Ventrilo

Post by Sartori »

When I'm online Aranuil or myself will probably be running a Ventrilo server for chat (for the TR guys!!!). The sound quality is actually really good, the only thing you really need to adjust on the client is volume input/output.

Even if you don't have a headset or some kind of mic, you can use the client to listen to your squad's chatter...

You can get the client at http://www.ventrilo.com

We don't know if we'll be running a server once the in-game voice-feature is added (it will supposedly use Teamspeak 2.0). We'll see how it goes.

The patch notes for Thursday said that they implemented voice chat.

I have a stupid question here...or maybe a series of stupid questions regarding the voice chats in games like this. (This is my first FPS game in all reality)

If you use a headset, do all the sounds from the game go through the headset or can you set it up in some way to send just the chat through the headset and game sounds through the speakers?

Would I really be better off just buying a microphone of some sort and letting it all come through the speakers?

I think it would all go through the headset unless you run the chat software on a separate comp like I do. Having it integrated will make that a bitch to do though.

Anybody have a good recommendation for a headset? I had the MS GameVoice or whatever at one point but I seem to have lost half of it during a move so I'm just going to buy something new.

My roommate and I still use GameVoice :)

It makes it easier than yelling across the apartment when we're in FPS's :p

I have a pair of Sony DR-G250s that I picked up from CompUSA for $20. I love them. They fold up, so they're easy to transport, and they're comfortable too.

Sart and I have been using Ventrilo effectively to defend/coordinate attacks, and it's made a huge difference.

Incidentally, I'll be of course testing what they put into the game, but of the products I've tested so far (Gamevoice, Teamspeak, Ventrilo) Ventrilo doesn't necessarily have all of the features, but the performance and voice quality are by far the best.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

Well, you don't HAVE to use the GameVoice software with the hardware :)

I don't think I have actually used the software for it in a long time.

It's going in in the next patch apparently, along with joystick support.

I have downloaded the ventrilo client and installed it and got a mic/headset. Now how do I set it up so that I can use it on the same channel that everyone else will be on?
