Flu Remedies Anyone?

Post by Lynxe »

I've got the flu. Not a cold, the full fledged flu. So do two of my kids. It got me wondering what remedies other people use for the flu or a cold. For example I think my friend chases a drink of Jack and coke with Buckley's. What about the rest of you?

Coca-Cola was originally invented as an elixir for upset stomachs, a glass of ice cold Coke sipped slowly works wonders.

I just tried Buckley's for the first time tonight. Omfg gross.

Drink glass of water, sleep an hour, get up and go pee. Repeat every hour for 2-3 days.

Work consuming some chicken broth in there somewhere.

Sleep, 7-up, Jell-O that hasn't completely solidified (drank with a straw). I know the Jell-O thing sounds gross, but I grew up with it, so figure why not. And lipton noodle soup. =D

At the first sign: horseradish, garlic and vitamin C tablets (all in one tablet from health food stores), and some echinacea

I was skeptical about this stuff at first... but since I started downing a couple of each of those in the morning and afternoon when I'm starting to notice symptoms, I get colds/flu for about 1 day then it's done. Used to be more like 7.

I go for a jog. Sweat out the flu, its the only way. And when that doesn't work...drink tons of water and eat lots of chicken soup...and pee it out.

haha, none of the above will work. Only make things worse!

The "Flu" is a virus. Only Anti-Viral drugs can counter act the infection.

Oseltamivir (brand name: Tamiflu)
Zanamivir (brand name: Relenza)
Amantadine (brand name: Symmetrel)
Rimantadine (brand name: Flumadine)

The fever you have will be around 101F and is currently under debate concerning the flu. Some doctors think the body naturally raises your internal temperature because it can be enough to kill off the virus or bacteria in your system that caused an infection, however too high of a fever can be fatal or cause brain damage. The overall consensus is you are better off without a fever and most doctors will reccomend tylenol brand products to keep your fever down.

I have had personal experience though, "sweating" a virus out. You need to hydrate really well though before hand, keep plenty of fluids at bedside and then just set the heater to around 80F, coverup with 3-4 blankets and turtle in for about a full day. Make sure you have someone checking on you every hour while you sleep if you plan on sweating it out. A good inside the ear thermometer works best for them to monitor your temperature while you sleep.... or you can use those plastic temp slides that go on your kids foreheads if you dont have the ear one.

You will sweat like crazy under those blankets so it is very important to hydrate well before you lay down and then wake up every few hours and drink a couple glasses of juice or water.

Goodluck!

Temp was about 104 when not medicated. Fun times!

Got a bad couch by day 3, ended up with a bronchial infection. Just gets better!

If that was true, then no one would survive the flu prior to medication being invented, you fucking moron.
