Small acts

Post by Pherr the Dorf »

So lately I have found this place to eat... he is really good, like he does the food I liked doing but he is better than I ever was good. He was the private Chef for years then went into catering. He has since opened a small restaurant in front of the catering kitchen he shares with 5 other caterers. The place seats 15 including 3 at the bar, everything is Prix Fixe dinners for 35, 3 or 4 courses depending http://cafesaintrose.googlepages.com/ and lunches that are small plates. That is his food there... it's the small place everyone has heard of but few can actually find. Anyways I am all into supporting him so I gather a bunch of guys from work and head over there to order a ton of food to go so he has a nice busy lunch. I walk in and pull out a copy of his lunch menu I have with a bunch of stuff written on it and they inform me they are doing something different today and hand me a prix fixe menu which is odd for lunch... it read as follows.

While I have lived in California for twenty three years, I nonetheless still consider myself a New Yorker. I do not feel right about making money today, so everything is free. All I ask is that you tip your waitress generously and do something nice, whether it's give a bum a buck, or telling a fat person they look great today. You know I heard a commentary on the news today saying you should look at your wife as if it is the last time you'll ever see her, on the contrary, you should look at your wife as if it was the first time you ever saw her.

Butternut Squash Soup with Bacon and Crema

Warm Leg of Lamb Salad, Roquette, Figs and Potatoes
or
Goat Cheese Salad

Cupcake Parade

I ate an amazing lunch for free (including wine), I was totally humbled, tipped my waitress 20 bucks for my lunch, gave the first bum I saw a fiver and thought I would share.

"telling a fat person they look great"

That isn't really the kindest of statements...

That came out of left field. Perhaps the chef knew that deep down fat people probably have more insecurities than most and that it would be more of a weighty compliment than if you told a supermodel she's pretty.

Either way, BOO FUCKING HOO.

If I owned a restaraunt and a fat person walked in, I'd be happier than a pig in shit.

I guess the point I was trying to make is, how would you feel if you were a fat person and sat down and read that? I mean, if he took the time to print it up, you would think he would have given it some thought. It's a great gesture, but he should have used a different suggestion. And obviously if it's been suggested to do so, the compliment would not be genuine in the first place.

What if it was an all you can eat buffet?

Besides which just because a person is large doesn't mean they consume mass quantities. It could just mean they aren't active and they don't make healthy eating choices. A stomach is only so big regardless of how much a person weighs!

Citizens of Green Bay! You look nice today!

Acts of kindness (random or not) are cool. I try to do those when I can.
