This movie was quite good and John Cusack like usual does not dissapoint. Its not a blood and guts but a more psycological horror movie. Would recommend this big time.

Yeah, the original is THE best ghost story i have read, great mix of wierd and scary, and breaking with the standard ghost stories.
I cant imagine the movie in any way living up to it though.

Secret Window was good. Depp and Turturo were awesome.

Well, Depp played well in it, but the movie was horrible :)

I didn't think 1408 was all that bad. But a bit cliche in places where they are trying to scare. Things like the main character turning around and someone being there with a knife, etc. I found it a bit funny after awhile but definitely in the category of cheap theatrics.

Strange thing about King adaptations. They can go either way--and then sometimes, it can hurt or help if you had read the novels/stories beforehand... I think I will wait for rental, regardless.

And Secret Window...oy vey--even though the short story was just decent, the film was dreadful, imo. Of course, mileage may vary and acting or Johnny Depp can carry you through.

Oh and a footnote (in a new post!): I hadn't read the book/story beforehand. I'm not really what one would call a Stephen King fan.

Oh man, secret window was awful.

The ending scene where you see him with the corn in his mouth, and the screen goes black and you hear the crunch... was just the campiest thing, maybe ever.

I'll start off by saying that I'm the biggest 'fraidy cat I know...

This movie didn't scare me in the slightest. I jumped once and the spent the rest of time wondering if I'd found some balls since the last thriller/horror movie I saw (it's been confirmed since that I have, in fact, not).

I love John Cusack and am planning on having all of his babies but even he couldn't save this movie for me.
