Wedding Crashers
Rarely do the wife and I go out of our way to see a new movie on opening weekend, maybe two a year tops but the concept of this one was so great, we both knew we had to see it.
I will say first, two things which were a bit off-putting were one, the timing of the dialogue. I say this because there were points during the movie that had the audience laughing so loud, you'd never hear potentially equally funny dialogue taking place. And two, Will Ferrell's part plain sucks. I can't stand fake, try to be over the top, nonsense that just plain isn't funny.
It's easily outweighed, however, by the two leads and, particularly Walken (big surprise), Seymour (don't recall her ever playing a raunchy role type), and all of the hotties willing to strip down so easily. Seriously, the movie was a fucking riot overall and worth the price of admission.

Re: Wedding Crashers
Really? I mean, really, you were surprised? Walken has almost a cult following for his comedic turns. His SNLs alone are some of the best skits out there. I don't know much about this movie other than it's a comedy. From what I remember of the previews he's a father of a bride or something? Can totally see him in that role.Chidoro wrote:Walken (big surprise)

yeah, this was a really good movie. it's not very often that a movie comes along with this many laughs in it. owen wilson and vince vaughn know what roles and characters people like to see them in and they play it up really well here. I was starting to think that vaughn's overdramatic obnoxious guy schtick was getting pretty fucking old, but he played it really well here. I guess a good script helps in that regard.

I concur on this tangent.kyoukan wrote:well okay, but watching nazis torture romanian gypsies to death with smoking hot fire pokers is funnier than meet the parents.
As far as the topic at hand, I am looking forward to seeing this movie. It does not look too shabby and I am glad to see some good reviews.

I think Swingers was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Mainly cause I could see so many of my friends in the different characters etc, or even myself. I think that quote just pushed me over into seeing this movie -- I pretty much can't stand going to movie theaters cause I hate the seats.Sylvus wrote:I concur, the movie was hilarious. I'd say that it's arguably Vince Vaughn's best movie, and I hold Swingers in very high regard.

Your opinion doesn't count though, Aslanna, you don't like anything.
I'm pretty sure that the target demographic is like 18-35 year old men, and I'd say that this movie should probably appeal to like 98% of them. Irish people not included.

Saw it last night with my girlfriend - it was packed on a wednesday night. We actually had to sit in the 3rd row from the screen, which was the only bad part. But we both laughed our asses off through the whole thing. I don't generally like will ferrell at all, but I liked his part in this. I forgot to watch the credits to see the girls name that owen wilson hooked up with, she was the best looking girl in the movie in my opinion.

My girlfriend told me what else she had been in. Apparently, the lead girl in the movie was the girl in the Notebook, and then she was also the lead bitch in Mean Girls. I haven't seen either of those, but I may check them out now because I agree, she was gorgeous and funny at the same time. I concur with everyone here, though, this movie had me cracking up.

Mean Girls is an ok high school movie but Lindsay Lohan plays the main character, not Rachel McAdams who plays the mean part in the movie which is not suited for her imo.Kaldaur wrote:My girlfriend told me what else she had been in. I have to lift the arm-rest up on both sides just to fit. Then i have to wrestle osme teenagers to fit my 64oz coke in their chair and my tub of popcorn on the opposing seat.Wiever wrote:Trouble fitting in em bud!?Psyloche wrote: I pretty much can't stand going to movie theaters cause I hate the seats.
But in reality, the seats make my knees hurt in quite a few theaters and make me think of riding a bus or airplane with no leg room. I think its a lot more convenient to just do other things and pick up dirt cheap DVD's from bargain bins months later. Turn around for them is so fast it just seems to make so much more sense for me to buy them that way.
Did you hear what I just said??? Stage 5, VIRGIN, clinger?!

People are complaining to the producers of the movie/site because you can print/cut out purple hearts, which the men use to get the ladies. This is apparently illegal and people are pissed about it. The site suggests using it for women and getting free drinks.

Farrel is great in a supporting role, he's very good at augmenting other actors. As a lead he's not funny except in places, and is too wooden to keep things going between those moments.Aslanna wrote:Not the only one. I didn't think it was that funny either. Same for Anchorman.Nick wrote:I must be the only person that didn't think Old School was that funny.

Despite having an immensely powerful body, I also like to use Nunchucks (or nunchaku which is their Respectful and deeply spiritual name), why? Because they KICK ASS, that’s why! No one wants to mess with a powerful, spiritual nunchuck killing machine

I thought the movie average at best. There were a lot of laughs but there were some painfully horrible dialogue moments as well. It was almost like they were trying really REALLY hard to satisfy both men and women and failing at it. My wife got up and left at about halfway through the movie (we rented). I sat through and enjoyed the whole Vince Vaugn story arc but Owen Wilson just isn't funny and he can't pull off the dramatic role either. Will Ferrel was mostly funny but he over acted in several scenes (at the end wedding).
I would give this movie 6/10 rating.
