Congrats Winnow

Post by Sylvus »

The state of Arizona is the champion of something.

Please keep your Arizona rim jobbing to this thread, and step into one of the others when someone besides a WNBA team has won something.

Like the World Series?

D'Backs Champs in 2001 and contenders again in 2007!

Not surprising someone from that neck of the woods would mock a women's championship. While over here, we dominate the rest of the nation in both men's and women's athletics.
NCAA TEAM TITLES WON BY CONFERENCE
(through 2005-06 season)

Men

1. PACIFIC-10 251
2. Big Ten 191
3. Big 12 130
4. Southeastern 91
5. Ivy 75
6. Big East 56
7. Conference USA 46
8. Atlantic Coast 48
9. Western Athletic 35
10. Sun Belt 30

Women

1. PACIFIC-10 100
2. Southeastern 65
3. Atlantic Coast 49
4. Big 12 36
5. Big East 19
6. Mountain West 14
Big Ten 14
8. Colonial 12
Ivy 12
At least the Big Ten competes in one category.

I salute the Phoenix Mercury's defeat of the Detroit Shock!

Suns may take it all this year without ref's cheating and dirty teams being called for their fouls.

There is also a rather vibrant adult film industry in Scottsdale, although it pales in comparison to the Chatsworth/Canoga/N Hollywood area. And ADOBE, SYLVUS! DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE ADOBE!!!

I wonder if those stats include titles won before conferences started. It matters so little to me that I will not bother looking it up though :P

Here's a mid-weekend update for October 6-7:

Heard around VV:

Reality:

D'Backs finish with best record in NL

D'Backs sweep the Cubs in the first round and advance to the NL Championship Series

-------

Arizona State goes on the road and pulls out a tough win in the ever tough to win Washington State Stadium

#18 ASU is 6-0, being unranked at the beginning of season and earning every vote it gets on its climb up the polls

---------

In other news outside Arizona:

Another top five ranked Big Ten team loses to an unranked opponent:

#5 Wisconsin 26 Illinois 31

Maybe the 1-AA losing, Oregon beat down Michigan team really is the 2nd best team in the Big Ten this year. Wow.

Over in the SEC, #1 LSU (how the fuck did they take #1 over USC?) is losing at halftime 7-17.

-------------

Recommended viewing for rest of weekend:

2-2 Arizona Cardinals @ 0-4 St Louis Rams, look to join the Suns and D'Backs as another elite team.

-------

Goooooo AZ!

End of weekend update:

With the Arizona Cardinals win in the ever tough home of the "Greatest Show on Turf"* St Louis stadium, the Cardinals join The Diamondbacks and Suns at the top team in their division.

Arizona Pro Sports update:

Diamondbacks - Currently in National League Championship series
Suns - 3X standing Western Division Champions
Cardinals - Currently the top team in the NFC West (having beaten Seattle head to head)
Phoenix Mercury - World Champions

College update:

13th ranked (unranked at beginning of season) Arizona State Sundevils - 6-0 and moving up the rankings

Not bad for a little state like Arizona!

How about those Phoenix Coyotes and U of A Wildcats?

Also, Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the United States.

Hockey doesn't belong in a desert so they don't count. Wildcats will stomp you in Basketball so ASU will take the football honors.

And phoenix may be large but it's only the 12th biggest media market so it's even a bigger deal what the state of Arizona has accomplished typically being drowned out by the LA and NY market TV priorities.

1 New York City
2 Los Angeles
3 Chicago
4 Philadelphia
5 Dallas/Fort Worth
6 San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose
7 Boston / Manchester, NH
8 Atlanta
9 Washington, D.C.
10Houston
11 Detroit
12 Phoenix

Someone can break down another state's top sports teams for comparison. Maybe Texas can compete currently with Dallas, San Antonio and...oops, no baseball and not the same metro area.

First Stanford beats USC, and then UCLA finds a way to give a pathetic ND team it's first win.
Hell even the supposed suck ass Big Ten has beaten Notre Dame 3 times this year.
