Any interest in an RPG forum in Games?

Post by Mak »

Not sure how many of our members have any interest in RPG's, but I'd be willing to Mod it if we could add one.

Too often it seems it is the peaceful and innocent who are slaughtered. In this a lesson may be found that it may not be prudential to be either too peaceful or too innocent. One does not survive with wolves by becoming a sheep.

Mak, you might PM Ashur about it. I know he and Sylvos are avid RPG players and I think they already have some forums set up (not on this site). I think an RPG forum here would be a great idea.

What type of RPG? Paper and pencil? Japanese console RPG's? Rocket Propelled Grenades?

Right now I'm role playing like I care!

Are you talking about pen and paper RPGs? Try making one thread about them before making a forum and see how many people play/discuss various games. I'm a fan of RPGs but don't know if there's really that much talk about them.

The Newsgroups are flooded with PDFs of all the old RPGs though. If you already don't check there, it's a great place to grab old games and read through manuals, modules, etc.

Mak,

I am a fan of RPGs (some of them, I'm pretty much a beer-and-pretzel kind of RPG/board gamer, no LARPing for me, also no Rocket Propelled Grenades or anything Japanese!)

Sylvos maintains a forum devoted to them at http://www.sylvos.com/SMF/ , but it's gotten pretty stale since IRC access got shitcanned from work and we both ended up getting extremely busy anyway.

You looking for a 4e vs 3.5e discussion, or just RPGs in general?

P&P online!

http://www.fantasygrounds.com/

stolen from the 'other' place ashur goes - muaha, etc.

But yeah - again, a little more defintion about what you want.

RPG's as a genre (basically anything from MMO's to larping)?
P&P (D&D, etc)?
A faux RPG game (like when we used to have legend of the green dragon?)
Pyrella - Illusionist - Leader of Ixtlan on Antonia Bayle

if you were walking around and you came upon a tulip with tits, would you let it be for the rest of the world to enjoy.. or would you pick it and carry it off to a secluded area to motorboat them?

As Winnow said, there is a hell of a lot of PnP RPG stuff on the DC++ comic sites. I generally only connect to two of them, but there's just boatloads of RPG stuff for the downloading.

If I felt like I had the time I'd try out some PnP stuff, but I barely have time for the little gaming I do anymore.

Those less popular games were always some of the most interesting ones, I thought.

I agree. Those are the biggest reason to browse the newsgroup.

Someone posted the complete DragonQuest set just a few days ago which is what I played the most. I find it funny seeing the game in pdf because of all the trouble we went through back then to get more copies of a discontinued game. We actually mailed SPI and asked for permission to copy the book which was last published in 1982. (not that many years earlier back then) SPI gave us permission and the local college copy center then ripped off the spine and made an extra copy. While it isn't the most obscure RPG, it certainly wasn't D&D type popular. (a clone!)

Image

I'm emailing the pdf to my old RPG friends so they can check it out for old times sake.

Check out the character sheet. I guess they didnt' believe in the metric system for money!

Image

4cp = 1sp, 12sp = 1GS. 21 GS = 1 TG ...so 1,008 Copper Earthlings = 1 Truesilver Guineas!

wha? RPGers have always been better at math!

Thanks for the feedback, guys!

I was thinking the ol' pen and paper stuff, specifically, the new 4th Ed. of D&D that just came out, as well as things like Mutants & Masterminds and the new Game of Thrones RPG when that comes out.

And yeah, DC++ is a great resource for this stuff as well as comics- thanks again, Winnow. I also use the NG's- again, thanks Winnow re: Newsleecher SuperSearch!

I'd just like to have some discussions with folks I know about some of this stuff, but didn't want to clutter up General or get anyone's undies in a bunch by posting in one of the other Game forums.

I'll make a post in General to see if there's any interest.

Ok, doesn't appear to be much interest. Oh well! Thanks for the links, everyone.
