True, to a certain degree. However, the quasi popularity of NOFX is a by-product of them being interesting through the years as opposed to directly striving to make videos on mtv.
Ends to a means--means to an end? I don't know really.
I just don't like green day! nyaahh! I miss the good ol' days of Black Flag and DK.

I do find it funny watching Green day, they do seem to have a legitimate concern for whats going on.
Of course some dollar obsessed cynic will no doubt come off with the "Oh how shrewd, the anti establishment dollar, huge in times of war" routine.
I like when he starts singing Zeig Heil, thats fucking comedy gold.

You are both right. Sometimes I get so anti-mtv that I speak out of class as some of my favorite bands do not take themselves seriously, yet still appeal to those that enjoy the music.

Tool is one of the few bands that I have heard on the radio in the past 15 years or so that really has been solid with each new album. Well, I don't listen to too much radio due to the fact that I was horrified at the garbage that LA radio stations put out, but those guys always seem to appeal to multiple genres...I may throw Foo Fighters in to that mix as well.

"Bye, you lizard scum!"
Yeah, American Idiot is a great album. I admit, I liked "Dookie", but after that one I lost interest in Green Day's stuff til now.
Oddly, the title track seems a little out of place on what is essentially a concept album. It's like "Okay, here's your obligatory 3-minute single. Now let's get to the real album". Listening to it start to finish was really neat. Gave me new appreciation for the songs that I didn't particularly like at first. Worth checking out even if you think Green Day's last few efforts were kinda weak.
Shouldn't this be in the music forum, though?

Music forum? Nah.... it is all about the free-form approach to posting on VV.
"American Errorist (I Hate Hate Haters)"
It’s ok, allow yourself a little hate
Hatred is not so bad when directed at injustice
You can turn the other cheek, just don’t turn the other way
Enemy of the planet we finally have a common aim
a reason to forget about our differences
and stand as a united front
It’s up to us, we must expose,
Humiliate American errorists
We’ll start with one
The war has just begun

Despite her kookyness Sinead actually puts out (or did, anyway) some good music.

I went to a party last Saturday night
I didn't get laid, I got in a fight,
Uh, huh
It ain't no big thing
Late for my job and the traffic was bad
Had to borrow ten bucks from my old man,
Uh, huh
It ain't no big thing
I went to a party last Saturday night
I told you that story, I'd be alright
Uh, huh
It ain't no big thing

Ohhh, nice call! But no, I was referring to:
Went to a party
I danced all night
I drank 16 beers
And I started up a fight
But now I am jaded
You're out of luck
I'm rolling down the stairs
Too drunk to fuck
Too drunk to fuck
Too drunk to fuck
Too drunk, to fuck
I'm too drunk, too drunk, too drunk
To fuck
I like your stories
I love your gun
Shooting out truck tires
Sounds like loads and loads of fun
But in my room
Wish you were dead
You ball like the baby
In Eraserhead
Too drunk to fuck
Too drunk to fuck
Too drunk, to fuck
It's all I need right now
Too drunk to fuck
Too drunk to fuck
Too drunk to fuck
Too drunk, to fuck
I'm sick soft gooey and cold
Too drunk to fuck
I'm about to drop
My head's a mess
The only salvation is
I'll never see you again
You give me head
It makes it worse
Take out your fuckin' retainer
Put it in your purse
I'm too drunk to fuck
You're to drunk to fuck
Too drunk to fuck
It's all I need right now Oh baby
I'm melting like an ice cream bar
Oh baby
And now I got diarrhea
Too drunk to fuck
Yeah, Yeah
Yeah, Yeah
Yeah, Yeah
Oooohhh

no the music forum is full of snobs. if someone said they liked green day in there, all these faggots would jump out of nowhere and start listing off obscure "punk" bands that nobody's ever heard of but themselves thinking that they are the only true and last legitimate music aficionado on the planet.Shouldn't this be in the music forum, though?

NOFX? A band of mid-twenties whining babies complaining about their mom giving them a hard time? Piss off.

Mid-twenties? Nah, more like mid-30s now. Teen angst? I am not sure what you are listening too, unless it is their music from the 80s.Zaelath wrote:NOFX? A band of mid-twenties whining babies complaining about their mom giving them a hard time? Piss off.

This is a correct statement. Ever since I bought it, I haven't been able to get it out of my car. So many great songs.kyoukan wrote:"American Idiot" is one of the best albums of the year.

Green Day is good , my son is addicted to them , I (and he) also really enjoy Blink 182. I have him hooked on some good old stuff as well , Hoogo Gurus , Social D and so on. He has the attitude (for an 11yr old) of Mike Ness.

I have to agree. I bet everyone here loved some obscure band at some point. I loved the Lucy Show and Mary's Danish in the 1980's and early 1990's, but what is wrong with selling albums. If a band does not get sales, especially today, in the first album or two they go away. U2 had no sales on their first few albums and became one of the biggest bands in the world. Do not hate a band for writing a poppy single every now and then, they have to eat too.no the music forum is full of snobs. if someone said they liked green day in there, all these faggots would jump out of nowhere and start listing off obscure "punk" bands that nobody's ever heard of but themselves thinking that they are the only true and last legitimate music aficionado on the planet.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon
U2 still sounds as fantastic now as they did back then too...twenty five years later they are still at the top of their game. Of course they're not gonna make anything like Joshua Tree or War again, but their last two CDs were amazing. As far as Green Day goes, I was always fond of their song called Minority.Tyek wrote: U2 had no sales on their first few albums and became one of the biggest bands in the world. Personally I LOVED the Dookee disc, still listen to it from time to time but haven't purchased anything since as I usually just listen to old Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Ozzy or some of the new Country releases. I truly think that after Metal died all the good guitarists moved to Nashville. Listen to any Kenny Chesney disc and you will hear numerous Rhodes, Lee and Wyld licks from their days with Ozzy.
However I just might have to go pick up that new Green Day release, it sounds pretty interesting. Heh, the last disc I purchased was "The Darkness" which I listen too from time to time as well... those guys crack me up.
I'm usually not a huge fan of Contempoary Christian music but I do like Steven Curtis Chapman and this band he got produced last year called Casting Crowns. If you aren't advers to the songs being about priasing God you should check it out, very very good disc. Except for a few Floyd days here and there it's been in my cd player for months and I never get tired of it.
Cheers!

I like how all the true punk lovers hate Green Day. Now you know how everyone on God's green earth feels about punk rock It's just ironic to see "cutting edge" music lovers get old and hate the new music while loving thier timeless favorites, just like the generation before them. I read a quote by Bob Dylan the other day where he says all today's music sucks so bad, if he had the choice of performing in today's market, he'd skip music altogether and become an architect or some shit. He actually made menion that you cannot understand what modern musicans are singing. Bob fucking Dylan said that. Oh, the hilarity. It's all a cycle. I'll bet 20 years from now, Marylin Manson will be playing in celebraty golf tournaments and hosting a radio show just as sure as Alice Copper is doing it now.

I've always liked Green Day. I don't put too much into the whole "X band is a sellout because.." arguments because I really don't fucking care. If I like a song, I like it. Anything else is overanaylzing something that is intended to be quite simple and kinda takes away from the point of listening to music anyway

Green Day is a good band, nothing wrong with them. Listen to Kerplunk -- old album but good stuff.
I blame the radio stations and record companies more for bands 'selling out' than the bands themselves most of the times. I turn on the 'alternative' FM station here (yeah, there's only one in all of DFW) and I hear stuff that they were playing 10 years ago when I was in high school. I rarely hear anything new, which is why I don't listen to it any more. Also when a new song does come out by one of the 10 bands they play it gets played 10 times a day until you're sick of listening to it. Stupid radio stations.

I do not like greenday nor any punk band, but I did not come here to slander anyones taste in music. What I did post for was fairweather making his comment about bob dylan... Comparing him in even the most minute way to any modern band, is disgusting. He made more quality music in the first few months of his career than any modern rock group could hope to do if they live to be 150 years old.

Now I agree Dylan really was an absolute fucking master, if not a tad whiny, but still, a truly beautiful poet and a one off.any modern rock group
However, in defense of modern rock bands, and again I go back to Tool (as I listen to lateralus) I reckon they are easily in the same level of genius.
Maybe that won't be a popular thought, but I don't care. It being subjective and all.
That and my serious wood for the last two Tool albums right now (and forever).
