Thinking of getting one but games currently out dont really do much for me. The upside is, and Winnow if you read this gimme some info, the DVD firmware is hackable to allow you to play "borrowed" games. Has anyone used the methods and if so, how well do they work.
Also how good is it to use as a media center, if its even possible. Can it do divx, avi, wmv etc..?

If you have a Toshiba-Samsung drive, you can hack away and play copied games. If you have a Hitachi drive, you're out of luck atm.
Here's all you need to know about the firmware hacks and to tell what DVD drive you have:

If you don't have your 360 yet, there's a good chance you won't get the Toshiba-Samsung drive. Also, for those that got their 360's early, they have the removable chip. Microsoft is now using epoxy on the hackable chip which will make it a bitch for people buying new 360's to hack their DVDs.

The firmware hacks aren't easy so even if you ahve a Samsung-Toshiba drive, be sure to read up on it beforehand.
As it stands though, you can use hacked games on X-Box Live. I'm sure that will change in the future.
As for the media portion of the 360, it won't be that great unless the 360 gets fully hacked so people can make an XBMC type app for it. The current official Media center can only play limited types of media making it pretty lame.
