Not true. Every single one of those vital nutrients (including protein and saturated fats) can be found in non-animal foods. B12, for example, can be found in nutritional yeast and B12-fortified cereals and soy milk.
or a B12 shot, but I am only adding that for the medical response. I don't buy that Spang is this stupid. I mean I know he bought into the Obama thing fully, and seems to ignore that sinking ship, but no one is this dumb.

To quote a terrible movie, but seems to fit this thread now (and following the Scott Pilgrim model already cited)....
Mr. Spang, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Link to actual.. like.. studies and shit. Not many statistically significant findings imo other than cataracts. And from what I can tell these sites are promoters of the vegetarian lifestyle but I'm sure our resident sleuth will uncover their actual evil hidden agenda.

Disease Rates of Vegetarians and Vegans
About 33% of the subjects were vegetarian (including many vegans). The results showed no statistically significant differences between the vegetarians and non-vegetarians in any of the mortality categories which included cancer, circulatory disease, ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular disease (stroke), all other causes, and all causes combined.
In summary, not enough is yet known about vegan mortality to draw any conclusions other than that vegans do not have unusually high rates of mortality and they probably do better than the average person due either to diet or a healthier lifestyle.
Of course here's where the vegetarians put their hands over their ears and ignore all other studies except one while chanting "Seventh Day Adventists.. Seventh Day Adventists.."

Cancer, Vegetarianism, and Diet
* There is insufficient evidence to conclude that fiber, soy, fish, omega-3 fatty acids, carotenoids, vitamins B2, B6, folate, B12, C, D, E, calcium, zinc, selenium, non-nutrient plant constituents (phytochemicals such as allium compounds in garlic, flavonoids, isoflavones, and lignans) lower the risk of cancer.
* There is insufficient evidence that animal fats, heterocyclic amines, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and nitrosamines increase the risk of cancer.
"Since the 1981 Doll and Peto review on diet and cancer mortality , about one third of cancers have generally been thought to be related to dietary factors. More recent evidence suggests that this number may be too high, but a revised quantitative estimate is beyond the scope of this review. Among the diet-related factors, overweight/obesity convincingly increases the risks of several common cancers. After tobacco, overweight/obesity appears to be the most important avoidable cause of cancer in populations with Western patterns of cancer incidence. Among non-smoking individuals in these populations, avoidance of overweight is the most important strategy for cancer prevention."
Notice how they don't say becoming a vegetarian is the most important strategy for cancer prevention.

Oh and one more.. If you can get past the blinding green page. Worst background color ever!

Do Vegetarians Live Longer?
In conclusion

* vegetarians have low mortality compared with the general population
* much of this benefit is attributable to non-dietary lifestyle factors such as the avoidance of smoking and a high socio-economic status
* vegetarians have similar mortality to comparable non-vegetarians, although a vegetarian diet may confer an additional 1-2 years of life (at least among US Adventists).

Of course, life expectancy is not the only measure of health status, and other studies have suggested that vegetarians may enjoy a number of health benefits including being generally slimmer and having lower blood cholesterol levels than non-vegetarians.

And you base this on what, 3,800 of my posts that span eight years (a little more than 1 post per day)? To quote Silent Bob, "Bitch, what you don't know about me I can just about squeeze in the Grand fucking Canyon." And no, I've never wanted to be a dancer in Vegas.

I'm registered to vote in a hate state. There's no goddamn way that a socialist-Muslim from Kenya, who dabbles a bit in communism and fascism, is ever going to win anything in Tennessee, unless the prize is getting lynched. And there's no way that my progressive, borderline-socialist, non-meat-eating ass's vote is ever going to count. In 2012, I can vote for Obama or whatever Republican nutbag you people nominate. My vote won't count, and as long as we allow capitalism to define this country, it won't matter which puppet resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

To be honest, I don't think Obama is a good president or a bad president. I think, given the circumstances, he's done all right. He's far too conservative for my taste, though. But so are most American politicians.

Must suck to know your precious veggie food is probably made by people with animal meat in their bellies. Unless you buy from some superfreak vegan cult, your food is most likely made/cultivated by people who don't give a shit if they eat meat. (you know, normal people)

I grilled up some beer brats last night for the game. It was pouring rain outside but you can't have brats that haven't been grilled. That's just a sin. I simmered them in beer first to get them nice a gray and the put those juicy bastages on the grill. Just delicious.

Oh we had some veggies too. I sauteed some onions for the brats.

Ideally we'd have Kraut but when it is just the wife and I at home we don't. Leaves a stink in the house. Entertaining though we have it on hand. At the stadium tailgating it is a must. If we run out we can go a few cars over and they will have some for us.

Listeria outbreak in cantaloupes is deadliest in a decade

WASHINGTON — Health officials say as many as 16 people have died from possible listeria illnesses traced to Colorado cantaloupes, the deadliest food outbreak in more than a decade.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday that 72 illnesses, including 13 deaths, are linked to the tainted fruit. State and local officials say they are investigating three additional deaths that may be connected.

The death toll released by the CDC Tuesday — including newly confirmed deaths in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Texas — surpassed the number of deaths linked to an outbreak of salmonella in peanuts almost three years ago. Nine people died in that outbreak.

As it was brought up in the other thread, Spang doesn't like hunting, fair enough. What's your alternative and who do you expect to pay for it?

Keeping in mind essentially anything you can think of has been tried and failed already due to cost or ineffectiveness. Getting shot might not be the best way to die, sure seems better than starvation, disease or becoming roadkill with its associated costs.

Read up on CT towns & their efforts to knock down the Lyme disease rate. The gyrations some went through to avoid hunting were amazing.

Further, what is your alternative revenue stream to replace the one that goes away when hunting does?

It's paid for most of the conservation efforts since the '30s afaik, self serving or not it impacts a lot of areas that aren't hunting. You aren't willing to pay a 15 percent surcharge at Whole Foods to make it up, considering you the one who wants the change to happen?
