I had no interest in this movie until I saw the trailer. Now, I just have to see it!

Looks to be another movie where the trailer doesn't ruin the movie.

It's an Oliver Stone movie. I'm not so certain it will 'celebrate' him at all.Animalor wrote:Do we really need to have a movie celebrating one of the most mediocre presidents in modern history?

Didn't the actorguy who played him just get arrested?
Think I will rent it at some point. Oliver Stone can make a really good movie or a REALLY bad, LONG movie.

If it's not just another bashfest I'll go to the theater.

Yeah. If it presents a balanced portrayal of Bush, it's probably not for you.Nick wrote:Well if its a factual depiction of Bush it's impossible for it not to be a "bashfest".
If it isn't a "bashfest" it has effectively zero worth.

You normally hear more about the "oh shits" as opposed to the "atta boys". I'm sure that W has done some good but due to the media catering to the "Oh Shits" I really couldn't come up with any "Atta Boys" personally.

Re: W.
Nah, I doubt it will be a "bashfest". That would be boring and we don't really need Hollywood to tell us how much of an assclown W is. That or suffer through a Michael Moore scat-fest.
However, it may be interesting. Just because you don't like someone, it doesn't mean there is no possibility for entertainment.

I'm sure it will be a bashfest and probably very entertaining, but I wouldn't classify it as anything more than entertainment.

Rented this on itunes this weekend and it wasn't to bad. It wasn't a bash fest at all, there were more jabs at the dems then anything really. I'm not sure how authentic the movie is but I actually walked away with a little more respect for W. then I had before.

Re: W.
saw it this past weekend. it was more harsh on him than i was expecting.. sometimes subtle but more often gratuitous. but on the other hand they left out a number of decidedly negative events from his past.
they portrayed others negatively as well, rice was shown as totally subservient and timid. cheney and rove were manipulative and shady. colin powell was shown as going along with the war despite being objected to it for no apparent reason aside from being bullied by Cheney and Rumsfeld. basically everyone was a caricature of how the general public views them.
they definitely took a great deal of speculative liberties, but hey.. thats Oliver Stone. i don't really give any of it any credence to reality. though it echoed much of my feelings about the people portrayed and the events of his administration, particularly regarding the iraq war.
i did notice that he seemed to be eating or drinking in about half of the scenes in the movie.
