Post something funny/entertaining from youtube. Ideally something a lot of people haven't already seen... unless it's Ms. South Carolina as that's always funny.

BTW, can we embed you tube videos in a YOU TUBE thread or are people still going to hyperventilate over it?

It avoids being Rick Rolled for one thing! Come on people! It's almost 2008. You Tube videos are embedded all over the fucking place.

Banned Commercials are funny most of the time.

Why would people bitch about embedded youtube videos?

I prefer them that way so my lazy ass doesn't have to click a link to be honest.

because some of us work for employers that don't like seeing things like youtube videos running on their network. Links don't show up on the radar unless clicked.

even Bagar agrees with me.

Unless VV is the only site you visit from work, you're bound to hit tons of sites that have embedded YouTube videos, and other forms of embedded videos. Plenty of business/commercial sites have YouTube videos embedded in them. Blogs all over the place have YouTube. It's common stuff these days.

Your company's web blocker app should be smart enough to block YouTube if they have a problem with it. Mine is and people don't get fired if they go to a site that has an embedded YouTube, it's just blocked.

There's a very easy [youtube][/youtube] BBCode add-in for phpBB but you can edit my post above and see how to embedd YouTube videos using the [flash] BBCode.

I think there's a way to disable Flash if you want. Maybe there's a way to disable [YouTube]. As I've always said, the more options the better. Disable embedded images while you're at it. You never know what site they're linked from. Could be trouble!

I haven't run across any other sites that have imbedded YouTube on them. I don't troll for kiddie porn like you, so that could be why. YouTube IS blocked. Sites with multiple attempts to pull images/video from YouTube are just waiting to get blocked. There was already a way to disable flash, but there was not a way to disable youtube commands. You knew that shit, because we discussed it when flash was enabled.

Yeah, I know all about the discussion we had and don't see any examples I linked that had kiddie porn in them. It's tech sites with product demos, interviews, nerd podcasts, etc.

So you don't go to Gizmodo at work? I find it hard to believe with the proliferation of YouTube that you don't go to any sites that have it embedded. IT departments will know that as well and should just block it as those nerds go to tech sites with YouTube embedded.

I don't roll with a MySpace page like half of you so don't see all the emo videos that you probably think dominate YouTube.

You shouldn't be surfing at work anyway. Get back to work!

So you want VV to get banned at his work, so you can have embedded videos, for no other reason than "it's almost 2008" ? And your counter argument is what you think IT departments who monitor employees should do? What the fuck is with you sometimes, Winnow?

I often have to go to Travelers Insurance's main office. They block a large portion of the internet, including gizmodo and most tech sites. Veeshanvault is not blocked, but Youtube is. Every time an embedded Youtube is attempted to load on their network, instead it takes you to the damn "unauthorized website" page, because it tried to load something from Youtube and didn't know what to do with the rejections in the embedded video. Luckily, I mostly use a card from Verizon, VPN to work, and do all of my work (and thus internet browsing) there. However, I wanted to illustrate how just because you think something should be one way, the real world is different.

Winnow, stop being a selfish prick. Don't give me any "it would be great for the site," "it would benefit anyone" crap, no one else complains about it, or seems to care that they have to click links (hey, you have to click the embedded video too, but you get to see a still screen first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW AWESOME). We talked about it in a previous thread (linked above), came to the conclusion it could prevent some useful members of the board from browsing, and decided against it. Also, embedded Youtube have never stopped people from Rick Rolling other people (though I kinda enjoy this internet fad, as far as internet fads go)

No dickhead. YouTube is banned by default. That doesn't ban the site that has an embedded YouTube. Gizmodo works fine at my place of employment. The YouTube videos embedded are blocked though.

So you want to fuck your mother? Wait...am I putting words into your mouth too now? Kinda fun to just make up shit.

If someone wanted to ban VV, they could email Websense and suggest they add it to their blacklist. It depends on the filter level, etc.

http://www.websense.com/SupportPortal/Contact.aspx

I googled for someone that had their site banned by websense for embedding a YouTube video but couldn't find one. Is Gizmodo filtered? (it may be filtered for other reasons but I'm curious) That site pumps out multiple embedded YouTube videos daily.

OK Winnow. I'm not putting words in your mouth, I'm using what you said in your posts, and Booghaz responses to that (which you have thus far completely disregarded in both this thread and the previous one where we talked about the same issue) to make a statement. You want embedded Youtube videos. As quoted in the videos above (here it is again though) " YouTube IS blocked. Sites with multiple attempts to pull images/video from YouTube are just waiting to get blocked. There was already a way to disable flash, but there was not a way to disable Youtube commands. You knew that shit, because we discussed it when flash was enabled." So, you're again campaigning for embedded videos, when this problem still exists, and you have been previously told of it. So you're campaigning for something that will get VV banned from another users work.

So Winnow, where did I put words in your mouth? I see where I put my dick in your mouth, but not words.

Well, and I hope I'm not being a picky little cunt, but wasn't the thread title of: Post something good from youtube! enough to keep people away from it, when they're in an office that doesn't allow any reference to youtube to appear in your browsing logs?

WTF are you talking about? I hope you're not in the legal business because you assume way too much. Where have you seen that sites that have embedded YouTube videos are "just waiting to be blocked"? I at least attempted to find somewhere on the net that had been blocked due to embedding a YouTube video and couldn't find one. Your argument is based purely on shit as it stands.

At least check to see if Gizmodo is blocked at your work (whoever has websense) or if just the YouTube videos embedded are blocked.

YouTube is all over the place, especially the tech sites which happen to be the sites least likely to be blocked by websense. Unless your IT department is checking the YouTube links, they are made up of random code URLs so you don't know if it's a tech demo video of one of Kwon's big ass girls. They may choose to block YouTube, but YouTube is so popular on the net, they aren't going to blink at a YouTube request, otherwise people would be getting notices all the time. Your IT department isn't going to check a YouTube link because they might get Rick Rolled!

BTW Winnow, 2008 means MORE shit will be being blocked, not less. It also means more employee assrape for viewing shit that's blocked, even if it's accidentally.

I can't even get to fucking Gmail when I'm on my work network, even though Gmail's AV software blocks more shit than the poorly managed IT staff I have now.

You can always bypass your work network altogether and use an iPhone to surf. I'd buy an iPhone if it ever became an issue.

Mobile net access will only get better and cheaper, spurred on even more if companies crack down on net access more than they already have. You can already directly access youTube videos from iTouch and iPhones.

Note: I just accessed VV via my iTouch/Safari. The embedded YouTubes didn't launch but the linked ones opened the YouTube app and played the videos. It's not ideal but surfing around on the iTouch/Phone isn't bad at all (it's all about the on the fly portrait/landscape rotation and finger zooming), especially if you're at work and just want to read and make a short post.

As son as Microvision has their PicoP integrated into a Motorola phone, you'll be able to project VV onto the back of your boss's head. (Boss's, strange looking works with three "s", but it's correct!)

What I'm getting out of this is that Boogahz is saying "dude, if we embed videos, my work will ban VV." And Winnow is responding with "no, that's not true, because if it is then I think your IT department is making bad decisions."

I happen to think that Boogahz probably knows his own workplace better than Winnow does. I also happen to think that some IT departments ARE stupid, and that Winnow is unlikely to be able to deduce what the IT policies of someone elses company are by thinking about what he thinks those policies should be. I also think it's not too much of a fucking inconvenience to click a link to get to a video-- you know you have to click on the embedded videos too, right? It's the same number of clicks! I also happen to think that telling someone to buy an iPhone to use to surf the internet at work is stupid. I also happen to think that Rick Rolling is the most retarded internet fad I can remember. It's been all downhill since 'all your base are belong to us.'

In conclusion, I basically think that Winnow should shut the fuck up. We have to balance the preferences of some users to have embedded videos, the benefit of which is that you get to see a thumbnail of a youtube video before you watch it, against the preferences of other users to not have VV banned at the place where they access it. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Here's a video of Dwight Howard elevating over Tim Duncan to throw down an alley-oop inbounds pass from half-court to win a game.

Theres also a bunch of Rick Roll videos which have a different embedded start, so you can't tell you're being Rick Rolled. I don't think Rick Rolling is funny at all, except that I personally enjoy that video (I asked a few people for an all denim outfit, with pants that go to my sternum, for Christmas).

My favorite youtube videos:

If I am having a bad day, I watch the following 2 videos:

Sheldon Brown jacking up Reggie Bush
This is why duke sucks

Other favorites:

Practice? We're talking about practice?
Allen Iverson steps over Tyronn Lue

And the best video on Youtube (not the commercial version, which is funny but not as good):
We let them off the hook

Hey Winnow, I had some more questions about the way Booghaz's network security works, I was curious if you could use google to help me out later. Thanks in advance.

From last week's Xmas episode on 30 Rock:

Buck Henry is playing Liz Lemon's father who is visiting NYC with the rest of the family for the holidays. You can see the full episode at NBC's 30 Rock site

Booger didn't say his IT department was banning shit for embedded YouTubes, he was just speculating as far as I can tell as are the rest of the comments here. I haven't seen anything yet that shows embedded YouTube videos have caused issues at work.

Uh, dude...
Boog wrote:I would prefer links as well! Too many embedded YouTube videos could start flagging this site for banination by my employer!
Sylvus wrote:Exactly what Boogahz said. A url link on a page doesn't get flagged by websense as me trying to visit a banned site. A YouTube embedded video does.
Sylvus wrote:Embedded youtube videos download a preview image from youtube.com. Every page that contains an embedded video shows up as an attempt to visit youtube.
Boog wrote:because some of us work for employers that don't like seeing things like youtube videos running on their network. Links don't show up on the radar unless clicked.
Boog wrote:YouTube IS blocked. Sites with multiple attempts to pull images/video from YouTube are just waiting to get blocked.
You want them to cite sources or something? Looking for a notarized letter from their bosses?

Alright... as it stands, embedded youtube is a no-no. can we find some sort of acceptable middle ground? If the ability exists to block Flash embeds, and since phpBB3 is now gold, can we write a custom add-on to allow blocking embedded youtube? Or can we take the path of NWS for threads and have EYT for embedded youtube?

I'd love to get involved in phpBB mods.

I like the EYT tag..but I only see it working if somehow it prevents embedding from not EYT threads. We could go on the honor system, like with NSFW, but people have posted NSFW stuff in non NSFW thread/forums.

How about just continue posting as links. Or is that too radical a solution?

Razors make my face hurt and turn it red for like 3 days, I wonder if using a rock would make it better.

That would help as I did at least search around to try and find if any site had experienced a problem with embedded YouTube videos and found none (there may be some but I couldn't find anything on it. I'm still looking occasionally)

I'll talk to the IT guys here and see if they know.

It would be nice to at least have a single citation on all of the internet, of an employee having run into trouble at work due to embedded YouTube videos (not directly accessing the YouTube site itself). I see a lot of ways on how to get around websense blocking YouTube though.

I admit I don't know for sure, but you wannabe lawyers don't have anything solid to back your "well what I'm getting out of this is" speculation.

My workplace has banned one site that I know of for content linked off of another site which was already banned. It was my WoW guild's site. Even though they made an effort to keep all mention of the game itself out of any part of the site other than the forums, they posted some of the thottbot tools that referred to information stored on the thottbot site/servers. When I asked why the forum was banned, it was because the site was trying to pull too much traffic through the Thottbot server which was banned as a gaming site.

Noel's post was a potentially fun idea for a thread, and it's been shit-canned by Winnow's retarded "it's not a problem for me, fuck everyone else" shit. Any chance an op can split the bullshit into a separate thread?

Us "wannabe" lawyers are probably not finding any "solid" backing because Booghaz has stated that it would get VV banned from his work (and that statement eliminated all reason to look if it was possible). You might not find anything on google, but I doubt the particular policies of Booghaz's company involving proper use of computing, along with the standards for what gets sites banned on their network are online and very high in google search results. Also, has Booghaz ever specifically said his company uses Websense? I see Sylvus backing up Booghaz in regards to Websense, but Booghaz has never said this is what his company uses.

I am not a lawyer. I hold no allusions that I think like a lawyer or even know a great deal about how legal research/reasoning works. What I did was summarize the reasons why Booghaz did not wanted embedded videos, which you ignored in your second attempt to get embedded videos on this site. Due to this reason, I called you a selfish prick, and I stand by that statement (obviously with regard to just this issue). Oh, I also said I had my dick in your mouth, and I stand by that statement too.
