Off to Sweden in August!

Post by Canelek »

Never been to Europe before, but I met a gal while I was in Belize that wants me to visit, so why not! Will be staying in Malmö, which looks like a pretty rad city!

Remember that the swedes are a proud people, and are very proud of their culinary achievements. So the best you can do to impress is to on your own accord order Surströmming at a restaurant. :D

A Japanese study has shown that the smell of a newly opened can of surströmming is the most putrid smell of food in the world, beating similar fermented fish dishes such as the Korean Hongeohoe or Japanese Kusaya.
Nothx! My fish tolerance will go as far as picked herring, but not quite to the canned rotten fish... :)

Got my flight taken care of. Woot! Just under $1200, which is pretty good. Fly from Portland to Amsterdam, then Copenhagen, then a short ferry to Malmö.

Leave on 8/23 and return 8/31. Should be a good time partying with the Vikings. Hoorj!

Hah Malmö, i lived there for a short bit while helping with a book.

Malmö is much worse than the Capital of the World Stockholm, but it's clearly a tad better than Kampala if you want to find some light skinned individuals.

Speaking of Surströmming, apparently my friend loves the stuff. EEEEEEEEeee

Drolgin - Send me your number! I'd like to knock back some cold ones in Copenhagen before heading to Malmö. Aside from travel times, I have no real plans...may go camping..

So what are the odds that this Nordic succubus keeps you in thrall for the rest of your natural life?

I'm betting you never return, but die a very happy, if chilly, man.

Spending last leg of my trip in København. Finally got to meet up with Drolgin and had a great time! Hanging out in a dive bar now. Oh, and Surströmming is the most awful smell on this planet.

Also, I love København!!!!! Back home this weekend and will post some pics.

Got to Stockholm on Christmas. In roughly this order I got a fiancé, strep throat, an eye infection, and now hopefully just a normal cold. Been feeling human enough to go out and about after a week. We're staying in Bro but have an Access card to get most everywhere and family in Jakobsberg.

No nasty foods yet but the bacon and cheese brat with raksalad was fucking awesome. Had a great new years and was able to hang with the polish people drinking vodka until there were fireworks in every direction and then had to get home.

While it's fucking cold here, the people are colder. I have never seen such an insular culture before. Swedes, is this the norm or just the frigid temps bringing people down like some hyperbole version of SAD?

On that note, anyone out this way wanna grab a drink or something let me know. More good times would be great. And breaking the ice has been crazy difficult :P
