Musicians who sound just as good live as in the studio are sorely lacking these days.

I saw Derek play with Clapton earlier this year and it was just amazing.

Trucks is an absolute monster :) He literally has revolutionized slide guitar. He's also quite possibly the hardest working cat right now, carrying slide duties with the Allman Bros, his own band, touring with his wife (Susan Tadeschi), and going on tour with Eric Clapton. He deserves a nice vacation at the end of this year, haha. (btw, faerin...i'm going to see the Clapton show in Houston in march, have heard great stuff)

Another sort of up and coming blues guy, and one of my favorites right now is Joe Bonamassa.

I listed to his new album almost daily right now, it just screams.

Too many puppies!

Les is the best bassist around today. I remember when I first bought Sailing the Seas of Cheese in High School. Since then, I've seen Les Claypool about a dozen times in Bands like Oysterhead with Stewart Copeland and Trey Anastasio, Les's Bucket or Bernie Brains with Bernie Wohrell and Buckethead, The Fearless Flying Frog Brigade with some freak named Enor on lead guitar, and of course Primus. Just recently, they played the Fillmore in Denver and the energy was amazing. I'm too old to mosh, so I stayed above the frey.

Radiohead meets Bluegrass

Chris Thile & friends playing Morning Bell by Radiohead.

Its definitely far from Radiohead, but I like this marriage of two very different styles of music.

Glad you enjoyed it, I just discovered it the day before posting it here.

I like the comment about Chris Thile being the "Jimi" of the mandolin. He really does stretch the limits of how mandolins are played and this is a pretty good example of that.

Far more than many of the others that OD'd in the day, I would have really liked to have heard the work he never got to write.
*edit* he died from being way over wieght, heavy smoker and past wild live style.

I'll be catching Chris Thile at etown in a few weeks. I saw Chris for the first time last year at the High Sierra Music Festival, where he played a play-shop with Bela Fleck. After that, I've been hooked on both Bela and Chris. Both are at the Top of their Game, and I highly suggest checking them out. Chris is sure to be around for a long time to come, but probably not in Nickel Creek. Here's a Britney Spears cover they make their own...

This song from Paolo Nutrini has been getting a lot of play time on the local radio, and I thought it was pretty catchy...

I was going to wait until I had a video to contribute to the thread but that video is gayness in its purist form (no offense to gays).

Still, there's something about the female lead singer that makes me want her. She's got that whole Olivia Newton John thing going on.

Please listen. This is such amazing music.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=2q3fHnKKems

Above is a sample of one of the best live sessions you'll ever hear. It combines African music from the legendary kora player (african stringed instrument) Toumani Diabate with one of the best Spanish flamenco bands (Ketama), and Danny Thompson, who is one of the best living double-bass jazz musicians on this Earth.

Heres's a couple other clips from the same concert:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Lep1tjEIkJc

http://youtube.com/watch?v=kchsHxm93wI

If you're interested in the CD it's called 'Songhai'. There is also a 'Songhai 2', which I own, but haven't listened to as instensely. Both are a must have if you enjoy the original 'Songhai' concert recording. I own both CDs and would gladly send each album or each individual track to anyone who is interested.

Here's another concert Toumani Diabate performed in France. So amazing.
