More good news! Cheney is a strong member of the Bush team and almost indespensible. At this rate he will make it through to the end of the term.

Cheney's Heart Condition Is Called Stable
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
WASHINGTON, July 1 (AP) — Vice President Dick Cheney's pacemaker is working properly and his overall heart condition is stable, according to results from his annual physical on Saturday.

Mr. Cheney, 65, who has a long history of heart ailments, had an electrocardiogram and imaging to check on repaired aneurysms on the backs of his knees, his spokeswoman said.

Doctors also checked the condition of his pacemaker, known as an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, which was implanted in June 2001.

Mr. Cheney has had four heart attacks. The first was in 1978 and the fourth on Nov. 22, 2000.

"The vice president's cardiac status remains stable," said his spokeswoman, Lea Anne McBride, who added that his pacemaker was functioning properly and had not treated any arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeat.

Mr. Cheney is scheduled to have a stress test on a treadmill in the fall.

Mr. Cheney, accompanied by his security detail, walked into a rear entrance at George Washington University Medical Center about 7 a.m. He did not speak to reporters and photographers. He left less than three hours later, again making no comments.
