Hobo With a Shotgun (2011)

Post by Canelek »

I randomly came across this B, Exploitation, Gore-filled fun-fest and just had to give it a whirl. Hell, it has RUTGER FUCKING HAUER in it, so why not? :D

Image

Picture Lloyd Kauffman(Troma) remaking Deathwish, and you have this movie. It is so cheesy and fun and gross and loud! Yay!

Homeless man (Hauer) arrives to a small town (filmed in Nova Scotia) and sees that it is rife with crime, a corrupt police force and a nuevo-Mad-Max-ish psychopath who controls the town via ULTRAVIOLENCE. After being horribly beaten trying to find justice in the police force, homeless man decides to take matters into his own hands (WITH A SHOTGUN). Teamed up with his faithful hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold friend, he delivers justice--One Shell at a Time.

This was either in, or was supposed to be in the series of fake trailers wedged between the feature films of Grindhouse.

If you liked Machete....

8/10 for B-Movie Madness and Rutger Hauer

yeah, the Alamo Drafthouse has been all over this movie since pre-release. Fun flick. Yet another of the "fake" trailers from Grindhouse made into a fun as hell movie. The Drafthouse has the arcade game set up in the main lobby that gets a lot of attention between start times.

I watched it last night. It was a pretty fucking crazy movie! I liked it, but missed the "theater intro and music" like the other Grindhouse movies have. I heard Machete is having it's sequels shot back to back and the last one will have him in outer space!

The coolest thing about this movie and what really made it worth watching for me was the fact it was filmed with mysterium X cameras and then the original print was processed in technicolor and transferred to 1080p. I don't think a more vibrantly shot movie has been released in the last decade and it truly makes it worth seeing just for that. This kind of film wouldn't work for every movie filmed, but it definitely made me pay attention to it. I recommend watching it just so you can see it.

It was also pretty awesome. You could totally tell it was filmed in Nova Scotia. Everyone had ridiculous east coast Canadian accents and it was hilarious.

That's pretty badass about the filming and post-production. Interesting to see what director Jason Eisener has planned after he wraps ABCs of Death, which is some sort of anthology of death(Faces of Death?)

Here's more about the ABC's of Death...

http://fantasticfest.com/blog/entry/com ... _announced

Today Drafthouse Films, Magnet Pictures and Timpson Films announced the full roster of directors signed on to participate in the international co-production THE ABCs OF DEATH, an anthology horror film featuring segments directed by over two dozen leading talents in contemporary genre film from around the world. The feature is comprised of 26 individual episodes, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet inspiring a single word about death. Currently in pre-production, the film’s producers reserved the 26th director slot for a worldwide contest to find tomorrow’s next great horror filmmaker. The contest ends October 1st.

In May 2011, the film’s producers announced that enlisted directors were to include Jason Eisener (HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN), Ti West (HOUSE OF THE DEVIL and the upcoming THE INNKEEPERS), Ben Wheatley (SXSW 2011 favorite KILL LIST), Srdjan Spasojevic of A SERBIAN FILM infamy, and 18 others. Joining the roster are recent signees Jon Schnepp (co-director of Adult Swim’s epic animated series Metalocalypse) and Jorge Michel Grau, whose jarring 2010 cannibal drama SOMOS LO QUE HAY (WE ARE WHAT WE ARE) garnered a great deal of notice and established him as one of the more fearless rising filmmakers of the era.

"Having Jon Schnepp onboard is really going to bring some anarchic diversity to the project," says co-producer Ant Timpson. "His work on Metapocalypse, The Venture Bros and Aqua Teen Hunger Force shows that he is the real deal; a supremely multi-talented guy with a unique perspective and set of skills to match."

"Jorge Michel Grau won top honors, the 'Next Wave' award, at last year's Fantastic Fes for his feature WE ARE WHAT WE ARE. We are delighted that this visionary filmmaker is joining our already strong roster," says co-producer Tim League.

The following is the list of participating directors, along with their countries of origin and a reference title from each of their filmographies:

•Kaare Andrews (ALTITUDE), USA
•Angela Bettis (ROMAN), USA
•Ernesto Diaz Espinoza (MIRAGEMAN, MANDRILL), Chile
•Jason Eisener (HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN), Canada

Interesting. I wonder if it was inspired by Edward Gorey. THEN, it would be even more rad.
