MLK Day?

Post by Midnyte_Ragebringer »

It should be called Civil Rights Day instead. The instead of alienating the other 77% of the population all could unite and get behind such a day.

what the hell is wrong with it. it is named after a proponent of civil rights who despite some flaws was a good man and died for what he believed. the day is to celebrate our movement closer to the ideals he believed in. not just the man himself. by the way he pushed for equality of more than just blacks. he absolutly included whites as well as other races.

Martin Luther King Jr's message was about equality. Why can't we all get behind a message that promotes acceptance and growth and a man who died to try to facilitate that?

You got to think deeper guys.

Why has the seperate President days been combined into one Presidents Day?

Why are there no other federal holidays named after an individual anymore?

Why is MLK the only one that remains?

Not really. Of course, we don't know that Jesus was white. Personally, if he existed I highly doubt he was white considerng the area he was born in.

Why carve 4 Presidents on the side of a rock? Who cares? Why do you want to change it, is it offending anyone? I really want to know.

Why has the seperate President days been combined into one Presidents Day? Because there were too many holidays and the governement, or congress, decided to simplify the calendar by merging them into 1 holiday. Thats why.

Right or wrong, they needed a holiday named after an ethnic person. MLK is certainly worthy person. My vote has always been for George Washington Carver.

MLK: I have a dream!

Carver: Yeah? Well I have 100 uses for a peanut. Dream in one hand and fill the other with peanut butter and see which hand keeps you alive longer when you're stuck in a cave!

MLK: Our people are being oppressed!

Carver: peanut butter...peanut oil...

MLK: wtf is wrong with you?

Carver: peanut bar...peanut brittle...

MLK: fuck you and your peanuts!

Carver: adhesives...axle grease...bleach...buttermilk...chili sauce...ink...instant coffee...linoleum...mayonnaise...meat tenderizer...metal polish...paper...plastic...pavement...shaving cream... shoe polish...synthetic rubber...talcum powder...wood stain...

GWC was the man. MLK lead marches but Carver invented some cool stuff. I'd rather have a scientist than a reverend as the focus of a holiday. At the very least, make it a combo King/Carver day.

Image
George Washington Carver, the wizard with plants, was a true American folk hero. Out of the simple peanut plant, Carver derived three hundred different products; from the sweet potato, he got 118. What other person performed such wizardry with crops, especially in impoverished southern soil? Carver is our most famous chemurgist, and certainly, when we were growing up in the sixties most small children, black and white, could name him by sight. Even today, on the roster of African-American scientists, of whom there are many far too unknown, Carver exceeds everyone else in popularity. He combined thrift and industry, faith, and science to emerge as a kind of a black Horatio Alger figure. And to those who doubted the ability and intelligence of African Americans, Carver was the race's vindication. Though for years he was lauded as the one "token" black scientist, Carver's legacy is indisputable. As a proponent of scientific agriculture, Carver distinguished the study of farming while emphasizing the necessity of environmental conservation. He confronted an increasingly marginal southern economy devastated by war, poor farming, malnutrition, ignorance, and he was able to improve the health and agricultural output of both black and white southern farmers, developing hundreds of uses for a mono-crop economy. He exemplifies the ability to make much out of little----a persistent theme in black history.

* This holiday is designated as "Washington's Birthday" in section 6103(a) of title 5 of the United States Code, which is the law that specifies holidays for Federal employees. Though other institutions such as state and local governments and private businesses may use other names, it is our policy to always refer to holidays by the names designated in the law.

And, Midnyte, if by "73%" you think you include all your brother whiteys, then here's a hearty fuck you. :fist:

Personally I am sick of all this holiday nonsense.

What MLK did was important, but no more important than many other people who contributed important ideas and so on to improve everyones lives. Some quite a bit more significant than what MLK did also.

columbus day, christmas....you have no argument unless your against those too...

MLK was one of the most important figures in the last 200 years of American history, he sure as hell did more good for this world then your Jesus, he never was the inspiration for any crusades or inquisitons, just for a basic and wonderful idea that we are still learning to accept to this day, equality.

Why does the truth hurt you people so much?

In REALITY who truly celebrates MLK Day? Black people. (13% of the population)

Can you grasp the point? Or shall you continue to ask more stupid questions and then when you don't get answers to them make your silly stance? Really. It's almost like many of you are running on a script.

I bet more than 13% of the population celebrate it. Just because you don't doesn't mean the entire nation doesn't either.

You said that it wasn't fair that all the President's day were merged into one. I told you the reason why it happened. Now unless they had MLK day, Malcom X day, Washington Carver day and you wanted to merge all of those into one, I think people would support you. But this is not the case.

You are the most racist/bigoted/homophobic person I know and you seriously need to take a good look at yourself in the mirror, 77% of the population here can agree with me on that.

Midnyte the only person who thinks you are not a racist is you.

The sooner you realize this the sooner you can work on being a decent human being. I would support Christmas being changed to Winter Fest and no longer alienating 95% of the ENTIRE BLOODY WORLD, long before I would mess with MLK day.

Bad enough some states have so many people like you that they are too stupid to take a day off with pay.

What do you know about reality? Evidently nothing. Stop making unfounded statements as if you are a spokesman for non-black America. Maybe if you made an effort to understand why MLK was so important, without automatically pulling the race card, people wouldn't find you so disgusting as a human being. He inspired people OF ALL COLORS at a time of conflict. Try reading his speeches and history you IGNORANT FUCK. As usual, your opinions are based on infantile gut reactions and not on reason.

its ironic that neocons like to call liberals whiners, but Midnyte is the biggest whiner I have ever encountered in my life. Also, pulling the race card is pretty funny too.

Martin Luther King was an amazing man, blessed with courage and a conviction that he carried to the world. Having the day named after him is in and of itself a show of tolerance at the least and acceptance at best.

The polarization you are talking about Mid continues because of mindsets like the one you have.

You know, Racism is so ingrained in Midnytes world that he is unaware of it entirely.

BTW some of you are making asinine assumptions about a political party based on Midnyte, that is unfair. But I must admit that his part of the republican party caused me to go libertarian, but I must in addition point out that there are just as many losers running around representing the democrats.

Remember Crossfire was TWO losers, not just one, and for every Rush Limbaugh there is a Michael Moore.
