Advice from the minds I respect
Just received my new PC yesterday. I'm giddy with excitement and ready to rock and roll.
I need advice on what first person shooter top buy and what multi player to buy.
1942?
PlanetSide?
I have no clue. I just want to excercise this system.

1942 is a good game, but I prefer to play it with friends rather than on public servers.
If you like (relative) realism, Rainbow Six: Raven Shield is difficult but a lot of fun.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is still a good game that looks good, and plays well.
Medal of Honor Allied Assault, and the expansions for it are fun games, though a bit on the linear side.
Planetside is worth the free download and you might like it a lot. See the thread in the Video Games forum.
No One Lives Forever 2 is fun, but somewhat campy.
Max Payne 2 is a 3rd person shooter, but it will show off the speed of your computer nicely with 4x AA, and full detail. The game is short though, only about 9 hours of gameplay.
Unreal Tournament 2003 should be cheap, and you can use the console to type 'stat fps' to impress all of your friends with your frame per second count with full detail.
I've heard good things about Call of Duty, but I have yet to play it, and I'm not really interested.
Jedi Knight : Jedi Academy is a just ok game with a bad story and bad voice acting.
Halo: Combat Evolved is an overhyped-console-ported piece of shit, but some people enjoy it, and if you play it and enjoy it, that's what matters.
Those are all of the ones I can think of at the moment.

Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
in planetside, if you hit "shift + >" you can impress us with your fps alsoAranuil wrote:Unreal Tournament 2003 should be cheap, and you can use the console to type 'stat fps' to impress all of your friends with your frame per second count with full detail.
in planetside is generally 100+ when i stand still but when lots of explosions and people come around me it occasionally drops to 4-5 fps (i need a new video card )
bf1942 - great but my friends all play the original unreal tournament and planetside, i to prefer to play games with people i know
after originating in the original ut, ut2k3 i found boring and quit the game after one night and haven't played in since the day it was released, why fuck something completely over when you had a great game and architecture to build from
Planetside

I loved CoD single player with the references to Band of Brothers and Enemy at the gates. After I finished it I tried out some servers for multi player.
I liked it even more.
There are lots of 32-player servers that gets full quickly.
16-man squads gives a new dimension to the game.
I highly recommend it.
