Most Fun Raid/Clearing
Most Fun Raid/Clearing
Here's one for the bored at work. Which EQ raid did you have the most fun on? From the initial clearing to the end mob of the zone?
Some zones were more satisfying than others. Clearing PoTime for the first, and next several times, was satisfying and mostly fun. Clearing PoG was more of a chore for example. SSRA seemed like an accomplishment but not really fun except for the Emperor Fight.
Some candidates: (plenty more I'm forgetting)
Trak raid (quick and fun)
ToV dragon clearing (probably my favorite)
Plane of Fear (fun the first 100 times and lots of memories there good and bad!)
Early days going through Lower Guk killing the named
Naggy Raid
Plane of Sky (marathon)
Vox Raid
Plane of Hate (shaman armor! ...lots of memories of wipes to those damn spite golems! Hate had lots of memorable mobs as well)
Just throwing a few out there. As a guild raid, I tend to remember ToV as one of the more fun/satisfying raids. Nothing like a dragon clearing!
I don't know if it's fair, but I remember the older zone raids as being more fun than the more recent expansions in general. What stands out as the one raid you were always fired up to go on?

People who liked VT are sick in the head.
Early Fear and Hate were the best for sphincter-clenching adrenalin.
I used to enjoy Trak cos I'd try and set speed records from zone-in to Trak prep. I think the best we did was 19 mins.
ToV was great too. There's just something great about fighting dragons. Way better than any grey-brown freaky moon shit with too much AC and millions of HP.
But I have fond memories of almost all the raids. AOEing to Chardok royals, ST, 3-day Sky runs, pre-Kunark 6-man Efreet with no cleric, the list is long

Chardok and The Hole were my all time favorite zones for either raiding or just farting around. Trak was fun too.
The end game zone from Kunark was probably the coolest one I saw, can't remember the name offhand. I was only able to go a few times, too bad.
*Edit - Veeshans peak, couldn't remember it. Very cool place.

I'd have to say my 'never got boring' was ToV - but that's just cause I was pulling. It would have been boring as hell sitting waiting for pulls though.
Never liked Vox/Nag for some reason. Trak was ok just cause I didn't really get down to juggs and that area of Sebilis unless I was there for a raid.
Sky was interesting just because it was so tedious.. by the time you got to the death touches, it started getting funny with the things people would say just before eating a DT. "/shout Who's your daddy bitch?" "DT mob says, "SIJI!" LOADING, PLEASE WAIT... Was funny at the time.
Chardok royals was fun. Hate was probably my favorite. Fear was boring after you zoned in. Waiting for the waves to be called in one at a time outside was kind of exciting though.

Anyone who enjoyed VT is sick in the freaking head.
That was the biggest hell hole of a zone SoE ever invented.
Lets take mobs with 6 billion hps and a metric asston of AC so attacks only do 2 damage. Then make them pull 8-12 at a time. Oh and even better lets have them split on death so you have to kill them twice.
Freaking retarded

I agree. The most fun I had was in VT.
The most vivid memory I have is Pravus all going into troll or ogre form to block us from moving through the doorways (FU Triaf). At the time, I was furious, though now I can look back and laugh.
Another one of my fondest memories happened in Ssra. One of our app clerics "accidentally" trained the shit out of Pravus in the Emp room. Good Times.
Sometimes I miss the highly contested spawned mobs. The racing, the turbo buffing, quick engaging.

I had tons of fun DA training behind a couple of bards from named to named in VT (Effie was always my favorite for this). It was a fun bit of work to get a mage dragged to me to set up CoH since we didn't have an army of CoH bots like other guilds had. Without being able to do that, clears to each named sucked much ass after the novelty of the first clearing was gone.
The zone was always crazy when PD, Fiends and FS (even PE towards the end) all showed up wanting the same mobs. Instancing is nice now, but a part of me really misses the competition for content like that.

I enjoyed VT. Bard training then Necro rez to CoH people...it was fun fun..but mobs had too many HP...grrr.
I also enjoyed Emp...
Hate before the revamp was awesome!
Chardok Royals was fun too.
In PoP I really liked getting the boss mobs down....Rathe was fun for me.
Damn..this makes me reminisce...and I still have my Station pass thing..I should reinstall and log on for old time's sake. My Time gear is probably gimpy now

Ssra, ToV, VP, and ST were just cool. Trak was fun too. I liked pretty much all of the Luclin and Velious content.
Sky was neat, I never actually finished a whole raid there though. It was a neat idea though, and fun to mess around in.
Royals were cool, Chardok was a really great zone. I don't know how long I sat down there to get my halfling mask. Trak raids were fun too, before the whole /raid system whoever was in the KS group got mad xp clearing the juggs.
In Velious, ToV and ST were fun. I remember the secret late night raids trying to get everyone ST keys. I was so excited when I got to actually go there. Kael / AoW was cool too, that was such a tense fight. I hated Dain raids tho.
I liked pretty much everything in Luclin. Ssra, Akheva, The Deep, even VT, even though it was tedious. THO was a bitch, and not worth the loot =/ I remember zoning into Grieg's End for the first time exploring, that was so freaky and cool. The raids there were okay. I even liked getting the VT shards. I had a ton of fun with that.
PoP raids were okay, except for the ones in CoD. And Torment I think it was, with Saryrn. That zone sucked ass. Time was OK I guess, it kinda felt like the bonus lvl for beating PoP.

Splitpaw.
Seriously.
I know it sounds dumb, but I started Everquest a lot later than most here, so I rose through the levels in the way that was in vogue at the time, in Kunark. After a couple of years, some RL friends of mine and I decided to "start over" and visit a lot of the places we never really went to when we started playing, so we did dungeon crawls in places like Splitpaw and Najena.
Now *those* were good times.

Someone would always accidentally click on the entrance to Mischief while on a ToV raid. Finding the tree that would zone you out was a crack up. (unless something was chasing you at the time)Boogahz wrote:My first trip to Mischief! It came after/during some ToV raiding, and we all scattered across the zone. Finished my Tunarean Signet Ring, killed everything we ran across, but never went back.
I forgot about Sleepers. That really wasn't a full guild raid though.
How about PITA zones? I'll add the first pain in the ass zone:
The icy ramps in Velk's were a pain although killing Kobolds was great XP if it wasn't camped!
NToV hands down. In those days guilds still raced for targets... none of that instanced crap... speed won the day... and when speed failed their was always steamrolling.
Kael would be second for me. For the same reasons... AoW cycle was up everyone was gunning for it.
The game started its slow death when instanced zones came out. Racing for mobs and the unwritten rules on Veeshan on how to deal with other rival guilds is what made the game. That and coming here the next day to read about who fucked who over the night before is what Veeshan and EQ were all about.

That sounds like the intro words to an EverQuest Guild Movie to rival the "Days of high adventure" intro in the original Conan movie.Kilrain wrote:In those days guilds still raced for targets... none of that instanced crap... speed won the day... and when speed failed their was always steamrolling.
Just need some epic steamrolling music to go with it!
Upon reflection, I agree 100%. I recall a lot of whining about the way mob's spawned including myself but, ultimately, that's one of the primary things that made the game fun socially, which is an important factor in long lasting MMORPGs.Kilrain wrote:The game started its slow death when instanced zones came out. If you could have the race w/o the steamrolling bullshit, then yeah, it's a great driver for people to be on.... all the time. =)Winnow wrote:Upon reflection, I agree 100%. NToV for the win, as long as you aren't one of the suckers corpse dragging.
