went to the flashback of him on the banks of a source of water, picking out rocks, that was the same marina that he keeps his boat? When I saw it, I thought that it probably wasn't, but then he talked about feeling the hope and having it crushed by thinking of electricity or lethal injection.

I take it the rocks that have the algae on them were from the same place he keeps his boat?

That bit about how it was Maria? (The one who replaced Pascal) who was sleeping with Pascal's fiancee was fucking awesome. I think it really gave her character a more cut throat look. Also, that show down between the two former special ops was pretty intense as well.

Yeah, I think you have something there. That could be why they're setting her up so tightly to the Lundy character. There really isn't anyone else who could know besides maybe Lila who wouldn't turn him in without some type of inner conflict.

Re: Dexter Season 2 *Spoilers*

My thought was, and bear with me, I'm still fleshing the idea out...
[Show]
What is the point of Deb and Lundy getting together? Is there ever going to be a point when Deb learns what Dexter truly is? Deb is Harry's daughter, is a cop, and probably has similar values as her father (read: might be cool with Dexter following "the code"). If and when she finds out about Dexter, how will that play out in her relationship with Lundy? Will she use her relationship with him to help cover Dexter's ass? Will it turn out to be some sort of sexual harassment thing that discredits Lundy right before he's about to expose Dexter?

Not sure where the Doakes thing is going, but I can't believe he found Dexter's slides.
Don't know if any of those are feasible, but it was going through my head when I was watching that last night.

One question: why was Doakes using a red flashlight? What's the point of that? Does it provide some benefit that I'm not aware of?

I haven't seen the episode, but I remember being told that red filters on lights are generally used when you don't want anyone to know you're there. Basically the light bleeds out enough that it is very difficult to see from a distance.

You would think that, except they did a shot from outside the apartment and it was quite obvious someone was in there.

Also, as solid as the writing has always been on this show, I am still having a problem with the guy that got the plate number. Just a bit unbelievable that a man would stare out his window and write down EVERYTHING just because some asshole stuck a nail (really?) in his tire many years ago.

Peripheral vision is mostly about rods, which don't pick up red. Nocturnal animals don't have cones at all, hence you can shine a nice bright red light on them and they won't see it and skitter away.

Also, rods pick up movement better than cones, which is why you see shit moving in the corner of your eye then turn and nothing is there. That also means that the moving red light doesn't draw your eye.

That's as I understand it anyway.
