We're going to be upgrading the boards, so they might be disabled briefly while we do so. Don't worry, we'll be back as soon as possible.

Okay, the boards are a little different now. Bear with us. And bare with us.

We'll probably continue to tweak for the next few days, but this is pretty rad so far. Get used to it.

Gah!! Change!!!!

Seriously, Avatars to the right is going to take some getting used to. Otherwise, I like it.

Will these "upgrades" include something to better tell where one post ends and another begins? I'm also interested in seeing how the avatars on the right hold up to crappy resolutions in posts that kick the margin's ass.

Yeah, honestly, I don't get the avatar switch. Everything else looks fine, but right-side avatars make no sense. We (those of us that aren't retarded) read from left to right. Avatars to the left is simply better for this purpose, I see a name/picture, and know who's talking before I read the post.

Now each post can be a surprise I guess? =/

Heh. It's like features mixed with anarchy.

Thanks very much for all of the hard work. Hopefully the new boards will make stuff easier for you guys.

I agree with the previous requests. I'd also add that the spacing of the posts in general is on the odd side. I know it's a lot of work, and I really appreciate it.

Hmm, just noticed that the "new post" icon is not always appearing on the Board Index. That might just be for posts in the "Announcement" section though.

There are a ton more features that overrule the initial discomfort we'll feel with avatars on the right. For example, attachments are now built in. And Administration in general is 1000x better.

I'll look into adding another theme or two, perhaps one that will allow you knuckleheads to have your avatars on the left.

Also please note the "Friends and Foes" tab in your User Control Panel. Add a foe to ignore people. I'm not positive what good adding a friend does. You can also search in individual topics and report posts and do all kinds of fun stuff.

This is the default look for phpBB3. I'm sure sylvus, py etc need to make sure it's stable before modding it. I like the look although Avatars on the right does take getting used to.

I lost about 1,800 posts. Post count isn't a big deal but did we lose threads again? If so, that's about 12% of our history.

Has anyone else noticed posts or threads missing?

trying out quote feature! (more readable than with silver surfer default quote colors)

The new way phpBB handles oversized images is kinda neat. Text remaines wrapped to the size of the margins although you can resize the margin on the fly to see larger images. Much better than the old days (pre image resizing mod) where the text would be all screwed up on large images.

It looks like all tags are temporarily down. /hide etc.

I think the stats are probably more in line with what actually appears here. Meaning they'd been wrong since the great thread fire of '04 or '05.

I'm thinking I was over 10k, but I can't be sure. It's actually been quite a while since I paid any attention to it.

It will take a bit of getting used to but it seems alright. The reply screen seems so much better (maybe because the text box is bigger?)

I have to say that so far I'm not a fan at all.. I guess we'll see, maybe I will grow to like it.

P.S. I lost some posts as well, only about 200-300 though.

Change is inevitable - I actually like the look quite a bit. Perhaps having a choice of "Board Styles" one can choose in the User Control Panel (e.g. SubSilver, etc.).

It looks very clean - nice work!

Evenually there might be a mod to switch avatars to the left. I'm sure the phpBB programmers had a reason for the switch. I know people use the avatars as a quick reference on whether or not to skip posts! For me, it's extra eye movement to look all the way to the right and back to the beginning of the text on the far left. The name of the poster is also listed on the left so people (linux users) who like to be the Quakers of the net and prefer not see anything besides basic text can do so.

phpBB has a lot of nice little upgrades I'm noticing just after a little use (just like Vista!). I like the new search features from the main forum and inside specific forums.

Hopefully sylvus is right on the post count being adjusted to reflect the previous thread mishap. I haven't noticed any missing threads yet but will keep an eye out.

I followed this tutorial to move avatars/poster info to the left: http://www.easytutorials.org/prosilver_ ... _side.html. Seems to be working fine, but not sure if editing the CSS file breaks anything else. Thanks for the upgrade!

New Post flags are disappearing left and right...read one post, go back to the forum index, and no other new posts exist

I'd recommend everybody delete any cookies you have that might be related to this site. I'm pretty sure that the cookies have something to do with marking posts read or not, and I have no idea what kind of crazy things might happen based on your old cookies.

I like the "view first new post button" so you don't have to scroll through threads anymore.

Also like how the tags insert both sides of the tag and place the cursor in between them. (that wasn't happening in the past for me at least!)

edit: this button: --> Image

First, I really like the new theme... I may be the only one, but this prosilver theme is great. I don't mind having the poster info on the right, just takes some time to get used to. There have been times when I've wanted to read a thread at work without graphics, so i've shrunk the browser window and had to scroll right to hide the poster info, now i would just shrink the window.

Second, The filters are great and should reduce overall site bandwidth if people set them up properly. I have set mine to only show threads with activity in the last 7 days, which will eliminate a good chunk of data everytime I pick a forum... while still showing all posts once I get into a thread.

Third, Is there a possible mod to pick which Forums to show?... I would like to be able to subscribe to forums, or unsubscribe to the ones I don't want to see, which would further reduce bandwidth and my scrolling. I only look at the general forum, the video game general forum, current events, computers/tech, and movies/dvd. Just a thought.

Lastly, Thanks for all the time and effort put into the upgrade. It is appreciated, and I'll send some paypal loving your way.

Has the "View new posts" option at the top of the main forum index always been available or is that new?

That's kinda nice (if it works like I think it does)

It kind of pulled up a miss mash of new and read posts but the read one may have been read during the current visit. If that's reliable, it's a great way to summarize the new posts without having to dig through everything.

What does bookmarking a thread do?

I dig a lot of the upgrades. The formating, not so much. ;)

*edit* I just saw that we can change our format style in settings. Okay I'm happy again. The avatars are back where they belong!

Is there a place that defines what the symbols before the topics and other places mean?

I figured out that a little star means that you've posted somewhere in that thread. Doesn't seem very useful as half or more of the threads have stars and you'd probably remember if you've posted in a thread.

I like the new features a lot (especially the view latest post icon) but the icon set isn't so hot imo. The unread posts stood out more with my old theme and the scrolling text icon for hot topics isn't as cool! I'm curious if there are various icon sets you can use for phpBB3.

All nitpicky stuff though as phpBB3 is well worth the upgrade imo.

hay! new max pixel sizes and file sizes for avatars:
Maximum dimensions; width 150 pixels, height 150 pixels, file size 98kB.
It would still be nice to turn individual avatars off instead of all or nothing. There haven't been any annoying ones lately though.

I also noticed that you can insert a tag in the middle of your posts and not have to stick it at the end again. Nice nice.

Couple new things I noticed, and maybe they are "features" rather than "bugs:"

Choosing smilies from the "View more smilies" link no longer inserts them into your post. Instead it just thinks for a moment and adds the "text-version" to the top of the pop-up window.

Links now open in the same window rather than a new window/tab (I didn't notice this one earlier today, just within the last hour or so in IE7)

I noticed that if you click it once it doesn't show up, but if you click it again it does. #-o

that's odd, because I clicked it twice on one yesterday. Maybe it has something to do with the timing? Did you double click it, or did you click once and then click again once the "shortcut" was listed at the top of the window?

Get the Tab mix Plus add-on for Firefox:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1122

I have URL, Searches, and favorites set to open into a new tabs.

Hmmm, as for opening URLs on a page into a new window, get Super DragAndGo add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/137

All you do is click and slightly drag and then release a URL to open it in another tab, or click and slightly drag an image on a web page to save it to your HD.

Both excellent, stable add-ons for Firefox 2.x. The DragAndGo add-on might do the trick for you but I'd go nuts without also having Tab Mix Plus setting up my searches to open in a new tab along with favorites, etc.

Those would be good add-ons to grab....if I used Firefox.

I tried it before, and it wasn't for me. I currently use IE7 at home and IE6 at work. I just tested it, and the "open in same window" is happening in both.

Interesting changes, but after some messin' around, you can get it almost back to old-school (normal).

Is Friends/Foes an internal thing this time that only you see?
Pre phpBB3 you could see who had you on ignore or as a friend. I think this version is just for your own use.
