Re: P3P
It's a typical MegaTen RPG.
Instead of Demons, you utilize Personas for you skills and magic.
The only real downgrades from the PS2 version are that the animated cutscenes were ripped out and navigating the school/dorm/etc environments is now a point and click interface.
An astonishing amount of voiceovers remain intact (all of which are top notch).
Load times are lightning fast.
In battles you now can have manual control of individual characters. The lack of this was my biggest pet peeve with previous SMT: Persona games.
There's also the option to playthrough as a male or female character. Much of the game is based around social interations so playing a different gender is not just superficial.
If you've never played a MegaTen game, you're really missing out.
They are so different from your typical fantasy or japanese RPG. It's almost like they are developed in a vaccuum.
None of the tired and cliched rpg conventions are present.
Persona3 was the last PS2 game I finished.
I never played the upgraded FES but a lot of the upgrades and improvements have been crammed into P3P.

Re: P3P
I was just doing some comparison shopping online and the PSN version is 5$ cheaper than anything else I could find.
Apparently this one loads a LOT of stuff off the UMD so digital download may be the way to go. I'm considering picking up the larger PSP battery as well. The default one that came with it just doesn't give me a satisfactory amount of juice for my tastes.

Re: P3P
You can install it on the memory stick if you buy the UMD... you still need the disk to play.
The dowload is just a little over a gig.

Re: P3P
Bought it yesterday off the PSN. This is a pretty fun game. Haven't gotten far enough in to get my head around all the mechanics available but this game is right up my alley.
I went to a few stores yesterday doing some comparison shopping for a few things and I only saw this game at one of them and it was more expensive than the download version.

Re: P3P
Interestingly enough, P3P is the highest rated game on metacritic for the PSP at the moment.

Re: P3P
I'm tempted to try it, but 30-40 dollars is a little too much for me for a handheld game. I just don't play it enough (half hour to a hour here and there) to justify it.

Re: P3P
From playing yesterday, once you get past all the intro stuff, this game is really playable in the 30 min to hour chunks. Save points are frequent and if you need to just drop out quickly, flick the power switch and send it to standby.
One thing I noticed is that the game really killed my battery fast on my PSP3000. Not sure if the game is doing a lot of stuff or my battery is starting to suck badly and not retain a charge. I'm pretty sure my battery was full when I started and I got 2-3 hours before It told me I needed to charge. I ordered the extended battery kit yesterday and will be recieving that early this week.

Eh, we'll see. Maybe I'll grab it after I get back from Japan. Assuming I come back.

Just over a year old actually. Got in in June of 09. I gave it a full charge last night (off my PC through USB, couldn't find my AC adapter) so I'll test it out some more today.

Re: P3P
This game was phenomenal on PS2, even if the Tartarus grind was a bit of a snore. It sounds like the portable version's new playable MC, frequent save points and interface changes more than make up for the graphical limitations, and removal of cutscenes. Most of the anime cutscenes looked like ass anyway. $40 is a steal for so much RPG.

Re: P3P
It ended up being Belzebub. That one kicked all sorts of ass. I'm also kinda cheezed that I only found out about the free accessories when you max-level your persona's with the heart. That would've saved me from quite a few instances where I was getting insta-killed.
I've sparked up a New Game + using the female character now to go through the other dialogues and try to get to 100% of the personas however I'll be playing a lot less intensely than I did the first time around.

Re: P3P
Always go with a persona with resist light and dark.
I've trying out a lot of the rare persona combos this time.
Most of them are pretty kickass, but I'm primarily using Alice.
Die For Me! is the best skill ever.
I'm also leveling up Koru and Ken.
On the PS2, I used the typical Mitsuru, Junpei and Yukari combo.
