PS4 game delayed again. I sense a trend!
A) Oooo three whole weeks!
B) Not a Sony studio
C) Also not a PS4 exclusive. Maybe the PC version is the holdup!

PS4 stealing Xbox Lives reputation system. Copycats!
It's a survey. Nothing has been implemented or 'stolen' at this juncture as you put it.

I would like the option to change my username though so hopefully that gets implemented. Mine was basically autogenerated on XBL due to every name I tried being taken and I don't really like it. When I signed up for PSN I should have gone with something else!

Other than that pretty much everything on that survey would be good to implement.

Might as well port the rep system over to the console that people area actually buying and able to use consistently. Not like rep matters of you can't create /sign in to a live account.

Finally a good PS4 game: (probably looks like dogshit on the Wii U!)

Pretty, although I prefer the default chess pieces. I don't want to waste time figuring out what the pieces are.

The PS4 version will look better than the WiiU version for the same reasons that games look better than the Xbone versions. It's simply more powerful.

Only until DirectX 12 comes out and DOUBLES XBOX ONE PERFORMANCE and leaves PS4 crying in its dust.

This is a bit forced, but absolutely priceless. Big Bang Theory on PS4 vs Xbox One.

No thanks. I've hated that show since forever. I honestly don't understand its appeal but hey not every show can be Seinfeld I guess!

Yeah. Add Big Bang Theory to the list of not even remotely funny shows, along with The Office, It's Never Funny in Philadelphia, etc etc.

Big Bang Theory and The Office both had a few good seasons. No one was shot and no rap/gangster stuff.

Well for one thing it has a laugh track. So for me that's already a huge negative. I don't need to be told what it supposed to be funny or not.

Obviously some shows can overcome that. The IT Crowd (and even Seinfeld!) being a good example. However most don't! BBT is average at best so the laugh track only brings that rating down for me.

BBT does NOT have a laugh track. Filmed in front of a studio audience.

Europe Weekly, 5th April 2014

PS4 64,034 (-1%)
3DS 35,097 (+5%)
PS3 21,934 (-7%)
XOne 17,376 (-8%)
X360 11,866 (+5%)
PSV 11,323 (-7%)
WiiU 8,264 (-8%)
PSP 5,773 (-4%)
Wii 4,470 (-8%)
As expected the Titanfall surge has come and went while PS4 keeps on selling every unit they can make. Not bad for a console with no exclusives. Which apparently is a thing.

And sure the PS4 is out in more countries but who really thinks those other countries are going to help the competition out that much? Fools, that's who!

Even the PS3 outsold a certain new-gen console from Microsoft!

Sony announced it's selling its entire stake of 9.52 million shares in Square Enix, with the PlayStation company booking a gain of 4.8 billion yen (around $47 million) in the current fiscal quarter. At the time of writing, Sony is the third-largest shareholder in Square Enix with an sizable equity of 8.2 percent.

Sony says it's agreed to sell the shares to SMBC Nikko Securities Inc, one of Japan's leading financial security companies; the sale price will be disclosed tomorrow. We'll learn more of the reasons behind the sale when Sony announces its full-year financial results on May 14.

While the PS4 is doing better than expected, Sony's financial troubles of late have seen the company enact numerous changes to its operations. Following the sale of its Tokyo offices and several thousands of layoffs, earlier this year Sony announced plans to sell off its Vaio PC business and overhaul its TV arm into its own subsidiary. Those moves will result in a further 5,000 layoffs over the next year or so.
I can't fault them for selling Square Enix shares based on their FFXIII product and long ass delays of Versus (turned into FFXXV)

As we mentioned last month during GDC, we’ll be releasing a major system software update for PS4 that will add some exciting new features that many of you have been asking for. Today, I’m pleased to announce a few of those features from PS4 system software update (v1.70) will be available soon, including features that were incorporated as a result of your great feedback. This will be a significant update, and today we’re excited to bring you a sneak peek of just a few things you can look forward to.

The 1.70 update will enable SHAREfactory, our new rich video editor app for PS4 that makes it easy for you to customize your gameplay videos:

With SHAREfactory, you can now easily combine your captured video clips for editing, personalize them with special effects using filters, transitions, and themes, as well as share them with your friends and social networks. SHAREfactory also allows you to personalize your videos by adding text, stickers, and a set of included audio tracks, as well as video commentary with picture-in-picture capability with PlayStation Camera. It also allows you to import your original music to add to the custom soundtrack for your video.

Take Your Share Anywhere
Once you’re done with your masterpiece, you can easily share your SHAREfactory videos to Facebook, or export them to an external USB storage device to upload them elsewhere, another new feature coming as part of the 1.70 system software update. Other PS4 SHARE enhancements include the ability to change the recording time of your gameplay to shorter increments, the ability to change who you share your clips with on the SHARE screen, and the removal of default saves for screenshots and video clips. In addition to these SHARE enhancements, the 1.70 update will allow you switch off HDCP, enabling you to capture video directly from your HDMI output so you can record and share longer clips of your gameplay sessions — a feature I know many of you have been waiting for. We are excited to see what the PlayStation Nation does with these new social features, and cannot wait to get them into your hands!

Play as Soon as the Game is Released
Providing you with immediate access to your games is a priority designed into PS4, and something we will always strive to make better. We’ve had a great response from PS4 fans about the Play as You Download feature, the snappy load times when launching and playing games, and the general speed and responsiveness of the UI. The 1.70 update adds features to build on this idea and make it faster to play the games you pre-order with an auto pre-download capability, which allows you to pre-download your select pre-ordered game up to several days prior to release. If you have the auto-download feature enabled, it will automatically pre-download your pre-ordered game so you can play as soon as the game is unlocked on release day.

As I mentioned earlier, some of these features were a direct result of the great feedback we’ve been getting from you, our dedicated gamer community. We enjoy listening to your comments, and encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts with us. And this is just the beginning. We’ve got a lot more coming in PS4 system software update v1.70 and beyond. The PS4 experience will constantly evolve, and new innovative ideas can come from anywhere to ensure the platform continues to deliver the best in gaming and entertainment every time you turn it on.

We’ll have more information to share about new upcoming features for this major system software update as the release approaches, so stay tuned!

Pre-ordering digital will actually have a benefit now. Curious how they do the timezones though. Will everything be tied to PST so games will unlock 3:00AM EST? Not sure how well that will go over but I guess that's really no different than how it is done now. Just another disadvantage of digital! At least you'll be able to download it in advance though.

Right now it's 12 Midnight PST. I saw somewhere that Sony acknowledged complaints from least coast people about it being unfair that they have to wait until 3am. Waaaaa. Since they probably can't lock purchases by time zone, only by store region (US/Euro/Asia), they probably have to stick to best coast at midnight unless they figure out a way to do that. Too easy to change IP by VPN or change clock or whatever.

I'm OK with it being 9 PM PST/12 Mid EST but I'm sure there's some sort of contract with retail stores, etc about release times that may need to be addressed.

They could solve the problem by making it 12 midnight Hawaii time so that everyone in the US gets it early in the morning when they wake up.

Yeah.. The PS4 has no games.. Uh. Oh wait.. That's the XBO!

PS4 is for the gamers! No idea what the XBO is for.. Waving and yelling at your TV and hoping it eventually does what you want it to probably.

It would appear that console sales themselves are also following the games available trend. Microsoft isn't saying the amount sold, only shipped at this point, of 5 million. Sony has said its sold number is 7 million. But the same articles also show XBO's game attachment rate is about 3 games per console purchase, which is really good.

In other news, both consoles are successes, apparently!

Take away all those little indie games no one buys and you're left with better games on the Xbox One, that gamers enjoy playing because they buy more games per console for the Xbox One.

It's proven over the past gen that 360's were used more for "gaming" instead of watching netflix and other non gaming related things. Xbox added more multimedia because that's what PS3 owners liked to do it seems.

Sony just had a decent marketing/brainwashing campaign to convince it's users they were gamers even though their habits would make the Xbox One the better choice.

I'm really surprised that the Xbox One didn't receive the pinball games at the very least. The Zen Pinball tables look amazing with the increased graphics.
I'm actually amazed that things like Fez, Trine 2, Towerfall, Chess, Dynasty Warriors, and MLB: The Show didn't cross over either. Well, at least not yet. Things like Daylight, Outlast, FF, ect seem more like the type of exclusives I would expect from Sony, not all the previously cross platform stuff. Hell, I have Trine 2 on my WiiU.

The Show is done by Sony San Diego so... You might be waiting awhile before that's on XBO.

Ironically, those guys I end up playing mostly on either the Vita because of PSN or on PC (with a 360 controller) because of the Humble Bundle. I really need to put more time into Strike Suit Zero though. That one is right up my alley buy I never put any real time into it.

Could Uncharted 4 be in trouble? Signs point to "yes"

Something's going down behind closed doors at Naughty Dog, and it doesn't bode well. It all started with the departure of Amy Hennig in March, who had been the writer and director of the Uncharted series; she's now working on an unannounced Star Wars project at Visceral Games. Later that month, Justin Richmond, the game director on the upcoming Uncharted game for PS4, left Naughty Dog for Riot Games.

Today, we're hit with a one-two punch of troubling Naughty Dog news: Nate Wells, the lead artist on The Last of Us, is moving to indie developer Giant Sparrow, and the only known character confirmed for Uncharted PS4 has been recast, following the departure of writer and actor Todd Stashwick, who will be joining Hennig at Visceral. It all begs the question: Just what in the hell is going on over there?

Sigh, more issues with a PS4 exclusive.

The console sure sells well though!

I wouldn't be worried about staff movement after 3 titles in a series. Hell, Microsoft lost all of Bungie in 1 shot and yet Halo 4 was still a pretty great game.

Signs point to stupid people making stupid news items.
Winnow wrote:Sigh, more issues with a PS4 exclusive.
Who gives a shit about "issues" a game may or may not encounter during development. It doesn't even have a release date and is more than likely two years away. If the game sucks when it does come out then one can point to issues that happened early on. Until then it's just a bunch of pointless gossip.

Rumors: PS4 Getting MP3 Playback Soon, Latest Firmware Build Has Unannounced Features; 1.7 on the 30th
MP3 sooooon! If true I guess that will be one more thing the PS4 does that their competition doesn't since on that other system you can't store or play MP3s on the console itself.

Basically not much more than what was already announced:
PlayStation 4 v1.70 Update

- SHAREfactory: After you update your PS4 to v1.70, an icon to download our free SHAREfactory app will appear on your PS4 system’s home screen once it’s available. Once installed, SHAREfactory allows you to easily customize your gameplay videos with special effects, video commentary with picture-in-picture capability through PlayStation Camera, and custom soundtracks using the included audio tracks or your original music imported from a USB drive. You can then share your videos on Facebook or export them to an external USB storage device. The app is packed with plenty of cool, but accessible, tools. It’s simple enough to use for beginning editors, while functioning as a rich video editor for those with more creative aspirations.

- Automatic Pre-download: No more waiting until after a game is released to start downloading select pre-ordered games from PlayStation Store. This new feature allows you to get to your games faster by automatically downloading select pre-ordered games up to several days in advance of the release, so that it’s ready to play as soon as the game is released on launch day. There’s also a countdown timer prior to the release of the game so you’ll know how soon your game will be available for you to start playing.

- Option to Disable HDCP for Games: This highly requested feature will allow you to have the option to turn off HDCP for games so you can capture longer gameplay sessions directly from your HDMI output and export them elsewhere.

- USB Export Option for Captured Gameplay: It’s now even easier to show off your heroic gaming moments and the SHAREfactory videos you create with the world using this feature to export your videos and screenshots to a USB drive. Just click on the DUALSHOCK 4 SHARE button, save your gameplay on a USB drive, and then share your proudest achievements on other social networks and other video platforms.

- Live Broadcasting in HD and Archiving Support: We’ve increased the resolution for live broadcasts so you and your friends can watch games livestreamed in 720p HD. You can also archive your broadcasts on Twitch or Ustream and watch them again later.

- New SHARE Options: We’ve got a number of new SHARE settings that will give you better control of what you want to share with your friends. Here is what you can look forward to:
. Change the default gameplay recording time in the SHARE menu under Video Clip Settings.
. Save only the video clips and screenshots you want by selecting Upload Screenshots or Upload Video Clips for each capture. Also upload video clips and screenshots during your live gameplay broadcasts.
. Select specific Facebook audiences to share each video or screenshot with.

- New DUALSHOCK 4 Options: New light bar settings have been added for DUALSHOCK 4, allowing you to change it to Bright, Medium or Dim in the Settings menu. The touchpad has also been updated, allowing you to navigate the on-screen keyboard using the DUALSHOCK 4 touchpad.

- New Friends Options: It’s now easier to find Friends and send requests with the ability to search Friends-of-Friends, view Mutual Friends on another user’s profile, and accept Friend requests directly from the Friends list.

- New Trophies Sort Option: You can now sort Trophies by rarity in the Options menu.

- PlayStation Store Payment Support: Similar to PS3, we’re introducing Alternative Payment Methods (APMs) for PS4 for content purchased on PS Store, starting with PayPal support.

- More PlayStation Camera Commands: More voice commands are added to PlayStation Camera, allowing you to launch the apps installed on your PS4 with the sound of your voice.

- New PlayStation Plus Icon: For Plus members, you’ll now have the PS Plus icon appear next to your SEN ID on the login screen, home screen and other areas across the PS4 system’s sleek user interface.

- Music Unlimited SHARE Options: With a Music Unlimited subscription, you can easily share your favorite songs with your friends by pressing the SHARE button on your DUALSHOCK 4.

PlayStation Vita v3.15 Update

- PS4 Link Update for Remote Play: Linking your PS4 and PS Vita together will now be easier with the 3.15 update for PS Vita. It’ll enable Automatic Device Registration, which will automatically detect and pair both systems when they’re both online and the same user is signed in to both devices. This makes it even quicker for you to get started on Remote Play or access other second screen features.

It's disappointing that most of the Vita updates are to make it a better dumb terminal for the PS4 than improving the product itself. It's a great little machine by itself.

Today at an indie-focused press event outside of San Francisco, Sony revealed a bunch of new indie games that'll be coming to PS4 and other PlayStation systems. The current list: Axiom Verge will be coming to PS4 and Vita, with PS4 versions coming for Escape Goat 2, Ironclad Tactics, Apotheon, the well-liked fencing game Nidhogg, Skulls of the Shogun Bone-A-Fide Edition, Starwhal: Just the Tip, Jamestown Plus, Drifter, Chasm, Source, and beloved roguelike Spelunky.
Spelunky! I'll get that free since it's cross buy and I have it on the PS3. A lot of those others I haven't heard of!

Metro Redux on PS4 runs at 1080p/60 FPS and on Xbox One at 900p/60 FPS
Things like this aren't even news anymore.. It's just reality!
The PlayStation 4 is already profitable for Sony on a hardware unit basis, president and CEO Kazuo Hirai announced during its corporate strategy meeting this week.

"It's been a hugely successful launch, but the key to the long term success of the platform lies in how solidly we can continue to grow the installed base," Hirai said. "In terms of game titles for PS4, as of April 13, 47 titles had been launched with a total of 20.5 million units being sold via retailers and over the network on the PlayStation Store. From a profitability perspective, PS4 is also already contributing profit on a hardware unit basis, establishing a very different business framework from that of previous platform businesses."
At least something at Sony is making a profit!

The Order: 1886 delayed until 2015
http://www.joystiq.com/2014/05/27/the-o ... _truncated

Will we ever see another AAA exclusive on the PS4 again? OMG!1!11

Seriously though, with so few exclusives (even on Xbox One) this is bad news.

DELAYED! Wait. When did it ever have an official release date? Oh that's right... It didn't. Some vague target ("late 2014") doesn't constitute a release date.

Sony is very good about not providing hard dates to hide all of the delays. Sneaky.

Next it will be "sometime this decade"

Sony to foot the bill for exhibiting devs in Tokyo Game Show 2014's Indie Game Area

The Indie Game Area, a dedicated space for independent developers, will be free for exhibitors at Tokyo Game Show 2014 courtesy of PlayStation.

The area is being sponsored by Sony Computer Entertainment, who will cover the 99,900 yen bill (approximately $980) for each exhibitor over the course of four days. Developers are allowed to display games on any platform.

"The Indie Game Area is an exhibition area for independent game developers," the event's site reads. "This area gives game developers the opportunity to exhibit games for every platform at an affordable exhibition fee with the objective of creating new movements in the computer entertainment industry."
Regardless of platform! Good guy Sony.

Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare Hits PS4, PS3 on 8/19

For support-minded players, the popular Boss Mode feature will also be playable as a companion experience on mobile devices via the PlayStation App. Lastly but certainly not least, split screen co-op will be available on PS4.

Ever since we announced Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare at E3 last year, we’ve frequently heard the question: “When is PvZ Garden Warfare coming to PlayStation?” I’m ecstatic to finally be able to answer that question, as we’ve just announced that PvZ Garden Warfare is coming to PS3 and PS4 on August 19th, 2014! PlayStation fans will also be able to experience the Garden Variety and Zomboss Down expansion content from day one
No surprise there. Everyone knew it was a timed exclusive. Apparently that time was 6 months!

Better resolution too? Shocking.

It's an awesome game. If you have a PS4, you need to play this. It's great fun.

Has Sony Been Intentionally Misleading Consumers and Investors About PlayStation 4's Software Release Schedule?

The PlayStation 4's game lineup for the year just took a big hit. The Order: 1866 from developer Ready at Dawn had been positioned as one of the new console's defining 2014 games, but a recent announcement has shifted the title to a 2015 release. While the game's delay is not exactly shocking, the release pushback is the latest in a run that have hit the console. In fact, delays of major PS4 titles have become so common that it's worth wondering whether their respective initial release dates were ever targeted as realistic possibilities. Has Sony (NYSE: SNE ) been intentionally misleading about the PS4's lineup as a way to build hype and interest in the system?

Sony talked a big game, but has yet to deliver

Sony is showing clear weakness on the first-party development front. What's more, the frequent delays for its console's biggest exclusives give reason to view plans for future releases with a suspect eye. When the company first explained its transition from free to paid online service, representatives were quick to point to the fact that PlayStation Plus subscribers would receive an almost full version of the upcoming racer Driveclub at no additional cost. The game was originally stated to be a launch title for PS4, but was delayed to an early 2014 date.

Prospective consumers were reassured that they would still have access to a downloadable version of the game that had most of the content. However, when Driveclub's new October release date was announced, the story had changed. PlayStation Plus subscribers will now be able to download what essentially amounts to a sizable demo of the game.

Hype sells games, consoles, and online services

Sony over-promised with the PlayStation Plus version of Driveclub, relative to what it will eventually deliver, and it's easy to see why. When PlayStation 4 was first unveiled, one of the chief criticisms levied against the new platform was that online play would now require a paid subscription.

Flashback to before the PlayStation 4's explosive sales debut, and Sony had a lot to be uncertain about. Microsoft's (NASDAQ: MSFT ) Xbox Live had been substantially more successful than the PlayStation Network in the previous generation, and a thriving online service was even more central to winning the current console competition. A "free" game with triple-A production values stood as a great incentive to get early adopters to join Sony's online ecosystem. While the product has yet to arrive, the promise was somewhat effective.

The same delay problem is evident in Japan

The PlayStation 4's Japanese launch suffered from a similar delay problem. When Sony's newest console was first unveiled, by far its most impressive graphical showcase was Capcom's Deep Down. The free-to-play title was originally slated for release this past February, but it no longer has a firm release date. Unfortunately for Sony, the game is one of the few PS4 titles with the chance to spur Japanese interest in the system. The title's lengthy delay has become part of a suspicious trend.

Out of order

The news that The Order: 1866 had slipped to a 2015 release offered little in the way of shock value. The game's first showings prompted speculation that the title was too early in development to make its 2014 holiday release date. Given the degree of access Sony has to its first-party development projects, it's hard to believe that the company thought the title was on track for release this year. The game's absence points to a fairly weak lineup of exclusives for 2014.

The PlayStation 4 will receive the best console version of many of the year's biggest multi-platform releases, but right now, Driveclub looks to stand as the title's only big exclusive for the year. Considering key departures from premier developer Naughty Dog, plus layoffs and project cancellations at Santa Monica Studios, the are real reasons to be worried about Sony's first-party output in this hardware cycle.

Sony coming up short is an opportunity for Microsoft

Sony will probably pad out its PS4 lineup for the rest of the year with indie titles, many of which will be shown at June's E3 gaming expo. That said, Microsoft looks to enjoy a window of opportunity to regain some mind share and favorable consumer sentiment. It's still uncertain whether Xbox One exclusive Quantum Break will release in this calendar year, but Sunset Overdrive from Insomniac Games has the potential to make a splash. A remade version of Halo 2 and a Halo HD collection have been heavily rumored for a 2014 release. If Microsoft's Xbox One is to catch up to the PlayStation 4, this holiday season will be a key proving ground.

Has Sony been sneaky?

It's difficult to chalk three of PS4's biggest exclusive games being so substantially delayed up to coincidence. Early adopters aren't just shelling out cash for the hardware -- what they are really buying into is access to content and the promise of things to come. Sony's promising and repromising has the appearance of strategy.

I picked up 1000 shares of SNE this morning at ~16.05/share average price on the basis that there a lot of gullible idiots out there. With Sony planning a big E3 Event on June 9th and broadcasting it live in theaters across the country, they're bound to make some wild ass announcements that will later be delayed. It doesn't matter though. The masses will eat it up, completely forgetting that their launch title and free PN+ Driver's Club title is nowhere to be seen and now has a gimped "free" part. I'll sell the shares late next week. Sony will announce one billion indie games and people will think it matters. With's SNE's pathetic market cap which is barely higher than what Facebook paid for a mobile app (WhatsApp), any price below $16 and Sony becomes a potential buyout candidate or even a hostile takeover. Most of the shit has already hit the fan with Sony. They're ready for a steady climb.

Sony's streaming service is due for some announcements at E3.

I'd be impressed if Sony announced at E3 that Morpheus would be released by holiday season 2015. While I'm fired up to get my OR VR headset next month, I don't think the consumer version of Oculus will be out until next year sometime and probably not until 2nd half of 2015 so Sony has a chance to be in the initial batch of VR headsets. I think Sony will do a good job with VR Cinema/Theater which is one of the main things I'm interested in viewing in VR.

There's a slim chance that Sony might announce something like a Picop projector accessory for their Vita. They're very active in developing an ASIC chip for Microvision's mems laser projector and also make the green laser diodes for it so I'm sure they'll want to start capitalizing on their partnership.

Seems a dumb article. HAS MS BEEN A DUMBO ABOUT THE KINECT? Just as valid.

People really rushed out and bought PS+ because of DriveClub? I find that hard to believe. The service more than pays for itself. If the lack of one game is distressing to people then they are just a bunch of whiney whiners.

May’s NPD numbers are out, and Sony Computer Eentertainment sent in a press release commenting on just another month in which the PS4 left behind its rival Microsoft in unit sales for the United States.

Senior Vice President of PlayStation Brand Marketing Guy Longworth shared the company’s victorious statement:
PlayStation continues to be the best place to play for innovative IP, as PS4 was the preferred platform for May’s biggest releases, including Watch Dogs and Wolfenstein: The New Order, and held four of the top five spots for next gen software sales. PS4 is the leading next-gen platform for sports, highlighted in May by the best-selling sports game, MLB 14: The Show.
I thought PlayStation owners didn't buy games?

There is really no mystery here since who would have bought an XBO in May knowing that there would be a cheaper version (assuming one didn't want Kinect) coming the following month? June will be more interesting with the $400 XBO being available. It might be Microsoft's last chance to reclaim North America!

Mario Kart 8 outselling all but Watch Dogs was the real news IMO. Sony outselling MS happens every day and is nothing special or unexpected at all.
