Nine Inch Nails: Year Zero
Looks like this one's going to be bizarre. It's a wacky concept album about a dismal future based in the year 2022. A tyrannical government is drugging the masses. People are disappearing from their homes taken by feds in bunny suits. Innocents are labelled subversives for speaking out and bad things are happening to them.
Small bands of resistance are secretly not drinking the water supply, which tainted with Parepin - a drug which is supposed to be boosting immunity in order to combat bioterrorism on home soil, but more than likely is a narcotic meant to subdue the masses. After some time off the drugs they are seeing - hallucinating? a vision of a hand coming from the sky. They are calling this "the presence". The vision is depicted on the album cover and for a brief second on a spooky promotion video on their website.
Here's the album cover.
even more interesting, and what got me really excited about this even though I don't so much like the song "Survivalism" that I heard on the radio is this viral ad promotion campaign.
A month or so ago T-shirts sold at a show in Germany featured a hidden message via different color letters that when put together spelled "I am trying to believe". An enterprising fan then came upon the unsettling http://www.iamtryingtobelieve.com
Members of a fan site echoingthesound.com then uncoverred a series of websites that all tie together painting a sort of Orwellian future. Highlights of this include http://www.bethehammer.com - about an angry sniper, with references to an ominous military outfit 105th airborne crusaders - 105thcrusaders.com which in turn leads to http://www.churchofplano.com (especially funny to me being from Plano, TX: a place where if this could happen it would happen here first).
Many other sites have popped up too, you can check out them pretty easy by going to the new wiki http://www.ninwiki.com and get the real story. Its really fantastic, with new websites that may still remain to be uncoverred!
