Canadian Elections

Post by Animalor »

So many stories last night. For an election that started off pretty boring, noone was expecting all of this..

Conservatives take power with a majority.
The NDP is elected as the official opposition. A groundswell of support that stated the leader's debates, especially in Quebec, materialized in a massive turnout of support at the polls.
The Bloc Quebecois is completely decimated, losing party status in the house of commons.
The Liberals lose 43 seats, down to 34.
A LOT of upsets for very high profile house of common members, including Liberal party leader Ignatieff and Bloc leader Gilles Duceppe.
Green Party leader elected. This is the first time the green party gets a seat in the house of commons.

I was up till about 1am watching the returns.

That Harper is a resilient motherfucker.

How will Infinite Jest come true if the Quebecois lose their influence???

I gotta laugh at Layton who basically neutered himself by going after Ignatieff and the Liberals.
He's no fucking power whatsoever being the leader of the opposition against a Harper majority.

Welcome to the new Harper oligarchy!

Please put this election in terms I can understand. Does this election outcome give you a better or worse chance of getting Star Trek episodes on Netflix in Canada?

Canada have elections? I though they would go out and throw trees at each other, or have poutine eating contest to decide who leads

It was decided by caber toss.

I would put being able to watch US TV (Hulu, NBC) in Canada as a top priority. Sadly, I don't think it's in their top 100 for any of the parties.
