Iz:The Spirit of Aloha (My First Animated Short)

Post by Sparty »

Hey VV,
I just completed my first animated short film. The film is based on the life of Hawaiian Singer Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo'ole. Geared towards kids, but I think its entertaining for just about all ages.
This film is a little different then what you may expect from me. All i'll say is that the next film I do, which I am already working on, is more the Sparty that you know =)

The Teaser/Trailer can be found here...
http://vimeo.com/1739642

Yes, I know its silly to have a trailer for a 4 1/2 minute short. But, I was bored while rendering.
What can I say?

The film will be doing the rounds on the festival circuit, so It wont be made public for 3 -4 months. However, I've thrown a password protected version up on vimeo for my friends and family to check out.

The link is http://vimeo.com/1740844

The Password is erichasprettyhands

And lastly, I kept a blog throughout the production which you will find here.

Sparty,

You really are a magical person. This is very beautiful... Fantastic job!! :D

I anxiously await your next work of art!!

I'd buy you a new baseball, just to see what you'd do with it.

That was great Sparty!

Did you write the story/poem as well?

The colors really stood out for me. Let us know how it does on the festival circuit.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
Yup, I wrote the poem. I did all of the art/animation. I even did the guitar track you hear in the background =)
I'll keep you guys updated on how it does.

Thanks again!

Yeah very impressed. I am going to show it to the kids tonight.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. Thanks gang. You guys are always good for a confidence boost. I'll be the first to admit that this is a little soft, some may even say gay, but I still think it was a good first run. I learned a lot. I'm submitting it to all the smaller festivals, a few big ones, and all of the animation festivals. I'll doubt it'll do amazingly well, but im sure i'll get into a few, which is always nice.

My next film is about a guy who fishes for birds, lives with his dead wife, and floats around on a tree that grew from a barge. A little more up my alley =)

Thanks again!

By the way, I want to make it clear that little rico did zero work on the film. He would tell you differently. He just sat around watching me work and then wanted a writing credit. BS.

Really nice work there mate :) I see your characters have become a little less harsh looking with time?

I quite liked the disturbed, distorted visions of past work, but this stuff is much more pleasing and palateble to the eye :D

Again, excellent stuff :)

Nice work man. Big fan of Israel's work. His version of Somewhere over the Rainbow is one of my wife's and I favorite song.
